Sora gazed up at the clear blue sky. He raised a hand to brush the hair out of his bright eyes, and whilst doing so, accidentally brushed the hand of the girl standing beside him. They both chuckled, and Sora looked at his friend, drinking her in. He had had to be apart from her for so long, and now he was scared that if he didn’t pay enough attention to her, she would fade away on the gentle breeze that cooled the pair on that warm day. She was pretty, with green eyes that sparkled all the time and pink hair that reached just past her shoulders. She was always smiling, which was something Sora loved about her, and as he took in all her features, he realised she was smiling at him radiantly, with a slight look of puzzlement etched lightly into her face.
“Oh, uh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stare, it’s just…” Sora trailed off, realising he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to say next. The girl next to him nodded. “I know, Sora. I can’t help looking at you all the time too; just to make sure you’re still here, with me. I can’t stop thinking about how terrible it would be if we got separated too.” Her eyes took on an element of sadness as she spoke. Sora took her pale hands in his. “It’s okay, Kairi. I promise to never leave you again. I couldn’t bear to.”
A boy with silver hair ran up behind them. The echoing sounds his footsteps made on the pavement surprised Sora and Kairi, and they sprang apart. “Oh, Riku, it’s just you!” Kairi laughed. Riku was confused. “Well, yeah. Who else could I be?” He smiled, and held out two blue ice lollies. Another was tightly gripped in his other hand. “Yay!” Kairi grinned. “It’s my first ever sea salt ice cream!” Sora and Kairi took their ice creams, and the three of them lapsed into silence as they stood licking their ice creams in the warmth of the sun.
Riku was the first to finish, and chewed on his now empty stick. “That was better than I expected,” he said thoughtfully. The other two nodded their agreement, and all was quiet again until they had finished their ice cream. “Well that was really good…” Sora licked his lips. “Let’s go get another one!” he shouted, a little louder than he had intended to.” Kairi shook her head. “Can we get one later? I wanna go see Hayner, Pence and Olette now. Please can we?” Riku and Sora looked at each other, then back at Kairi, and nodded. Kairi smiled again, and taking both of their hands, led them down the back alley that led to the gang’s hideout.
In the Usual Spot, Kairi, Riku and Sora looked around. Nothing had changed since Kairi had visited, and Sora could feel it in his heart. But the Usual Spot was empty. There was no sign of Hayner, Pence or Olette. So the three friends sat on a sofa to wait for them to turn up, as they knew they would eventually. Riku was still checking out the room. “So this was Roxas’s favourite place to hang out with his mates, right Sora?” Sora looked up and nodded at him. “Right.” Riku went on, “And then you hung out with Roxas’s friends here when you got chased around by the Organization, yeah?” Kairi nodded, too.
A commotion at the door made Sora, Kairi and Riku look up in perfect sync with each other, and in strode a boy, aged about fifteen, with blonde hair. He was closely followed by a girl with dark plaits and another boy with brown hair. They noticed the three people sat on their sofa, and stopped suddenly. Then Olette stepped forward. “Kairi! We thought we would never see you again!” Kairi stood up, and walked into the other girl’s hug. Hayner was looking over Riku and Sora, who were looking back with just as much interest. Kairi turned to them, and quickly said, “Oh yeah, guys, these are Riku and Sora – the ones I told you about. And,” she looked at Riku at Sora now, “these are Hayner, Pence, and Olette,” she finished, indicating each one as she said their name.
The six teenagers started talking, about all sorts of random things, and the time passed quickly. When Hayner got up to look out of the window, though, he let out a shocked sound. When everyone turned to stare at him, bewildered, he explained. “It’s getting dark already!” he half shouted. “I promised my mum I would be early getting back today. Aw, crud. I gotta run guys. But it was great meeting you two, and it was good to see you again, Kairi.” He said all this very quickly, and then dashed out of the cloth hanging that served as a door to the den. Following this, Olette and Pence exchanged nervous glances. “Sorry guys, but I guess we’ve gotta get back home, too. Drop by again as soon as you can, okay?” Olette said, her sadness at having to leave portrayed clearly in her eyes. The five said their goodbyes, and Pence and Olette left, too.
