Heartless

“Well you got the same orders as I did. Didn’t you?” Nino said aloud as he pulled out his gun and aimed it directly at the ghost in front of him. His cold hearted ways had already filled his blood, and he felt nothing towards the situation any longer than a sense of irritated apathy. “Now it’s time for you to pass on,” Nino stated to the Nami who only seemed to reflect a look of fear back at him.

Just as Nino was about to pull the trigger, Ryuu had moved directly in the way and had taken a hit straight through his eye. Nino felt his eyes widen for a sharp second before they narrowed again as the boy fell backwards and clung to his eye. You little…..Nino’s thoughts conveyed his irritation on the matter, and yet he would not show it to any of the others present if he could chose it. A sudden scream escaped the younger of the two girls, and the elder, known still to Nino as Emiko had placed a hand on her shoulder quickly as if to silence her.

“Damn it.” Ryuu groaned to himself as he clasped his eye. Nino made no motion to help or do any harm for that matter. Instead, he just reflected with a look of blankness on the others. It appeared as though Emiko was about to say something, and yet once again she caught the sharpness of Nino’s eye that conveyed the message that if she entered this, she would be shot as well. Taking a step back, Emiko seemed to just revert to leering straight at Nino.

“Are you all right?” Nami asked with her voice shaking as she looked at Ryuu. However, he didn’t answer this question half causing Nino to move his head as if to shake it in agitation.

“Why do you put your life in danger for someone who is already dead?” Nino asked with ice gleaming in his voice as he continued to leer down at Ryuu.

“They have just as much of a right to be here as we do, Nino.” Ryuu answered, and in that moment, Nino made a mental note not to tell people his name as often. Indeed it caused too much trouble and seemed to add a personal side of the conflict that Nino felt was unwise to bring about. However, just as Nino was about to consider this measure a few moments longer, Ryuu seemed to have suddenly puffed up and slowly got up.

“AND THAT DOESN’T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO JUST SEND THEM AWAY IF THEY DON’T WANT TO GO.” Ryuu shouted as he learned back at Nino who only reflected a somber cold look back.

“You see this is exactly what I was talking about when I said you can’t control your spiritual pressure.” Nino answered feeling a smirk start to curl across his face. However, after a split second, he killed the smirk. It was not good to show any true emotion on the matters at hand. It would add too much extra to the hate.

“And I told you I can control it.” Ryuu shouted back, and Nino half stared somewhat tired of Ryuu talking or rather shouting “Now let her go!” Ryuu demanded sharply. Nino let out a breath and found his eye moving back to Mari who was reflecting a look of agitation as well as torment back at him. However, this glance was only for a split second before Nino’s eye returned back to the boy who was yelling at him.

“You really are quite annoying.” Nino stated calmly feeling the conversation willingness in him screaming in its death bead. He was tired of talk and tired of these children disrupting his work.

“Ryuu don’t do it.” Emiko shouted at Ryuu, and in that moment, Nino felt a calm respect towards Emiko grow inside himself. She at least knew when to back down, and yet this annoying boy did not. Nino’s eyes narrowed farther, and he was all but giving Ryuu a full death glare now.

Just in that half second, Ryuu in his own convictions ran straight towards Nino and tried to seize the girl that still remained tightly in Nino’s grip. However, Nino, the far more developed of the adversaries simply beat Ryuu back against a wall coldly. Nino kept his entire visage cold and reflected a somewhat tender annoying that was building in him of this Ryuu. He lacks strength that is for sure…..Came to Nino’s mind calmly as he watched the boy sudden moan a bit. But he seems to try and make up for it with brute will…. Interesting….. however, annoying at this time.

“RYUU!” Emiko and her young comrade shouted in a chorus of pure hearted unison. Nino did not look at their faces but imagined them to reflect looks of stressed pain.

“I’m fine.” Ryuu breathed as he forced himself to rise from where Nino had knocked him to the ground.

“Kid don’t be an idiot and try that ridiculous stunt again.” Nino stated coldly as he looked straight into Ryuu’s face. Don’t play hero in a heroless world…. You’ll only end up dead.

“I guess I’m an idiot then.” Ryuu answered, and with that, he managed to bring forth a spiritual whip in his hand. It was not as well designed as the gun that Nino carried, but it was indeed a spiritual weapon. There was half moment that Nino considered whether or not to actually applaud this effort, and yet the second the moment registered, it was murdered violently in Nino’s mind.

“Nami get away from here I don’t want anything to happen to you.” Ryuu said sharply as he addressed the ghost. Nino felt his eyes narrow wondering if the ghost would honestly heed to this desire.

“No I’m not leaving.” The ghost answered back sharply. Her voice vibrated with fear, and yet she stood strong.

Once again, Nino caught the eye of Emiko who seemed to be ready to jump in the fight, and after a prolonged sharp stare, Emiko stepped back and returned to glaring. The young girl next to Emiko seemed to only continue to pale at watching this strange fight unfold, but before Nino could continue this observation, Ryuu’s voice shot forth again as he tried once more to make the ghost girl leave.

“Please Nami I promise I won’t let anything happen to her.” Ryuu pleaded, and finally the ghost seemed to adhere. Nino’s eyes shot sharply to the ghost as she looked at Ryuu and gave a half smile.

