Matthieu: Passing time

((OOC: Hi, sorry it's my first post in a while, been terribly busy with work and everything. Will hopefully be able to keep posting, but will have to see. For now, as I've missed a lot, allow me to pass a bit of time with my character, then I'll make another post catching up with the others. Bear in mind that this is totally optional reading, as it won't really affect anything, story-wise. Just filling in some blanks for my character. Cheers.))

Matthieu was awakened by a loud knocking at his door. He opened his eyes, and was slightly confused to find he was still in darkness. He sat up, and the book he had forgotten to put down before falling asleep fell into his lap. Looking around the now clearly visible room, he smiled at his absent-mindedness.

Suddenly becoming more aware, he heard a second knock, and he swiftly got out of bed to investigate. Standing at his door was one of his fellow teachers, who wished to have a discussion with him about the events of the previous night. The principal was apparently disconcerted to find such horrors occurring within the walls of his beloved school, but was pleased with Durant's - and more so with the students' - performance in defending themselves, and the rest of the academy.

Durant spoke, somewhat reservedly, about the experience. He was most surprised to find such things befalling him in his first few days as a tutor. After all, this was far from what he had expected when he applied for the job. Relay a few stories, pass on his skills, that sort of thing. In his mind, his days of fighting for his life were far behind him. But not anymore.

...

Seeing that he had no classes for the time being, Durant stepped outside the grounds of the school for the first time since taking the position of tutor. He took a deep breath, casting his eyes upwards and around, taking in the night-time scenery with awe. Pulling his coat closed with both hands, he set out on a long walk, to collect his thoughts, as he often did, and perhaps to head into the nearest village and take a look around.

Little did he know what lay in wait for the students during his absence...

...

Durant sat bolt upright in bed. He peered around the room frantically, for it was not his own. Brushing his hair back out of his face, his mind awoke, and he moved his arm down the side of the bed, retrieving a large bottle. He examined it in the dimly lit room, shaking it gently in his hand. He smiled, remarking to himself how its' contents had diminished so. He placed the bottle to his lips, tilting his head back as he did so.

As he did, he caught sight of the human woman who lay next to him. Taking in her appearance, he sighed to himself. He had all but forgotten what it was like to be in the company of humans. The poor girl had been drinking with the vampire for most of the evening, oblivious to his race, before passing out almost immediately upon taking him to her room upstairs. Durant sat for a moment, watching her sleep with an innocent curiosity. The more obvious of mortal pleasures no longer seemed to interest him, but in the back of his mind lay a faint memory, like the once familiar scent of a flower which has long since withered and perished.

He lifted the bottle to his lips again, and drained the liquid within. Though of course, he ever longed for the taste of blood on his lips, his love of fine wine was one he hoped would stay with him for the rest of his days.

Suddenly, he heard Amarie's voice in his head, and knew that he needed to return to the school as fast as he could. He shot out of bed with frightening speed, throwing his coat over his shoulders. He leaned over his human companion one final time, placing a kiss on her forehead, before making his way outside, and back towards the academy, as quickly as his vampiric powers would allow...
