Nino brought his cigarette up to his lips and mildly leaned on the wall of the building. The sun was already going down, but it didn’t seem to face the black haired ghost hunter who simply moved one leg back to rest on the wall as well. Rap music blasted from the ear buds of the mp3 player that was complacently at Nino’s side. Nino made no move to change his stance or adjust his music even as several street passers gave him somewhat of a harsh look. To those that passed, Nino appeared to be one of the overly ambitious young men who often caused more harm than good, and with that notion in mind, those that passed felt better to move as far away from him as they passed.
However, just as this seemed to be the overlying case, Nino noticed that directly across the street stood a man with his hands in his pockets staring directly at the young man who had just noticed. There was a moment that both men just stood and returned a half stare before Nino arched his head down and seemed to take more interest in the cracks of the cement than anything else. Almost in complete contrast to this motion, the man had started walking across the street directly towards Nino.
“Mr. Nightwalker,” the man addressed with a courteous notion. Nino brought up his eyes and viewed the man sharply for a solid moment.
“Nino, if you will,” Nino said with an air that reflected the ghost hunter’s cold nature. The man who had addressed instantly gave a nod and took a step forwards extending his hand as if for a sudden question of considerable courteous behavior. However, the latter of the two that had sudden started talking just turned his head away and looked off towards the sun that reflected off of his glasses that rested over his midnight hair. Retracting his hand after a moment, the man seemed to take a step back and look off to where Nino was looking. However, he saw nothing of importance in the sun’s fading and shook his head after a moment once again trying to resume the conversation.
“Alright, Mr. Nino,” the man said straitening his voice as one straightens their back. “My name is….”
“What case do you have?” Nino cut in as he returned his head to view the man. Cutting off completely, the man seemed to nod to himself.
“You are as cold as they say you are….” The man said nodding to himself as if he had confirmed some great secret of the world. Nino shook his head and resisted to speak the words that were coming to his own mind on the matter of the man.
“Speak, what case do you have?” Nino said again in more of a demanding format rather than an actual question. “If you lack a case, then I suggest you leave or I will have my friends hunt you down.”
The man seemed to turn a shade paler as he looked at Nino who reflected a dark look back. After a sudden cold moment of silence, the man nodded trying desperately to regain his stature.
“A town just north of here… recently has been… experiencing paranormal activity….” The man said trying to recuperate and failing due to the quiet stare that Nino was inflicting upon him. “Will you look into it?”
Nino felt a smile creep across his face but sudden and very violently repressed it. Leaning off the wall that had been his arch for nearly an hour already, Nino pulled the music out of his ears and stood fully. He was taller than the man before him and appeared more muscular in stature. Yet none could truly be sure on the matter for both men we wearing clothes that had a nasty habit of hiding any true forms.
“I’ll look into it,” Nino smirked turning so that the man got a solid view of his profile. Nino’s eyes slid back as he took a few steps forwards and remained half glued to the man before he finally lost sight of him. Retracting his eyes to before him, Nino shoved his hands in his pockets and proceeded to walk.
“Wait…. Don’t you need any info?” the man started, and yet Nino did not stop walking. Instead, he raised is right hand and gave a half wave backwards to the man.
“I already have all the info I need,” Nino answered back with his head still forwards. “Your ‘friend’ told me all about it.”
The man felt his head shoot around in confusion as to what Nino was talking about, and yet in that moment, he saw nothing. Just then, a scream escaped the man’s throat as he felt fingers on his shoulder.
