Abilities
Tobi's Pein Rikudō

While a member of the Uchiha clan who became a chūnin at the age of 11, Obito's overall prowess as a shinobi was average at best, constantly behind his other classmates. In spite of this relatively slow development in his younger years, Obito's talent began to surface after awakening his Sharingan, with Guruguru later noting Obito's potential as the reason why Madara had chosen him as his disciple.[65] As an adult, trained by Madara, Obito became an extremely powerful shinobi with his abilities being a near-mirror image of Madara's own, enabling him to deceive many high-level shinobi into believing he was Madara. Obito has been able to hold his own against multiple Kage-level and S-rank shinobi as well as perfect jinchūriki on numerous occasions.

Taijutsu

As a child, Obito was fairly skilled with taijutsu, though not at the same level as Kakashi or Might Guy. After his rehabilitation with Madara, he showed noticeable improvement, able to subdue multiple Kirigakure Anbu. In his adulthood, he was able to go up against Kakashi, a taijutsu expert.[66] He mostly achieves these feats by using taijutsu in tandem with his Sharingan and space-time technique to allow opponents to pass through him and then quickly counter using the elements of surprise and confusion.

With his artificial body, Obito's physical strength was increased significantly. With his artificial right arm, he was able to crack a massive boulder,[13] lift Konan by her throat,[67] and stop a slash from Kubikiribōchō without being injured.[68] Obito survived being impaled through the chest by Kakashi's lightning-infused kunai long enough to become the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki.[69] As a child, Obito showed noticeable reflexes and agility, able to quickly get rid of a trap sprung on his team.[70] He also displayed speed against the Kirigakure ninja he fought, closing distances quickly and landing a series of swift blows and punches before any of them could react.[15] As an adult, Obito's agility was great enough that he was able to keep up with Naruto in his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.[71]

Ninjutsu
Nature Transformation

As a recognised member of the Uchiha clan, Obito has been well-versed in Fire Release techniques, such as the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, since childhood.[72] In the anime, Obito displayed the ability to conceal shuriken in multiple small fireballs.[73] As an adult, his Fire Release prowess developed greatly, with his techniques being of the same size and scale as Madara's.[74] He can use Kamui's rotation to enhance the range of his Fire Release techniques.[75]

Piercing Branches

Obito gained the ability to use Wood Release after acquiring artificial body mass created from Hashirama Senju's DNA.[11] With this kekkei genkai, he could produce wood projectiles which multiplied inside the target's body, massive tangled roots to viciously crush his enemies,[15] and smaller roots from one of his arms to restrain his opponents.[76] In conjunction with Madara, Obito was able to control the Ten-Tails in its second form by connecting to it with Hashirama's DNA.[77][78] Obito can also use the Wood Release's two component natures: earth and water. The former allows him to burrow and move underground to spread bombs across a battlefield, creating a literal minefield,[79] and also to create and quickly move between various holes for sneak attacks.

Bukijutsu
As an adult, Obito has been seen wielding various weapons. During the Fourth Shinobi World War he began carrying Madara's gunbai, which he used in a similar fashion to a flail attached to a chain, and as a means of defending.[80][81] In his first fight with Minato Namikaze, he used a long chain attached to braces on his wrists in conjunction with his intangibility, harmlessly passing through his opponent before solidifying to restrain him with the trailing chain.[82] Around the time of the Uchiha Incident, Obito carried a sword at his waist, implying some skill in kenjutsu.[54][55] He was able to use a pipe as a makeshift weapon to impale Konan and, in the anime, skilfully block a flurry of her Paper Shuriken.[83] Obito is able to produce chakra receivers from his artificial right half,[84] a number of which were fashioned into giant stakes and stored within Kamui's dimension.

Once becoming the jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails and gaining complete control of the beast, Obito gained access to the Sword of Nunoboko, the very blade that Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki once wielded and is said to have shaped the world with. The blade is formed out of the Truth-Seeking Balls, and Obito claimed he could use it to lay waste to the world.[85]

Shurikenjutsu

Obito ejects multiple shuriken from Kamui's dimension.
As an Uchiha, Obito is proficient in the use of shurikenjutsu, and stores a set of giant shuriken of varying sizes within Kamui's dimension. Using Kamui's spiraling distortion, he is able to launch them at a high rotational speed, which adds an element of surprise to his attack and gives the opponent minimal time to react accordingly.[86] He also uses them as close-range melee weapons, for both stabbing and slashing.[66] Obito also has a set of giant kunai, which he uses in an identical fashion in conjunction with his dōjutsu.[87]

Dōjutsu
Sharingan

When Obito first awakened his Sharingan it already had two tomoe and he was able to take immediate advantage of it despite his inexperience.[88] His eye gained three tomoe after witnessing Rin's death.[89] As an adult, Obito seems to be able to keep his Sharingan active for extended periods of time with little drain on his chakra levels. He can use his Sharingan to place individuals under genjutsu from a single moment of eye-contact and then perform effects like forcing his victims to reveal information or incapacitating them.[90] His proficiency with genjutsu is high enough to control the Fourth Mizukage and Isobu's jinchūriki, Yagura, for a long period of time; prowess Mei Terumī compared to Kotoamatsukami.[91] He also battled Kakashi, another skilled Sharingan user, in a genjutsu duel to a standstill.[32][92]