Kairi turned to Sora and Riku. “So, what did you think?” she asked. “They were cool,” Riku said easily. “Yup,” Sora said, “but now can we get some more ice cream?” Kairi rolled her eyes at him, and they got up and went to buy some more sea salt ice cream. As they left, Sora turned to his friends and suggested that they went somewhere. “I know just the place we should go to eat these,” he said. “Sure, let’s go,” Riku said. “You’re serious all of a sudden, Sora.” Sora didn’t answer, but instead started walking away. Riku and Kairi hastened to follow him.
Sitting on the top of the clock tower, Kairi turned to Sora and said, “This was a really good idea.” Sora nodded, and licked his ice cream thoughtfully. “I just thought it would be a shame if we didn’t come up here at least once. Plus, I thought maybe then we could see Roxas and Namine, but I guess not…” Kairi nodded. Riku was looking at something, and tapped Sora lightly on the shoulder. “Hmm?” Sora looked round, his ice cream dangling out of his mouth. There, sitting next to Riku, were two translucent figures; Roxas and Namine. They smiled at the three friends, and their fingers were interlocked.
The five kids just sat there, together on the top of the clock tower that overlooked the whole of Twilight Town. They didn’t say anything; they didn’t need to – the silence they shared was comfortable. Besides, they were all thinking the same thing:
Sometimes it’s nice to just take a step back.
So, this is my Character Thinkings for FF X-2. Even though I wrote about Yuna in the FF X Character Thinkings, she changes a lot before the sequel, so she's in here, as well.
Yuna:- Okay, now her hair is pretty good. Better than before, for sure. But she so doesn't look 19 to me! Am I the only one who thinks that every teenager in the Final Fantasy series looks older than they are supposed to be? But her guns when she wears the Gunner dressphere are unbelievably big, and so cool. Plus, I love her really long plait-braid thing. But dyou reckon she leaves it on when she goes to bed? Is that a really strange thing to think about?
Rikku:- Okay, I covered her in FF X too, but again, she's changed a lot. Her new outfit is cooler than before, as are her wicked random braids. Plus, she's even more cheerful and optimistic this time, if a little more dim?
Paine:- Awesome red eyes, right? And her sword is huge! But I have a reaallllly haard time believing she's only 18. Am I alone here? Her voice can get a little grating, but she is a pretty cool person.
The other pretty prominant characters are:
Gippal:- I think he must be the one Al Bhed I wasn't that keen on?
Nooj:- Uh. I hate him, miserable old man, right!
Baralai:- He was kinda cute, but his voice puts me off
Brother:- Ahaha. He is the butt of every joke in this game. Good on him.
Shinra:- He's menna be about 12, right? I like the steam that comes out when he breathes.
Buddy:- He's kinda a nothingy character, I guess. But he's cool.
Okay, so here's the thoughts about the characters in FF10.
Tidus:- At the very beginning of the game, Tidus is supposedly an amazing Blitzball player, so it should come as no surprise that he is classically arrogant. But at least he gets over himself as the game progresses - not that he really has a choice, seeing as nobody knows who he is later on. And I love his necklace!
Yuna:- She has really annoying hair in this game, right? It's not just me who thinks that, yeah? It does get a lot cooler in time for X-2, but still. It should never have been this bad in the first place. But I do truly love the floaty fade effect sleeves. Cool or what? Haha. Her eyes are pretty cool, too. So cool that when this game first came out, I wanted one blue eye and one green eye, too. I was cool.
Wakka:- Annoying voice, annoying stubbly bit. Now that's out of the way, Wakka is a pretty decent character. He's friendly and loyal and has a big heart - even if he does kinda suck at Bitzball. But at least he doesn't wear socks with his sandals, am I right?
