The day of the Chunnin Finals had not yet come, so Okuri spent another day free from any sort of schedule. But today, Hana and Kiba were under Mother’s watchful eyes, so he slipped away without any monkeys on his back.
After grabbing himself a nice bird (right out of a tree) for breakfast, he decided to spend the rest of the day at the target range. For ordinary people, this would be an unusual place to do any sort of relaxing, but Okuri wasn’t ordinary by any measure.
He sat down in front of a tree, with multiple targets above his head, not even caring that gennin would inevitably come and starting throwing shuriken. The first of these gennin was none other than his own team mate, Itachi Uchiha.
Itachi was a confident and somewhat arrogant nin, and it could been seen in both stance and swagger. He wore the red and white fan on his black t-shirt, which concealed most of his throat with a huge neckband. His pants where beige, and loaded with pockets, which were in turn probably loaded with ninja tools. His forehead was almost perfectly shaped for the headband he wore upon it. He did not raise an interested eyebrow, as another might, but instead began throwing his shuriken at one of the target trees. “Surprised to see you here. Thought for sure you’d be training.”
“Nah.” Okuri shot back. “I’ve reached my limit for now, so I’ve got nothing better to do than lie under this tree and stare up at the sky.”
“Why would you stare at the sky?”
“Why not?”
“I thought you said you were colorblind.”
Okuri sighed. “I’m not COMPLETELY colorblind. I can see all reds, some yellows, and some oranges too. Otherwise, I’m colorblind.”
Itachi pause for a moment, and continued his argument. “But then what’s the point of looking at the sky if you can’t see blue?”
“Itachi?”
“What?”
“Shut up before I rip your tongue out.”
Itachi turned his head, pony tail struggling to keep up, to his team mate, shocked. He had argued with Okuri before, but the bestial boy had never been so….defiant…before. He looked closer, and saw that Okuri’s body had bulked up considerable mass for a 10-year old. His teeth, particularly his canines, seemed just a tad bigger than the last time he saw them. He had stopped getting his hair cut, and it gave him the appearance of a large dog. Perhaps Okuri was going through an early puberty….these WERE the signs of puberty in members of the Inuzuka clan.
Itachi shook his head and resumed his training.