Like Madara, Obito can use his Sharingan to place tailed beasts under his control. Obito was able to summon Kurama after placing it under his control and used it to attack Konohagakure. While this control can be complete when used on a single target, when cast on several, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain, allowing the beasts to temporarily break free in certain instances.[93][94] Obito can also perform a kinjutsu of the Uchiha clan, Izanagi, which allows the user manipulate events around them into an illusion at the cost of blinding the eye used. While this technique is normally used for a brief instant due to the short amount of time each eye can maintain it, Obito's control over Hashirama's DNA extended the length of his Izanagi, allowing him to maintain it for ten minutes using a single eye.[95]

After giving up his original left eye to Kakashi, Obito obtained a new left Sharingan and has multiple placed in storage should he need them. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, after Black Zetsu gained complete control of Obito's body, Madara re-implanted Obito's true left eye into its original wielder.

Mangekyō Sharingan
Obito's Mangekyo

Obito awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan after witnessing Rin's death at the hands of Kakashi.[89] As a matching pair originally belonging to Obito, the Uchiha's right eye has the same design as Kakashi's left; three stretched triangles evenly spaced around the pupil that each curve at the top around the eye to form a circle, making it similar to a pinwheel. Uniquely, Obito does not appear to suffer from deteriorating eyesight, strained physical health, or even exhaustion despite his extensive use of its power throughout the years. His teaching under Madara has given Obito extensive knowledge of the various Mangekyō techniques. He is also able to somehow disperse the flames of Amaterasu even if engulfed by them.

It is through this dōjutsu that he is able to perform his space–time ninjutsu, Kamui,[96] which was noted by Minato Namikaze to be more versatile than his and Tobirama Senju's own.[97] Kamui serves as a gateway to another dimensional space, which he can instantly send parts of his body or his entirety to and back from, granting Obito two distinct abilities: teleportation, and another best described as "intangibility". When going "intangible" by shifting parts of his being between dimensions, he can allow any matter in the original dimension to harmlessly pass right through him,[98] granting Obito a very effective defense maneuver to escape damage or catch his opponents off-guard. This became such a key element in Obito's fighting style that he rarely resorts to more traditional forms of ninjutsu. He can also extend this intangibility to whatever he's touching at the time.[99] The second ability of Obito's Kamui is to absorb targets into the other dimension through physical contact. By absorbing his own body, Obito is able to transport himself to practically any location he desires. The chakra signatures of those in the other dimension completely vanish while in it.[100]

Space time migration

He can also use his Kamui to unleash various weapons from the technique's pocket dimension, using the warping distortion to greatly increase their launch speed and force. As versatile as Kamui is, it has some drawbacks. He can only make himself continuously intangible for about five minutes, and because these two abilities are connected to the same technique, Obito can only use one of them at a time; he must remain solid while transporting himself or other targets, leaving him susceptible to counter-attacks when he does so, and it takes longer to teleport himself than it does someone or something else.[101] The only reliable counter to this technique is another person using Kamui against Obito, as objects and people warped away by Kamui are sent to the same dimension where they can then harm the parts of Obito that may exist there.[102] However, at the same time, Obito is "immune" in a sense to others using this technique on him.[103]

After regaining his true left eye, Obito gained access to Kamui's long-range variation, able to teleport any target within his line of sight. With both eyes being used on the same target, the teleporting process works twice as fast. He can also adapt Kamui's dimensional-shifting ability to work in sync with other space-time ninjutsu. Unlike the general use of Kamui, because Obito is accessing a dimension other than his own, it drains Obito of considerably more chakra, and noticeably places great strain on his eyes despite wielding both eyes.[104] Once there, however, Obito is able to use Kamui as normal again, able to hide within Kamui's own dimension and return to the new dimension at will.[105]

Rinnegan

Following the loss of his left Sharingan due to his use of Izanagi, Obito implanted Madara's Rinnegan, taken from Nagato's corpse, into his left eye socket in preparation for the Fourth Shinobi World War.[106] While only able to handle a single eye, with the Rinnegan, Obito gained a series of abilities, such as the potential to master all five forms of nature transformation and the ability to summon the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.

Also as a wielder of the Rinnegan, Obito could access the Six Paths Technique, a series of unique ninjutsu skills. He could use the Human Path technique to extract information from an individual, though the process would kill the target. He had also displayed extensive use of the Outer Path ability, which allowed him to manifest chakra chains and perform the Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique at the cost of his own life. Obito stated that the binding power of his chains were greater than Nagato's Outer Path binding.[107]

Obito made use of the Six Paths of Pain, which he created from six reincarnated jinchūriki. By embedding each with a single chakra receiver, he was able to manipulate them and temporarily bind their former tailed beasts' chakra to their bodies. Using the Demonic State's chakra chains, Obito could instantly drag the tailed beasts back into the statue as needed. Each jinchūriki also had the same eyes Obito himself — a right Sharingan and a left Rinnegan — allowing him to share their vision and coordinate their movements. This enhanced the jinchūriki's original abilities, allowing them to perform a series of collaborative and precise attacks. However, due to the immense chakra consumption required, he did not have them use the individual skills granted by the Six Paths Technique.[108]

Obito ultimately lost the Rinnegan and all the abilities that came with it after it was reclaimed by Madara.
