Tales of Okuri Tale 3 of 7 Eliminating the Competition

Then he leaped high, showing his new form to all. He had slightly over doubled in size, but his tails had lengthened at a higher ratio. The hair on both his head and body had increased in thickness and length. His armor had become slightly more ornate, but retained every bit of its functionality. Claws slightly longer and more curved, his eyes bloodshot, the most obvious change had been his face. For although he had retained his red fang tattoos, his head had been turned into that of a wolf!

Inuko’s eyes widened. Terror had caused every muscle in her body to freeze. If Okuri had been able to whip this out at anytime - admittedly, though, she had read he would only be able to do this at night – it was no wonder Okuri had so much confidence in himself!

Okuri landed on all four limbs and snarled. The sound was deeper, louder and far more frightening than any sound he produced in his usual form. He picked up the hilt and handle of his broken sword, which had grown with him. The eyes of the wolf head in the hilt suddenly glowed yellow, and it sprung to life, snapping its jaws hungrily. Okuri chuckled and spoke to the sword in a voice even rougher and deeper than his own. “Are you hungry, Koga? Hungry for revenge? Or do you simply need to consume another sword to reforge yourself?” The metal wolf head snarled its angry response. “Well, no matter. I’ll just let you eat Kusanagi and fill both your hungers!”

Kusanagi swung forward, aiming again for Okuri’s throat. But this time when Okuri raised Koga in defense, the metal wolf head bit down on Kusanagi, stopping it. Koga’s eyes glowed brighter, and it began to devour Kusanagi the same way Akamaru had eaten Isamu’s horse. When it was finished, it licked its lips and started snapping at the air. While to an onlooker, it may have appeared that Koga was trying to bite its own tongue, it was actually gobbling up the pieces of its shattered blade that had disappeared into the wind. Suddenly, it stopped moving. With its jaws wide open, it spat out a blade an impressive 9 meters long. It had doubled in broadness, and when one took the increase in width into account, the blade was seven times larger than before. This was normal to happen when Okuri underwent his possession. This time, however, the blade was 10 times physically stronger than before, and had the divine power of Kusanagi corrupted and added to its own.

Okuri thrust his new blade forward, shattering the mirror Yata no Kagami. The fractured pieces reassembled themselves onto Koga and Okuri’s armor. Okuri grinned; as Shogun, he had attained the power of 2/3 of the Imperial Regalia. That was all that he was going to obtain from the Regalia, so Yasakani no Magatama, that string of beads, meant nothing to him. With a single breath, he scattered the beads across a great distance, rendering them useless.
