Anime Central Update

New anime ahoy! Desbreko has created a thread for discussing the latest wave of shows that have begun airing on Japanese TV.

Spring Season 2008 Anime

Note that this is the first season ever to include two series (Blassreiter and The Tower of Druaga) that are being officially, legally subtitled and streamed on multiple sites on the same day that they air in Japan. So you might want to think about following them even if you're not a fansub kind of person.

Thread of the Week

This one may seem a little boring, but if you're a Trigun fan, you will no doubt want to visit our Trigun thread. With 473 posts and counting, it's currently our main area for all things Trigun.

Speaking of which, we have been thinking about creating forums specifically for anime franchises. At some point we will need to put together a proper poll at theOtaku.com, but for now, I might as well ask here: if you could see one series/franchise with its own dedicated forum, what would it be?

I also stumbled upon this little gem in the Anthology forum:

Poetry Contest - Everyone Welcome!

This is an incredibly cool thread where people of all skill levels can compete one-on-one in poetry "battles". Members vote to choose the winner and then the next round begins.

Anime Central Update

If you're starting to run out of Caramelldansen variations, these Abridged Series vids sound like a great time-killer. In Aceburner's words: "The basic premise is to take an anime, condense the episodes into 5-10 minutes and convey the basic idea through poking fun at the show a lot. This can be either extremely funny (i.e. Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged) or tragically misguided (i.e. most of the others)."

Let's Talk about Abridged Series

In other news, Code Geass is one of the latest shows to return to Japanese TV. Don't forget that it'll be making its Adult Swim debut later in the month, too. This is another thread that could use a more interesting subtitle... like Code Geass: Still Brought to You by Pizza Hut. Or perhaps Code Geass: Putting the LOL Back in Melodrama. At any rate, I'm looking forward to seeing which new spring series become OB hits.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Thread of the Week

Here we are again! We are a day late for this one, but unfortunately I have been interstate throughout the second half of last week. This made posting updates a little tough. Anyway, on with the show!

I've got a couple of threads I'd like to put forward as being especially notable this week:

Strange nicknames given and received and how did you get them?

It might have a mouthful of a title, but I think this is a pretty interesting thread. Apart from the fact that nicknames often have odd stories behind them, this thread also reveals the stories behind some of the more well-known member nicknames on OB.

I'll Keep You My Dirty Little SECRET...

Okay, so yeah, it has a dodgy title. Yet I found the subject of the thread to be pretty interesting. It's all about a site where you post your secrets.

I'd never heard of the site until now. This thread contains some interesting debate about the validity of such a site - admittedly, I do wonder what usefulness a secret-posting site has. On the other hand, if you can relate to other people's secrets, perhaps that's a good thing. I don't know. In any case, check it out!

Anime Central Update

Two anime threads--one quite old and one recent--have made a comeback after announcements about their series' respective returns to Japanese television.

Clannad
Slayers

The first post in that Slayers topic is from 2002. Now that's impressive. I guess I should get around to watching the original series at some point, huh? It's one of those shows I've heard so much about that sometimes I almost trick myself into thinking I've already watched it.
