Flowers are Eternal

Long ago, in a tiny village as the pregnant moon floated high above the sky there lived a young girl. No one in the village knew her. She had no parents to speak of and she was incredibly odd. From her dark colored hair to the bright colored clothes she wore. She only came into the village on market days because she sold flowers there. But not your typical flowers. Her flowers were special. She had some that could heal any ailment when its petals were crushed into perfume. She had some flowers that would dance if you told them too. The villagers always bought her miracle flowers. That made the girl really happy. Though she never spoke her beautiful little face lit up when anyone bought her flowers. One day, however, that would change. A boy from the village watched that strange girl day in and day out. He hoped one day she would look his way. He decided to walk with her to her home. No one knew where she lived and no one cared to know but this boy was determined. "May I walk you home? It's awfully dark outside and I'd hate to see you hurt?" He asked as politely as he could. But the girl only shook her head and carried her flowers in her basket. When the boy tried to follow her, the strange girl ran in front of him and held her arms out wide as if to say "Go no further." The boy grew angry and every time he would try to go around her she stopped him. "Why can't I take you home!?" He shouted at her. Tears sprang to her little eyes and she dropped her basket of flowers and ran. The boy tried to run after her but something caught his leg. He tripped and watched the small retreating figure enter the woods. He looked at what had tripped him. The once beautiful flowers in the basket where now ugly and twisted. They hissed at him and wrapped their vines tighter around his ankles. He yelled for help and managed to beat the gnarled things off of him. He ran back to the village and told them what had happened but they just laughed at him. In his embarrassment and humiliation, he vowed to get even with that treacherous strange girl. No matter what.
