This is a dump space for any Asia-related stuff I (or you) think is fascinating, hilarious, just plain trippy, and everything in-between. Stuff from Southeast Asian countries is definitely encouraged, and everyone is welcome to post. (PM me to become a guest poster!) Let's all join hands and revel in the Asia-ness! :DDD

American My Sassy Girl Remake

Now this is just sad.

You know, I really don't understand why the movie execs. are so insistent on taking Asian movies (a good number of which weren't really even all that great in the first place, in my not-so-humble opinion), and then proceed to make them THAT much worse. I mean, not only do these remakes have a complete disregard for cultural differences and why certain movies just don't work as well in America, but the changes they DO make in an attempt to "Americanize" the movie often destroy the things that made the original movie work in the first place. Honestly. I just don't understand why these things keep getting made. AND THEY'RE STILL NOT EFFING STOPPING.

In relation to My Sassy Girl, which actually WAS a good movie IMO, it seems that this American version is attempting to make it less weird and more palatable for American audiences... which basically defeats the purpose of the whole film. The reason why the original was so darn funny was specifically because Jun Jihyun's character was so grossly exaggerated and FIERCE, and on the other hand, the guy was completely pussy-whipped. Therein lies the inherent humor of the plot and the reason why it was so memorable.

From the looks of this trailer, the girl is a lot more normal and only just slightly insane, the guy is much "cooler" and NOT AT ALL pussy-whipped because Lord knows that can't happen in an American teen romance flick. Seriously, just compare the above trailer with the original Korean trailer, and the differences should be pretty damn apparent. :/

EDIT: Oh, and the fact that it's the girl from 24 makes the whole thing THAT much more infuriating, since I hated her damn character in that show so damn much. :(((

Cat on a Dolphin

For the past couple days, I've been planning to write a much more intelligible and enlightening post about South Korea and the crazy internet culture they have over there. But apparently I am too lazy to do that at the moment so...

FILLER POST!!! I present to you all:

Cat on a Dolphin! A Japanese flash game with a dolphin and a dancing cat. Or a suffocating cat depending on how well you play. :3

The only control is the left button on your mouse: hold down to make the dolphin swim forward, and when the cat's air meter has depleted too much, release the button to throw the cat upwards into the air. Then while the cat is falling back down, you have to position the dolphin so that it catches the cat when it lands.

It sounds simple enough, but... let's just say that I've seen people kill the cat on purpose on a few occasions out of sheer frustration. :3

A few tips to make the game that much less difficult to figure out:
-The red line at the bottom left corner is a map of the level's entire course.
-When the cat needs air and you're about to go over a hill, ALWAYS release just before going over the bump. This goes for downhill bumps as well.
-When going through loops, it's usually best to release at the 3:00 position.

Happy playing~! :3

Introduction Post~!

Okay, I'm not sure where exactly the description sentence went (the one I wrote out when I created this thing!), so I'll just restate it here: this is basically a dump space for any Asia-related stuff I (or you) think is fascinating, hilarious, just plain trippy, and everything in-between. Stuff from Southeast Asian countries is definitely encouraged, and everyone is welcome to post. Let's all join hands and revel in the Asia-ness! :DDD

Figured it would be appropriate to start off with something from the Anime Motherland. Now available in Japan: flavored hot baths!

Yes, I know that that preview pic seems frightening. Be strong, my friends.

I LOVE the news reporter for reasons that should be obvious by the end of the video. And I also like the way he says cocoa. (Ca-COW.) Though I still don't know WHY anyone would ever want to bathe in a tub of curry water, but okay Japan. You win.

(Brought to you by Reuters. Which probably means that this was used as news fodder in world news programs the world over. Keep an eye on your TVs, people!)
