I admire The Little Mermaid for her courage.
You see, she chased after her dreams -- after what she wants -- a soul and the prince she loves. That’s two birds in one stone!
Her tale is very different from other fairy tales. She didn’t have a fairy godmother to help her achieve this. She went out of her way to exchange her tail for feet. It is not free too. In exchange for her feet, she has to give up her voice. She really stepped out of her comfort zone for this. Her feet really hurt every time she walks. Clearly she has sacrificed a lot -- from a mermaid princess to a mute commoner. Things were not as easy as a swish of a wand for her.
She is very determined though. What are her legs for?! She cannot talk but she can dance! She danced her way to her prince’s heart. She almost got there. Almost -- a very grievous word. Her prince thought of her only as a substitute. Someone he will marry had he not found the girl whom he thought saved him. This scenario is already heartbreaking. But this is not the end of it. Her prince found and married “her”.
Now, he is no longer her prince. Now, he’s somebody else’s. Now, she can no longer have what she already gave up when she decided to pursue her dreams. It’s all because she failed in her pursuit. Her destiny to become foam in the ocean is fast approaching.
Despite the hurt, broken heart and all that she already lost and still can lose, she cannot bring herself to kill the prince. Even if it is her only way to return some of what she once have. Even if this chance is a sacrifice her sisters had made for her. Her love for him is still a lot more potent than anything else.
And then she jumped into the ocean, expecting to become foam in salty water. There, a surprise awaits her. She became one of the Sisters of the Wind. She did not lose everything, it seems. She is yet to gain a soul!
Before she became one of the Sisters of the Wind, I imagine her returning to her true form one last time. For one last moment, the lukewarm seawater drenched her skin and her hair danced with the current…
Some might say she is a dumb girl. May be she is. But let us admit, not everyone is brave enough to gamble as much with no guarantee of a positive outcome. To go from the ocean, loving, dancing, getting hurt, struggling and then soaring to the wide sky!
So much for never ending thoughts... Now I find my mind... uhm... empty. No idea, no art, no words (or maybe there are few). This is really frustrating...
For some reason, my creativity (I am now actually doubting if I really ever had it), suddenly vanished. My hands just won't move automatically like it has a mind of her own just like before.
This has been going on for several weeks now.
Oh well... I guess I cannot do anything about it for now. I trust that it will return, I just hope that it would be soon. Maybe I'll just take a break.
I'll just submit my old drawings for now. ^ _ ^ I miss submitting my drawings...
Once upon a time, there is a little girl who has believed in fairy tales - that all girls are princesses and that their princes will one day come along in their white, majestic steed, will sweep the princesses off their feet, and they will ride together towards their castle and a happily ever after.
This little girl slowly grew into a young lady. And then she slowly realized that her fairy tale dream is not for every girl, that not every girl is a princess. That Cinderella’s kind heart, Snow White’s flawless beauty, Aurora’s magical gifts, and The Little Mermaid’s daring courage are really quite rare.
Also, there are a lot of fake princes around, breaking the hearts of most of the ladies she knew. With every broken heart she witnessed, hers cracks, and with every teary eyes she’s seen, her eyes wells up too.
But not all hope’s lost for this girl. She’s not yet ready to let go of her dream. She’s still certain that somewhere, somehow, there are couples who have found a one true love, a happily ever after. And maybe, she’ll be lucky and have her own prince!
Her mind is still blank. All she knows is that her heart is beating so fast…
She's not sure about what happened. She’s still fazed. Why is she dancing with such a wonderful guy?!
The moment he asked her for a dance… Though she knows that the love of her life has arrived, she wanted to run. But something in his clear eyes and soft smile told her to take his lead. She has already seen this romantic meeting with her true love in her dreams but never imagined that it would make her heart skip a mile... She has been found but felt so lost. Somehow all things seem so right, yet something's wrong... She knows that this is it but felt so unsure...
One thing’s certain, though – her skipping heart has mixed everything up!
He is still amazed at this girl! Her eyes showed a lot of emotion almost at the same time…
When he saw her across the room, he just couldn’t stop himself from going up to her and asking for a dance. It thrilled him so when he saw that she seems to want to run away from him. Her confusion is so amusing. She’s, indeed, different, in more than one aspect, from any other girl present in that hall.
Right then and there he knew - she is the princess he has always dreamt of.
In the midst of their silent dance, with all the unspoken thoughts, they wish to know more about each other. To take their mask off, at least see their face, know their name. Who might this stranger be? Who is this person I have fallen in love with?!
