So yah. Sorry for not posting it in a while.
The heart monitor was beeping at a normal pace as Steve woke up. He looked to find himself strapped to a hospital bed. His mind was still fuzzy, but he was able to understand what must have happened. I was exposed long enough to the carbon monoxide that I started to hallucinate and feel dizzy. Then I gave Garnet to....Garnet! Where is she? I hope she's alright...I hope I'm alright. Suddenly, the door opened and an African-American doctor came in. He chuckled and said, "So this is the illustrious Steven Hudson! You're quite a hero." Steve looked at him with a puzzled look on his face. The doctor said, "You saved Garnet's life." Steve tried to sit up, "She's alright? Where is she?" The doctor nodded and pointed to his left. He turned and saw Garnet lying in another hospital bed. She looked very peaceful. Steve sighed with relief and rested his head on his pillow. He asked, "What's with these straps?" The doctor quickly unbuckled them and said, "You were hallucinating violently. We had to strap you down to keep you and others safe." He looked over at Garnet again, "Nothing is wrong with her?" The doctor said, "She is doing surprisingly well," he paused, "But you might have a problem." His blood froze. "What? Why?" The doctor frowned, "We don't really know. You might have gone into an area that had more gas than the others or something. We thought she'd be a goner, but it turns out you're the one who's poisoned." His spirits were dampened, "What's wrong with me?" The doctor thought about it then answered, "From what we've seen....you'll probably be more moody or depressed than usual. Nothing too serious." He lifted his eyebrows, "Moody?" He heard Garnet moan. He turned to her. She was moving her head around. Her maroon eyes slowly opened. She asked, "What happened?" The doctor said, "You're at the hospital." "The last thing I remember was being on the floor and Steve was calling my name." She looked over at Steve and her eyes brightened. He smiled and sat up in the bed. He grunted when a shot a pain hit his chest. The doctor patted his shoulder, "Whoa, there. You took a nasty fall when you passed out." Steve stretched and said, "Apparently." The doctor smiled at Garnet, "Do you realize what happened? Steve went in after you when he found out that you were still inside the building. He saved your life." When Steve realized what he was going to say, he blushed and shifted uneasily. The doctor went on, "You would have either died or your body would have been severely damaged. But here you are, as fit as a fiddle." Steve cleared his throat. The doctor smiled at him and winked. Steve glared at him. He looked over at Garnet. Her eyes were tearful and she smiled at him. He looked at the doctor; who was smiling as Garnet got out of bed and gave Steve a big hug. "I'll give you two some time."
When Garnet was done, she sat right next to Steve. She asked, "Steve, could you tell me what happened?" He nodded and said, "The police wanted me to ask the terrorist, who's been visiting me, to meet somewhere other than my apartment. So they put a wire on me and hid cameras all over the room." he sighed, "Somehow she must have found out that the police were near and put carbon monoxide in the air conditioning. Her and I fought for a while until the police came." He touched his wounded arm. She lifted his sleeve saw a bloody bandage on his upper arm. Her eyes widened, "What did she do to you?" He sighed and said, "She stabbed my arm." Her hands came up to cover her mouth. A tear dropped to the floor. He put his arm around her shoulder and chuckled, "You're more sad about it than I am." She laughed. He continued, "She saw the policemen coming and ran through the balcony door and landed in the street. By the way, have you heard anything about that?" She shook her head. He sighed, "Then, like, ten minutes later we heard a carbon monoxide alarm and got everyone out of the building. Well, except you." he paused, "I didn't see you anywhere and I got worried. So I called your cell. You answered and said you were in your room. You started to freak out and said that there were people with you that were trying to hurt you. You were probably hallucinating. When I heard that I ran in to get you. But when I got there you were on the floor, so I picked you up and took you outside. Last, I started to see things and passed out." She groaned and looked at the clock. "I wonder how long we've been out." He looked at the clock and said, "A good eight hours I'd say." Steve stood up and said, "Where can a guy get a drink around here?" He searched the room and found a water cooler, "Do you want some water?" She nodded. He grabbed some cups and filled them with water. He handed her her drink. Garnet watched him take a large sip of his water. He coughed and dropped his cup, "Ugh! This water tastes like crap!" She snickered. He swore under his breath as he found that his shirt was soaked. Steve grabbed a towel from a cart in the corner of the room and tried to dry himself off. "Great. Now I smell like crap." She forced a smile. Steve swore again as he laid down on one of the beds. "Why don't they have any darn water anywhere?" he said angrily. Garnet looked at him with a weird look on her face. "What?" She answered, "Don't you think you're getting overly angry over a cup of water?" He scowled, then his eyes turned soft again. Steve massaged his forehead, "Wow. I'm sorry. Looks like the gas is already taking it's toll." She looked worried, "What do you mean?" He chuckled softly, "It's nothing serious," she still looked worried, "The doctor said I might be depressed or moody at times." Garnet sighed, "You saved my life. You shouldn't be the one to be punished for my stupidity." She quickly walked out of the room. Steve chased after her. When he caught up with her he said, "Stupidity? Nobody would have noticed that there was carbon monoxide in the building. It's odorless and invisible." Garnet kept walking. "Garnet!" She stopped and said, "Listen, Steve, I'm sorry but I have to get home." She left. Steve stood in the hallway. He grabbed all his things and left shortly after she did. When he got home he dropped his stuff and went straight to bed.
