“Now then Miss Xakiah I presume? Triskix's thoughts tell me that you are. Now then I have a few questions. One, why did you not leave when the others did? Two, who created that world which you described? And three, is Xerebus the one holding your leash?"
I wanted to tell him right then and there that NO ONE dares to demand so many questions at once and that I had no intention of revealing so much information in one sitting. However, after witnessing what he could do—or rather, WILL do—to his subordinates I knew better than to mess around with this fool. Oh well, so much for playing games…
"I didn't leave because I didn't want to. The others are boring," Xakiah answered, "And why would it matter who made the world? It's not like I know anyways. And finally no one and nothing holds my leash. Xerebus is the #1 and the leader but no one controls me."
"I see," the Leader's sharp voice answered, "So you are just a member of this new organization...another child. Fine then."
As I watched the others mobilize themselves for their rescue mission the thought racing through my mind was, “Child?” He dares to call me a “child?” He’s going to regret that.
I suppose I should’ve snapped out of that sooner because after doing so I recalled a few…obstacles that definitely would’ve proved difficult for them to handle. It’s not that I care for these fools; if they were to be eliminated now, how was I going to be entertained by their endeavors in the future?
“Is there anything else you would like to mention?” Ah…so the fool DOES realize that he just sentenced them to death. Why did he wait for now to ask that though?
“Because I got tired of having to listen to their complaints.” He mentioned something about being a telepath earlier. Ugh…what a pain… “One that you will have to get used to if you intend to stay here.
“I am not going to ask you again: is there anything else you would like to mention?”
“Oh, nothing much. It’s just that between this world and the World That Always Was is an intersection of Betwixt and Between that’s full of renegade nobodies and high-level heartless.”
My indifference to the situation visibly irritated him. “You call that ‘nothing?’”
“Why, yes; particularly because your…allies are capable of handling those things with some ‘minor’ difficulty. The castle itself, on the other hand, is much like Castle Oblivion. Only…it’s called Citadel Abyss, and it’s literally a living maze, always altering its inner structure to confuse intruders.”
I was about to tell him that his associates could exit the castle at any time just as easily as they came in when he used some of his power on me to bring me to my knees.
“Perfect—thanks to you, I now have to send in another rescue party to save the first one.”
Ignoring the effects of his…influence…I grinned and sent him one single thought that I swear made his full continence writhe even more: You’re Welcome. What can I say? Me and authoritarian figures…just don’t mesh well…
“Triskix! I leave this matter—and her—to you.” After saying that, he relinquished his grip on us and exited the premises.
“I don’t know which is worse,” began Triskix after a while. “Leaving me with a mess of incompetent nobodies in which to save (no surprise), or leaving me with an irritating witch.”
“No, no, no. Queen irritating witch. If I’m going to be anything in this universe, I might as well be the best.”