Lulu:- Gothic Lolita for old people XD. Her style is cool, and she's another one with cool coloured eyes. Plus, I love all her little mages! The Moogle one!! Cute! But I do think she should have been allowed to have a chocobo one, too. That would have been too cool.
Kimahri:- Alright, the Ronso are cool, but Kimahri lost his horn!! He doesn't get to be quite so cool anymore! But I like how the 'dark and mysterious' character in this isn't even a human. I found it quite funny.
Auron:- Wicked sword. I personally am not a huge fan of Auron. He is seriously too...moody all the time. Is that the right word, dyou think? But anyway, it is pretty cool when he goes near the Farplane and all the pyreflies swarm around. Aww...
Rikku:- Okay, I love all the Al Bhed, but Rikku is just awesome! She's always happy and even though she's so young, she is way mature and knows just what to say and when to say nothing at all. Plus, the Al Bhed eye spirals are awesome. This game is filled with people who have awesome eyes!!!
When it comes to summoning, they pretty much replaced all the old aeons. As expected. But they did keep the classics; Ifrit and Shiva. Good. So, the total list of Aeons reads:
Valefor
Ifrit
Ixion
Shiva
Bahamut
Yojimbo
Anima
The Magus Sisters (Cindy, Minday & Sandy)
Light looked up from the notes he was taking and glanced over at Takada, whose head was buried in her notebook, her pen scratching away quickly. Thinking about it, Light supposed that they never really acted as a couple; they didn’t hold hands or hug each other, and they hadn’t been on a date ever. They only ever hung out on campus during school time. Considering it, Light thought it must be suspicious to anyone who talked about their relationship – and many people did, seeing as she was Miss To-Oh, and he was one of the guys who got a perfect score on their entrance exams. He and Takada were together plenty, that was for sure, but it was only that they were together.
Light tore a scrap of paper out of his college notebook and scribbled down a quick note. ‘If you’re not doing anything on Sunday, would you like to come to the art gallery around the corner with me? You can come over to my house for dinner afterwards, too, if you’d like.’ He folded the note and printed Takada’s name on it, before thrusting the note across the table at her. She seemed to snap out of a daze, and she blinked heavily a few times before unfolding the note. Her eyes skittered across the page, blurring as she read, and then she looked up at Light with the penetrating look that charmed most of the men at the college. She nodded quickly, and turned back to her notes. Light breathed a sigh of relief; their relationship was about to look normal to outsiders.
Then Light realised something; he would have to tell Misa he was going on a date with another woman. She was not going to be happy. Also, wouldn’t one date lead to another…and another…? He hadn’t thought this through; it was so unlike him. But he would think it through later. Right now, he should be paying attention in his class. Instead, he focused on the intricate doodle on the back page of his notebook. It looked vaguely like Ryuk, actually. Weird.
“But Light-kun! I want you to spend all of Sunday with me! I booked a day off work and everything, so we could spend loads of time doing couple stuff! I thought maybe we could watch a film, or something…else. Something more fun.” Light looked up from the book he was reading, and snapped it shut with a sigh. He waited until he had placed it on the table next to his bed, carefully laying it at a perfect right angle, and opened his mouth to speak, arranging his words as carefully as his room. “Misa, you know why I’m doing this. I have to throw suspicion off of you and I. If anyone suspected that we were together, L would investigate and then we wouldn’t be able to be together! Especially not if L manages to find something out because of us, and he discovers that you or me have the Death Note – he’ll kill us. I couldn’t let that happen to you.” He paused here, portraying the right emotions perfectly, and took her hands gently.
Light stood up, still gripping Misa’s hands, and whispered in her ear. “I love you, Misa. I am prepared to do everything I can for us to be together, and if one date with a girl I don’t like will help, then I’ll do it. For you and me, Misa. I’ll do it…for us.” And with that, he leant in and kissed her on the lips, a more passionate kiss than either of them had ever shared with anyone before. When Light pulled away, Misa’s eyes remained closed as she breathed heavily, swaying slightly. When her eyelids eventually fluttered open, her eyes had a far off gaze in them, and the lights made them sparkle like stars. “Okay,” she whispered, but Light was absorbed in his book again – he knew she would agree after that.
