“What are you both doing here?” a female voice hit Nino’s ears sharply and his eyes moved straight up to the girl who had been hiding. His eyes latched onto the ghost floating just to the right of the girl, and in that moment he stood sharply. Suddenly, both girls started running away quickly. Not waiting for any other talk, Nino was already starting the chase.
“Wait! Leave them alone!” Ryuu yelled back at Nino, but it made no impression on the dark haired ghost hunter. Instead, he just doubled his efforts and caught up with the still living girl. Seizing her by her uniform collar, Nino pulled the girl back.
“Nami! RUN!” the girl yelled to the ghost who seemed suddenly transfixed by her friend’s frozen state. Nino said nothing but didn’t let go of the girl either.
“Mari!” the ghost yelled back. “Don’t you dare harm her!”
Nino stared at the ghost sharply, and his dark eyes seemed to leave nothing to be desired. The ghost girl, Nami stood frozen still but managed to take a step back.
“Why have no of you moved on?” Nino demanded in a dark voice.
Suddenly, Ryuu’s presence was felt directly behind Nino. The dark haired man’s eyes moved to the right to view Ryuu better.
“They didn’t even do anything to you. Leave them alone…” Ryuu said letting out a half breath.
“I’ll ask again,” Nino said looking directly at Nami. “Why have you yet to move onto the afterlife? There is no reasons for ghosts to remain in the world of the living.”
“Wh-what happened to Kari…..” the ghost girl, Nami, asked quietly.
“I sent her on her way of course,” Nino answered back. “As I said, there is no reason for ghosts to crawl amongst the living.”
“She… she’s not harmed….” Nami said somewhat confusing Nino as to who she meant. Believing that they were still on the subject of Kari, Nino nodded. The girl Nino was holding by the collar struggled to get free from his grip, and yet his fingers were tightened like a death grip. Ryuu seemed transfixed as to what to as he looked from both Nino and the girl to the ghost who only managed to reflect a look of anxiety back at him.
“She was not harmed,” Nino confirmed. “The spirit rail gun only fires spiritual projectiles that cause ghosts to leave this world and proceed to the next. Now, what are we going to do with you?” Nino’s eyes narrowed sharply causing Nami to back up as her eyes widened with the understanding that she could either run and leave, Mari, the girl that Nino was still holding or give in.
“I… I….” Nami said looking and trying to find comfort in the face of Ryuu.
“Just let them go already,” Ryuu tried again, but with that, Nino’s glare caused the boy to silence. They all stood there in perpetual silence. No sound was even escaped due to motion. It was completely and utterly silent. After what seemed like only a few more seconds but was actually much longer, Nino began talking once more.
“Tell me exactly why there are so many ghosts infesting this school,” Nino said coldly. Suddenly, the sounds of motion rang out into everyone’s ears.
“Ryuu! Hey is that you?!” a voice called out, and two girls seemed to turn the corner only to stop dead in their tracts. Nino gave them both a sharp look as if to dare them to try and interfere with the situation, and yet both of them seemed to be ready to jump into the notions.
“Just what in the world is going on?” the first one asked sharply looking around the entire group and then finally allowing her eyes to settle on the ghost girl who was still managing to grow even more pale than before as she debated what to do.
“Emi-…” Ryuu started but suddenly fell silent.
“Ryuu what is going on?” the girl addressed as Emi asked sharply as she continued to survey the entire scene once more. Nino shook his head sharply and kept one solid eye on the ghost at all times as his fingers tightened more and more around the girl’s shirt. Realizing that they were all projecting at least a bit of spiritual energy, Nino’s eyes narrowed more.
“You kids don’t belong here,” Nino said sharply. “You’re spiritual energy is in the cradle at best. All of you get out now, and I will get back to my own work.”
“Now hold on a sec,” the other girl started but was broken off by a glare that Nino gave off to her.
“Mari… I… I don’t know… what to do….” Nami said still transfixed only a few yards from where Nino was still holding Mari.
“I said just run!” Mari answered back, but the ghost just shook her yead back.
“What if he harms you!” she said sharply.
Nino seemed to break off what Mari was about to say as he gave her shirt collar a shake almost rattling her entire body at once.
“Let me go already!” Mari squirmed trying to pull away, and yet Nino’s grip was firm as a rock.
“I’m sure this… can all be worked out somehow….” The girl still known as Emi said walking towards Nino who only gave her a dark look back. “Hi… I’m Emiko and…”
“I don’t care who you are,” Nino retorted back sharply. “You’re just a weakling thinking that you can take on ghosts.”
“Will you shut up,” Emiko answered sharply glaring at Nino now. “I solve mysteries, and I want you to explain what you are doing.”
Nino found his face curl half into a smirk for a solid moment before it died and his face was blank again.
“You just told me to shut up, and yet you ask for information,” Nino retorted. “Which would you rather me do?”
This seemed to irritate Emiko, but suddenly, the other girl reached up and touched her shoulder.
“… Please tell us what’s going on…” the younger girl said looking at Nino.
Nino let out a breath as both of his eyes moved back to the ghost girl.
