But what is Soul Eater?

In this world where some humans can turn into weapons, an academy for teaching these weapons and their meisters has become aware of a major problem; there is a giant demon (called a kishin in the anime and manga) beneath their beloved academy, the DWMA (Death Weapon Meister Academy)! When that demon awakens, and through a group of bad people, spreads its madness around, how are the students going to stop it??

In the anime Maka Albarn, the main protagionist, defeats the demon, but in the manga, she looses to it.