That Sunday, Light dressed carefully and left the house, managing to avoid his mother and Sayu; his father had stayed overnight to work on the Kira case, as per usual these days. He would come home sometime, if only for the whiskey stashed in his writing desk. Light arrived at the bus station five minutes early, and scanned the crowd expertly for Takada. When he spotted her silky hair amongst the other people, he threaded his way through the large swarm of strangers until he was standing next to her. To attract her attention, he put his hand on her shoulder. She turned around, shocked, but relaxed when she recognized Light. “Hi,” she breathed. He took her by the hand and led her onto their bus, where they sat near the back in a double seater.
Light finally looked at Takada properly. Her hair had been curled, and hung loosely around her face. The darkness of her ringlets contrasted brilliantly with her pale face, and her green eyes stood out, electric and yet calming at the same time. She wore a lacy top with a short, fitted cardigan draped over her shoulders, and a skirt cut just above the knee. “You look nice,” Light stammered, cursing himself for the way his voice portrayed his sudden, unexplained nervousness. Takada blushed, gripping her bag tightly, and mumbled her thanks. The pair of them spent the journey in complete silence.
At the gallery, Light paid for both Takada and himself and they wandered around the empty spaces, pretending to gaze intently at the artwork they passed. Light was restless, and yet at the same time he felt a warm content at being able to stand this close to Takada. But the feeling was pushed away when he heard a shrilly voice calling his name from the end of the room. “Light! Light, over here! It’s me! I didn’t know you were coming here today!” Light managed to avoid swearing, and turned around, forgetting Takada.
Light raised an eyebrow warningly, but Misa took no notice and came running at him, still squealing about how happy and surprised she was to see him. Takada was still quite shy around Light, and so she tugged at his hand to get his attention. “Light, do you – do you know Misa Misa?” Light nodded, “Yeah, we met in a shop somewhere and started talking. Misa, this is my girlfriend, Kiyomi Takada.” Misa beamed. “He’s never mentioned you before!” Takada blushed violently, and shrank back even more. Light was fuming. How dare Misa go against him?
“Well, we’d better get on, Misa,” Light growled. “Sorry to have to leave, but we need to get home soon for dinner. So, we’ll talk later, yeah?” And with that, he strode off, towing Takada behind him. He didn’t speak to her until they were in his room, when he turned to Takada and said, “So what do you want to do until dinner’s ready then?” Takada smiled. “I don’t mind. I’ll do whatever you want to, Light.” Light still couldn’t get rid of his anger at Misa, and it didn’t help that when he looked out of the window he saw Misa watching from the street. She saw him looking at her, and waved wildly, but Light didn’t react. He turned to Takada and beckoned her over. Puzzled, Takada wove around his room until she was stood with him, and he put his hands on her waist as he kissed her. The whole time, he had one eye on Misa in the street, and saw her jumping up and down in rage. He smirked. Desired effect: achieved.
Light and Takada went back up to Light’s room after dinner to pick up where they left off. But first, Light went over to the window, pretended to adjust the blinds, but could see that Misa was still watching him. Good. He turned to Takada, and took off her cardigan. As they melted into one another, Light made sure they stayed within Misa’s view the whole time. When it was getting dark, Light’s mother called up the stairs, telling him to walk Takada home. He pulled his shirt up off the floor and put it on, watching as Takada slipped back into her own clothes.
Light and Takada walked home comfortably, their fingers knitted together, and the silence was no longer uncomfortable. But Takada never noticed that Light was just acting, no matter how well. The whole day had been a lie, just a cover up to Light, as well as a small bit of revenge. It was a good thing that Takada fell into Light’s trap, or else his first careless action could have led to his downfall faster and more publically in the future…From that day on, Light never did one more careless thing. Everything was planned immaculately, down to the last tiny detail.
