Walking back threw the portal. I kept repeating through my head those odd looks I was getting from RaXi. Then that last smile she gave me before we left kept nagging at me. I felt so horrible keeping this secret from her and she must know that something is up, with all the looks we have been getting. I want to tell her so bad, to have someone else to talk about this especially sense we barely kept any secrets from each other.
“Nyx dear, would you show Xerebus to one of our rooms until everyone else gets here.” Tanex said drawing me out of my thoughts.
“Y-yes Tanex.”
With that he disappeared, I guess; to tell the others to get ready for a meeting and probably to rub it in that we had a ‘special’ guest. Turning behind me to hopefully get a chance to say something to RaXi, I watched as she walked into her own portal. After a sarcastic remark and grin from Marlex and an eye roll from Xeros they disappeared as well, leaving only Xerebus and I in the hallway.
“Well… um. If you could please follow me Xerebus, I believe the empty rooms are down this way.”
I never had to use a guest room and not remembering where they are, I decided to go with my instincts which lead us down two dead ends, up to one of the towers, the kitchen, which was kinda nice to find, a rec. room, that I didn’t even know we had, a huge questionable closet, and then back to the hallway we started at. I always was bad at directions. I could get lost in some of the simplest locations. I guess that is why Saix wanted RaXi to go with me on missions, or I may have never found my objective. Finally after all that time I figured we would just use the room Tanex gave me in the first place. At least I was pretty sure where that was… I hope.
“Um… I. Thanks from before. You didn’t have to do that, but thank you. I really am glad.” I said as we rounded another familiar corner in the maze of a castle, not being able to take the silence any more.
“Heh. Well, I am glad that you are happy, but I do not understand what you are talking about Nyx. What do you have to thank me about?”
“From—From before when you said that you are not going to take part in this battle personally. I really hoped that you would say that, and when you did I… well thank you Xerebus.”
“You are most welcome Nyx.” He said simply reaching out and taking my hand as we stopped in front of the room door.
I could feel my face heat up at the simple contact as feelings from long ago spring up inside of me. I stared up at him studying ever crease, every line. Though he hardly aged, those small creases made up quite a story and each held years of sorrow and pain. I reached up with my free hand to lightly touch the almost invisible lines, as if trying to brush them away or take them away into me. A cool hand covered my own in that instant and drew it down, as if knowing my thoughts and wanting to stop the act.
“Nyx?” His soft, gentle voice called out to me bringing my eyes back to his. Taking a step closer and letting go of my hand, which is now on the front part of his shoulder, and reaching to the side of us to open the forgotten door. Holding it open he nodded for me to enter first a coy smile plastered on his face.
Seeking refuge on the deep red velvet couch I watched as he closed the door and crossed the room to sit next to me. Then without much thought I moved closer to him and leaned in to rest my head on his arm, since he is too tall for me to rest my head on his shoulder. Adjusting to the movement of his arm, I felt it come around from behind and wrap around me and a sigh later everything started slipping out and we talked about everything. Questions from him, from me, funny occurrences, to silly mishaps from the past and now, then things turned serious; the dark parts of our past were brought out, tears were shed, feeling were felt all over again, along with new memories from the past and deep pain.
“What do we tell the others Ereb-Xerebus, I mean… RaXi… she…” The memory of her stern glare came back to me, and an aching feeling returned. Triskix, Lexian, Xemmsur, Tanex they least of all deserve to know what was going on, they’re family, but especially RaXi. I don’t know how many times she has saved me, and looked out for me. I do truly love him, if we can or cannot love I don’t care, I do love him so anyway. Yet if RaXi... and poor Aidex, what will she think of me.
“What’s wrong Nyx? You seem troubled.” He said reaching out to brush away a strand of hair and tuck it behind my ear. And when I didn’t say anything Xerebus turned to look down at me curled up semi on his lap now.
“Why don’t you tell RaXi, Nyx. She is someone really close to you and I think she should know from you personally, not in front of a bunch of people… Besides I am quite attached to my head. I wouldn’t want it to get bit off the next time I look at you again, and I do not care for the cold either I rather like the heat. Hn, a lot of things going against me Nyx.” Xerebus stated chuckling to himself at the last couple of sentences, and hearing him chuckle made me laugh too and then finally he was laughing also.
“I’ll wait here; Karonx or Serix will probably be arriving shortly to talk to me anyway.” He stated as I slowly stood up.
“Thank you. Please don’t go anywhere or let them go anywhere else. No one knows that you are here, and there are going to be many more coming back that still think you are the enemy. Also—”
“Nyx… don’t worry about it. I can handle things here; go find your apprentice and RaXi. Everything will be fine. I promise.” He said staring me in the eyes as if to show through his eyes that it was the truth. I truly didn’t want to leave him again, yet I needed to see Aidex and talk to RaXi.
“Thank you Xerebus; for so much.” I said reaching down to grab my cloak and, without fully realizing what I did until I stood up again, I placed my hand on his shoulder and leaned in to kiss him lightly on cheek. Then when I did stand back up face became beet red once again, fidgeting with my cloak I quickly said my goodbyes and left into a portal.
Focusing on finding where RaXi was, it wasn’t too hard to locate her since I had her presence to go by. Yet it wasn’t extremely easy in this castle it would be a lot better just to have our home back. Speaking of which when all this is done I wonder where Xerebus will go. Shaking that thought out of my head I quickly put on my cloak and made a portal to where RaXi, and thankfully Aidex, along with Xyta or is that Xyta along with Aidex, where too.
Smiling at them I saw Aidex turn first beaming with excitement at everything going on around her. I just hoped she would stay that way when I told her about Xerebus. He really didn’t mean to hurt those girls or RaXi, he was just so stressed and on the edge. He knows that, that doesn’t make an excuse for what he did, but he is greatly sorry.
“Mo—I mean… Master Nyx!”
“Aidex! Hehe, I am glad you are having fun. Training I see…” I commented looking past her to an approaching RaXi and an irritated Xyta standing in the background.
“Uh hu. Master RaXi came and—”
“I wanted to test Xyta, and Aidex wanted to come along. Why are you here Nyx? I thought you would be watching over that man?”
Smiling down to Aidex I nodded over to Xyta. She looked between RaXi and me before running over to an annoyed Xyta, probably because I interrupted her training… so much like her sensei. I just didn’t want Aidex and Xyta to know until necessary, especially since they are having so much fun right now.
“I-I was… I mean I am. I wanted to talk to you though RaXi, I was kinda hoping you where free for a minute. I would really like to talk to you, if you would let me.” I said hoping that RaXi wasn’t too frustrated at me to not talk to me.

And it was just like the sun
But more like the moon.
A light that can reach it all.
So now I'm branded for taking the fall.
So when you say forever,
Can't you see you've already captured me.
