Tales of Okuri Tale 2 of 7 Beauty and the Beasts

“Come on, please?” whined Kiba.

“I keep telling you, there is no more I can teach you! You must learn the rest on your own.” Okuri snapped. Kiba’s persistence was quite annoying this particular night, making it difficult to focus on finding Big Black.

“You never told me what to do on a date!”

Okuri stopped, turning to his brother. “A date? You think you’re going to go on a date? WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE HER?!?!?!” Akamaru barked loudly. “What? Really? Y’know, that just might work. Okay, Kiba, after tonight, you’ll know everything I can teach you, so no more asking me for advice after this, got it?”

Inuko sighed. Hoshi had just heard her explanation of Okuri’s possible plan, and she didn’t like it. “He can just kill the Shogun and take his title…..just like that? That’s impossible; he’ll face far too much resistance from the council! Oh, forget it. If he killed the Shogun, he’d probably kill the council if they got in his way! We’d have a tyrant for a Shogun!”

“And what is so wrong with that?” Inuko asked.

“A tyrant would have everyone cowering in fear of him, following his every command, no matter how cruel or twisted it be!”

“That just means he’d be capable of getting things done. I’ll bet those brothers are some sort of visionaries. I think they want to start the war…… to end war. That’s impossible, of course, but the peace would still last, what,
several decades?”

“You sound like you’re taking their side.”

“Maybe I am.”

The rest of the night went well, since Hoshi couldn’t stay up long enough to keep arguing with her. Inuko wandered the construction site, hoping to find the Wolf brother’s trail. She succeeded in this, but could not follow it. Discouraged, she started heading back to the nearest building. Then a terrible noise sounded. The howling of wolves mixed with the howling of the wind. It frightened even her. At first she thought she heard over a dozen wolves howling, but as she listened more intently, she could here 3 distinct voices. It was the Wolf Brothers. They were hunting something. And they were announcing it to the world, because their prey didn’t stand a chance.