Garnet knocked on Steve's door. This was at least the fifth time. It was two hours past noon and she had not seen Steve around at all. Garnet groaned and opened the door. The room was pitch black. She couldn't see a thing. She reached out and tried to feel for the wall. A shoe made her trip and she came tumbling to the ground. Her eyes adjusted and she could make out the hallway. When she entered the living room, she saw that all the curtains were covered with thick black blankets. "Steve? What's going on?" Garnet made her way over to the couch and saw a dark figure lying on the couch. She reached for it, but felt hair. Steve sighed and said, "Why are you here?" Garnet's hand made it's way to his shoulder and she sat down next to him, "I was worried. You haven't come out of your room all day." He huffed and pushed her hand away. "Garnet. Do you believe there is a God?" She answered, "I know some people do, but I really don't know for myself." He chuckled, "I don't. If there ever was, he must have been a cruel God to make someone like me....just so I could suffer like this. If there ever was a kind God, he must have left." Garnet got up, felt for a lamp, and switched it on. Steve looked as gloomy as ever. She walked up to him and slapped his face. "Wake up! What's gotten into you? You're talking like you have nothing in the world and no hope!" He clutched his face and said sadly, "I needed that." She huffed, "You sure as heck needed it. Now get up and get dressed....we're going out. Come on, Shaggy!" He moaned and closed his eyes. Garnet ripped off the sheets and white light came streaming throughout the room. Steve's eyes burned. He swore and said, "Aww, come on Garnet!" She came over and was about to slap him again, when he shouted, "Alright, alright! I'm going!" When he had gone to get dressed, Garnet snickered to herself in triumph.
Steve locked the door to his apartment and followed Garnet down to her car. It was a normal-looking car that was a purple-gray color. "I expected your car to be red," said Steve. She opened the door and started the car. Once they were in, Steve rubbed his face and said, "You could have just talked me out of it instead of slapping me." She smiled and answered, "Real friends slap each other to normal." He huffed and asked where they were going. Garnet started to drive away. Suddenly, the car boomed extremely loud heavy metal/screamo played on the stereo. Garnet turned it off quickly and looked over at Steve; he was wide-eyed and had his hands over his ears. She chuckled and said, "I'm going to run a few errands and then we'll go home." He nodded.
About ten minutes later, they reached a plaza. Garnet parked and got out. Steve got out and asked, "But where are we going?" They ran across the street and she said, "We're going to the Game Stop!" He raised an eyebrow as they entered a store crammed full of video games and game consoles. Garnet ran over to the PlayStation 2 section, grabbed an arm-full of games, and went to the counter. The cashier looked shocked at all the games she got, but did his job. She bagged the games and left. Steve gawked at the size of the bag filled with games she had. She caught him staring and said cheerfully, "Today's game night! Well, for me at least." Garnet dropped the bag in her car and ran over to another store. This time, it was filled with books. Garnet and Steve walked to the back of the store. The back wall was covered in comic books. Garnet smiled and searched for her favorites. She picked about six different books out, then bought them. They walked to the car and drove away. Steve asked, "Are we going home now?" She said, "Not yet. There's one more thing we need to do." She drove down the road until she turned into Culver's drive-through. Garnet stopped at the menu and asked Steve, "What do you want? Do you want anything?" He hesitated; then said, "A blueberry shake sounds good." She nodded and gave them their order. When they drove to the window Steve took out his wallet. Garnet stopped him and said, "That's not necessary. Let's just say this is a thank-you for rescuing me. It's the least I could do."
A few minutes later Garnet's car parked in the street next to the apartment building. Steve helped her with the bags. Garnet opened the door to her apartment and set the bag of games by her TV. The TV was surprisingly large and had a couple game systems in front of it along with a comfy-looking couch. She took the bag of books from Steve and spilled it out on her kitchen table. She took one of the books and asked, "Are you into video games or books, Steve?" He sat down at the table and grabbed a book, "When I was a kid. Not so much anymore, though." She chuckled, "I'm a bit of a comic book geek." Steve observed the book in his hand, "Death Note?" She gasped and tore it from his hands, "My favorite!" He chuckled and said, "You're a bit of a game geek too?" She smiled and said, "Yup. Want to play me?" "I don't play many games. The only one I'm somewhat good at is Halo." Garnet ran over to her huge stack of games and pulled out Halo. Steve smiled, "Alright, then. Prepare to be creamed."
