Let's Gather 'Round the Campfire...

“A married couple was going out on a date one night, and paid the babysitter to watch their eight- year- old son. The babysitter was pretty typical; teenaged, boyfriend on the phone, and she didn’t pay much attention to the kid.

“As the baby sitter was talking to her boyfriend over the phone, the power went out.”

‘Man. I’d better check if the kid’s okay.’ She walked up the stairs, looking around. Surprisingly, the kid was asleep already. When she got back downstairs, there was something different about the living room. It was then that she noticed a clown doll…”

“Not another doll…” Shizuo rolled his eyes.

Ven shook his head. “The thing is, she called the parents when the emergency power was on, asking about the doll. But…”

“But?”

“But when she asked about the doll, the parents told her that they had no doll…and the phone dropped to the floor.”
Naruto’s eyes widened and so did Terra’s.

“They were trying to tell her,” Ven bit his lip, “That they didn’t have a doll like that, but before she could hear it, the clown jumped at the babysitter and strangled her to death.”

Silence engulfed the boys in the tent as they listened intensely. “So… what happened next?”

“Obviously,” Ven said, making sure he didn’t think about the story he told, “The clown was after the kid upstairs. The babysitter wasn’t anything special. He adored little kids. Kids didn’t always scream. He liked that. The only time they screamed was when they knew, at the last moment of their lives, when they were in danger. By then it was too late.

“So he went upstairs to where the kid was, only to find the room empty. The little man was furious. Now he would have to look for the kid.”

“Why couldn’t he just go look for someone else?” Sasuke asked, raising a brow.

“When that clown wanted something, he got it. There were no exceptions. It’s like….” Ven looked at the top of the tent, “When you want a certain candy in the store. You won’t eat anything else, right?”

“I don’t like sweets.” Sasuke closed his eyes.

“Obviously it was an example, dumbass.” Naruto sneered.

“Shut up already…”

“Anyway…” Ven sighed, “What the clown didn’t know was that the boy was very cautious, even though he was young. He’d been waiting for the clown to come upstairs, and he took his father’s gun…” Ven shrugged. “Boom. Simple as that. But when the boy shot him in the head, the clown’s hand latched onto his leg…so the boy fell, just as the clown, who’d grabbed something sharp on the way up, stabbed at him.

“BOOM! Another shot to the head. Blood spurted everywhere, but the clown kept coming, bullet wounds and all. Just as he was about to stab the boy through the heart, he became still. For a few seconds, clown reached out, weak, and he said ‘Why didn’t you scream? I’ll make you scream if it’s the last thing I…’” Ven trailed off. “ And thankfully, he died.”

“In another town, two days later, a babysitter noticed something strange in the living room of her employer’s house. She took the phone and dialed calmly until she reached the parents of the child she was watching. ‘Hello? Yes…should I move the clown doll in the front? It’s scaring me.’

“’Sweetheart,’ the father said, ‘We don’t have a clown doll.’” Ven sat back. “The end.” And then he smiled.

“…OH MY GOD.” Naruto covered his face, “That was SICK.”

Sasuke was looking at the top of the tent now as if he was more freaked out than anyone, and Terra was covering his face. “Damn, Ven…” Terra pinched the blonde’s cheeks. “Why was your story so scary?”

“Ow, ow!! Leggo, Terra!” Ven flailed his arms, and Itachi stood, setting down his can of pop. “I believe it’s safe to go now.”

“Um…” A hush fell over the boys in the tent. The first one who spoke after that was Shizuo.

“I’m not leaving this tent until I get some food.” He didn’t seem as spiteful as he was before- maybe he’d cooled down upon hearing Ven’s story- but he did sound irritated.

“I second that.” Terra raised his hand, and the other boys agreed.

Itachi sighed. “We cannot eat if there is nothing to eat.” With that, deciding he was the only sensible member of the group, he left in an effort to find sustenance.

“….I’m going to be honest. I really don’t want to leave this tent because I’m afraid some doll will get me.” Shizuo smirked, receiving four smiles in return.

“So am I…” Sasuke sighed, “But I have a right to be scared…”

“You really expect us to believe that your story was real? Ven’s was more believable. That made it scary.” Terra put in.

“What about mine? Mine was good!” Naruto insisted, but Shizuo shook his head.

“I’ve got a better one…”
