Amber Pheonix

"Class, this is our newest student, Amber Pheonix. Amber, take off that hood and introduce yourself to the class." My new teacher put her hand on my back and gently pushed me forward. I took a deep breath and slowly pushed my hood off of my head and listened to the gasps as they caught sight of my red hair with its gold streaks. I was glad they were far enough away that they couldn't see my amber eyes, hence my name. As the whispers died down I took a deep breath.
"Hi, I'm Amber Pheonix. Yes, this is my real hair color, no, I can't dye it 'cuz I've tried and it doesn't work. I come from Ono, Pennsylvania and some of my hobbies are archery, reading, playing instruments, and carving wood." I quickly turned around to cast a pleading glance at my teacher who took the hint and started clapping.
"Well, let's give our newest student a big, warm welcome! Amber, if you need help finding your way around campus you can ask Mr. Cole Shifter for help." She pointed over to where a boy was quickly sketching in his notebook, when he heard his name, he looked up to reveal warm, friendly brown eyes. He waved for me to come over and sit with him and as I walked toward him I heard many people groaning, apparently Cole was a loner, just like me.
"Welcome to Cherry Grove." He wispered to me as I sat down next to him.
"Thanks." I wispered back, as he caught sight of my eyes, his mouth hung open for a few seconds as he studied them before he closed his mouth and turned back to skecting in his notebook. As I listened to Mrs. Thorne lecture us about the darker sides of the United States' history, I made a mental note to bring in my own notebook where I kept all of my crude sketches and my stories. The class seemed to drag on forever until the bell rang and I was whisked away to 2nd period when I found out that Cole Shifter was in my class again, when he saw me he waved me over to him and patted the empty chair next to him.
"So, we meet again." He smirked, "Sorry I didn't get to properly introduce myself in Mrs. Thorne's room. I'm Cole Wolf-Shifter. They always mess up my name for some reason." When a girl whith long black hair sat down on his other side he introduced her, "Amber, this is Circe, Circe, this is Amber."
"No way, like in the Greek Myths?" I asked in awe. She smiled and nodded.
"My parents are Mythology Professors so they named my brothers and I after some of their favorite heros, or in my case, villians. What about you? How did you get your name?" I shook my bangs out of my eyes so she could get a good look at them, "Wow, did your parents know that your eyes would turn amber when you got older?"
I shook my head, "I was born with amber eyes, but it didn't really matter. I was going to be named Amber after some old legend that my Grandfather knew and insisted that I be named after." She nodded and turned her attention to the door as a guy dressed entirely in black walked in and sat next to Circe.
"That's Zane, he's Circe's boyfriend." Cole whispered to me and they held hands under the table. I just nodded as I quickly looked away from their hands, they reminded me strongly of a different pair of hands, a pair that I'd never look across my table and see them hiding ever again...
I snapped back from my flashback to see Cole looking at me with his big brown eyes, "What's wrong?" He asked me, I shook my head and tried to tell him that I was fine, but I never got the chance.