Garnet shouted, "Yes! 21 to 0!" Steve was slumped over on the couch. He had lost every game against Garnet. Steve dropped his controller, "Alright. I'm starting to get a headache." She laughed and turned off the TV. Steve sunk into the couch, "This is a nice couch." She laid next to him and said, "It's specifically for gamers. Especially frustrated ones like you." He moaned and closed his eyes, "Now you know why I don't play often." "Steve," she paused and looked at him, "how old are you?" He reached for his shake, "Thirty-one. Why, how old are you?" Garnet hesitated, but said, "I'm turning twenty in a month." Steve choked on his shake and sat up. He coughed for a minute, then asked, "You're that young?" she nodded, "Wow. You seem older than that." Steve got up and grabbed his shake. Garnet said, "Are you leaving, then?" Steve yawned, "I'm just kind of tired. I need a good nap." Garnet stood up, "Well if you really liked my couch, you're welcome to use it anytime." "Thanks, but I think I'll pass this time." He opened the door and said, "I'll see you later." As she watched him walk up the stairs, her eyes darkened, she walked to her room, and closed the door.
Steve sat on his couch and thought, I should have taken that offer with the couch. He heard something; he turned. Nothing was there. Suddenly, two cold hands came from behind and gripped his shoulders. The hands loosened their grip. Then they tightened. It was like a massage. Steve looked in the reflection of the TV screen and saw the terrorist. He didn't even bother to struggle, because he knew it wouldn't help. "My guess is you got away. I thought so," he paused, "Were you trying to kill me?" She asked, "What do you think I was trying to do?" He thought about it and answered, "You realized I was working with the police. So you put carbon monoxide in the vents to teach me what happens when I work against you." She moaned and said, "Good." Her massage intensified. Though he didn't want to admit it, the massage felt good on his shoulders. As if she could read his thoughts, she sneered and moved down to his back. Steve shivered, "Why are you here?" Her serpentine voice in his ear gave him goosebumps, "Can't old friends visit from time-to-time?" He remembered what she said the other night, "What did you mean by saying I've made you feel pain?" He heard her growl and her hands squeezed his shoulders painfully. He grimaced. "It was a long time ago, Hudson. What you did was bad enough for one to hold a grudge. We were both different then." She released his shoulders and sat across from him. The sight of her shocked Steve. When she walked over, he smelled a strange perfume. She had a fluttery red dress on that ended just above the knees. There was a strange smokiness around her eyes, which made her look mysterious and her eye-color pop. He noticed she was barefoot, "Were you here the whole time?" She smirked and said, "Actually, I've been here for hours. I hope you don't mind I used your bed and shower." He ground his teeth and stood up. Steve yanked her onto her feet. She smiled mischevously. He dragged her to the door and opened it. He threw her out and slammed it angrily. The terrorist looked and saw a lone policeman standing behind her. The officer gulped. She ignored him and strutted down the stairs. He watched her, but then knocked on Steve's door. He opened it, shouting, "Why won't you leave me -- Oh. Sorry, I thought you were someone else." Steve welcomed him in and closed the door. The officer chuckled and asked, "Dang, Steve, who was that hottie that just left?" Steve ignored him and thought, If only he knew who he was talking about. He sat down at the table and asked, "So what can I do for you....uh...." "Rob." Steve continued, "Rob." Rob sat at the table and said, "I just came to check on you." Steve nodded slowly. There was an awkward silence until Rob said, "So have there been anymore visits?" Steve asked, "You didn't recognize her? You know....the hottie?" The officer turned pale, "That was her? Whoa, I didn't know she was so...." Steve raised an eyebrow. Rob cleared his throat and asked, "So, what was she doing here?" Steve sat up in his chair and said, "I don't know, but she gave me a really good massage." The policeman asked, "Isn't she your enemy? Why would you let her hands all over you? And why would she up and give you a massage?" Steve was tired of all the awkward questions, "I don't know!" He groaned, "My life is all entropy right now." The officer exclaimed, "Oh, right! I forgot about the gas." He got up and said, "I think I'll leave you be, then." Steve got up when he heard the door close. He opened his fridge and pulled out the pot of Spanish Rice. He heated himself up a bowl and ate at the kitchen table.
The fresh smell of the shower filled Steve's bathroom as he turned it on. He smelled an unfamiliar scent in the shower. It smells good! Like cherries. Wait....that's the girl's perfume or.... He spotted a dark red bottle on one of the shelves in the shower. It must be hers. What should I do with it? Steve pondered this, then he grabbed the bottle and set it on his dresser. He looked at the label. Cherry Wine? Hmm. Steve shook his head and got in the shower. The warm water felt good on his face and comforted him.
Steve dried his hair with a towel and walked into his bedroom. He opened his closet and observed his wardrobe. It mainly consisted of shirts; both old and new; dressy and laid-back. He picked out his outfit and glanced in the mirror. Suddenly, the thought that he meant to work out popped into his mind. He quickly changed his outfit and headed out the door. When he was about to leave, he remembered how far away the gym was. He thought that it would be too far for him to run and then work out; he would be exhausted. So he ran down to Garnet's room and asked if he could borrow her car. She thought about it, but ended up saying he could. He got in her car and drove to the gym. When he got there it was empty except for a few people. Steve didn't know what to start with, but eventually got in the hang of it.
Weeks passed by. Steve made an effort to work out four to five times a week in the mornings. Garnet and him hung out at least twice a week. He started getting nervous, because in those weeks the terrorist didn't come once. He knew he should be enjoying it, but he couldn't help having a bad feeling about it. Three weeks passed, and Steve's mornings in the gym were starting to show.
