Dark Ages

The adventure continues!
Kudos to whoever gets the title reference.

Lately technology has hated me. First, for most of last week the cell tower that my phone always wants to use decided it hated life and was trying to commit suicide, leaving me with little to no signal in my apartment and barely any as I wondered the parking lot trying to make important calls.

Then the net didn't want to work, then it wanted to, then not, then said hi, then bye and so on. To day is the longest it's been constantly up.

And now my microwave is calling it quits. All I can think of is how it is good that I now have a decent job that gets me money in the bank beyond chump change.

As such with the net, I haven't had much of a chance to look at the new season. Once I do I'm going to try and review it a bit.

To start with, I can at least comment on the carry overs from last that I've been watching: Sailor Moon and Happiness Charge Precure.

Sailor Moon Crystal:
I had decent hopes for it given that Toei had more time per episode but unless they can get it together now that Sailor Venus is in the mix, this reboot will lose to the original anime. The characters are at their best when they are together and the focus is on them, but lose something when they are a side focus to, say, Tuxedo Mask. And then there is the animation, the inconsistent animation. Seven episodes... most 2-cour start losing quality after the first cour. To make a comparison, Toei is also in charge of Happiness Charge and that is almost on the 4th cour at episode 35.

So let's move on to Happiness Charge:
As most of you know, I am a Precure girl. I've seen all but one series (Suite! Precure) so in total that is 190 so odd hours of Precure. With that in mind, how does Happiness Charge hold up against the rest?

From the start, the influence from Heartcatch Precure is obvious. That in and of itself is not bad as Heartcatch is one of my top favorites. But it also does new somethings, the most prominent is that precures are a worldwide thing. In past series the precures were limited to specific locations. Here they are all over the world battling the Phantom Empire. I like the idea.

Next is the characters, which all Precure shows rely on for goodness. Again the Heartcatch influence is there but the girls are their own and Yuu-Yuu is "mai waifu!"
In the most recent episodes each girl has gotten a spotlight and I feel those episodes have been done well. The characterization and development is steady and given care.

As I mentioned before, at episode 35 the animation is still strong. The most standout episode being 32. Between the special palette and a wonderful moment with Iona, it makes Sailor Moon's first seven episodes look bland.

Now I could just be biased being a Precure nut, but if you are looking for a starter series, you can't go wrong with Happiness Charge. I can only hope it ends strong so that it will go to the top of my favs.

Mai Waifu!

Here's to the new season!

I'll post my book challenge later once I pick my next book.
