OB member Lunar (AKA Heartkruez on theotaku) has a pretty nifty thread going on about Digital TV signals vs Analog ones. As of you may know, the TV stations will quit broadcasting in Analog waves on February 17th 2009 in the United States. This will effectively render all TV sets with antennae useless and all TV stations will go to broadcasting exclusively in Digital.
This brings up issues with a lot of Americans who currently own analog sets, who don't necessarily want to switch to digital TV signals. The government is offering support for people to buy converter boxes, but some people do not want to have their television signals regulated for them.
On a personal note, I see no problem with this move. We have to move forward as a society and changing to digital signals exclusively has been long overdue. Broadcasting in both signals takes up a lot of resources that could be better used elsewhere in order to make our television experience better.
What's your take on this? Should digital signals be used exclusively? Or should the government have no control on what people should use for television signals?