“You better not break that promise.” Nami answered back before turning sharply and running down the hallway and seeming to evaporate into the rest of the school A sharp huff came from inside Nino’s throat, and a spur of anger started to move through him. This was just getting ridiculous.

Aiming his gun once more at the ghost as she started to fade, Nino pulled the trigger sharply. Just as the bullet was headed towards the ghost, Ryuu jumped right in front of the bullet yet again and took the hit. His spiritual energy fluctuated and cause a twitch to run through Nino’s stomach. If he keeps getting shot… his spirit is gonna leave his body sooner or later due to the spiritual pressure….Nino thought to himself as his eyes narrowed even more.

Sighing to himself, Nino released the girl sharply and threw her somewhat to the side into the wall. She seemed to flinch for a moment before half relaxing where she was. Ryuu seemed to cough as he tried desperately to catch his breath. You fool…. Nino glared at him.

“Fine if it’s a fight you want then I’ll just kick your ass,” Nino threatened sharply, and suddenly moving his gun to the right, Nino extended his spiritual pressure, and the gun morphed into a sharp black sword. “An adept shaman can use his spiritual pressure to morph objects into more useful design,” Nino said darkly. “You can barely master a spiritual whip…. You’re weak.”

“Don’t hurt him! PLEASE!” a childish voice screamed out, and as Nino closed the distance that had accumulated between him and Ryuu, the young girl from before had suddenly moved straight between them. “Please… don’t… harm him… please…..” the girl seemed to plead desperately at Nino who only reflected a dark look back at her.

“Ya quit already!” Emiko’s voice seemed to roar with the conviction that she had been building up sharply as she had been leering at him.

“Get out of my way,” Nino said as he glared sharply at the little girl who had stopped him in his path towards Ryuu.

“Please…. Please…. Please….” The little girl answered back.

“Aisling…” Emiko said quietly before taking her own step forwards and standing now between e and the young girl just named. “If you even think of hurting them, I’ll kick your ass!” Emiko threatened sharply.

“More annoying children,” Nino answered back but made no motion to proceed further.

“Please… please don’t harm us… please….” The girl now named as Aisling begged from behind Emiko.

“But…” Emiko said sharply. However, by then Ryuu had brushed past her.

“I’m sorry… just let me do this…” Ryuu answered back. “I can do this… I know I can.”

“Come then,” Nino glared back as he held his sword directly in front of him and leered sharply at Ryuu who reflected the leer perfectly. A strange mix of fear and something else seemed to escape from Aisling as she tried once again to get between the two men.

“Aisling move….” Ryuu said sharply.

“Please… don’t do this… can’t we work together?” the young girl seemed to beg, and yet Ryuu seemed to shake his head.

“Indeed, morons need to be put in their place every once in a while,” Nino concurred which caused Ryuu’s eyes to move up sharply as he leered at Nino. Both men stood approximately five feet from one another, but in that space, both men surged forwards at once. A scream rang out, and an angry yell followed.

“DAMN IT YOU TWO!” Emiko’s voice roared even as the vibrations of sound that had been caused by the blade crashing into the whip came through the air sharply.

Both men stared each other in the eyes caustically as dark blue reflected at another set of blue eyes. The base of the blade just as it met the hilt was standing up right and crossed with the finger sections of the whip. A breath escaped Ryuu, and yet there was no sound that had left Nino. Instead, with a sudden shove forwards, Nino pushed Ryuu directly back and then forced him straight backwards onto the floor. Nino placed his sword directly at Ryuu’s throat and glared down at him sharply.

Suddenly, the blade itself seemed to be forced back, and Nino’s sharp gaze moved to Emiko who seemed to be trying desperately to move Nino away from Ryuu with a weak form of telekinesis. Complying mostly out of stature, Nino backed away, and the two girls who had been brushed by before once again moved to fill the space that had just been provided.

“Ryuu!” the younger girl’s voice called out sharply as she looked down at him. However, Ryuu was already looking past her and was glaring as best he could at Nino who still only stood a few feet away at most.

“Ryuu you idiot!” Emiko’s voice seemed more worried than in a version of controlled criticism. The redheaded girl suddenly turned her head sharply to Nino and returned to glaring. “that’s enough…..” Nino just stared back expressionless at most.

“Guys… let me do this,” Ryuu said causing Nino’s eyes to brush past the face of Emiko and to Ryuu as he forced himself to stand once again.

“Ryuu….” Emiko stated after a moment.

“Urg….” A voice said from behind, and Nino’s eyes shifted around as he viewed Mari starting to force herself up. Nino shook his head a bit, and slowly, his sword re-morphed back into a gun.

“You kids aren’t even worth my time,” Nino said taking a step to the right and then starting away down the hall. “Get out before you get hurt. You’re all useless babies.”

“STOP!” Ryuu’s voice had suddenly moved sharply and carried a deadly tone. “I won’t let you get away with this….”

“Ryuu… just…” Emiko started.

“No I won’t have it! I don’t care if I get hurt!” Ryuu yelled back.

“Will you shut up and listen to me! He just beat you already!” Emiko yelled at Ryuu.

A dark laugh escaped Nino causing everyone to suddenly fall silent. “Indeed,” Nino commented harshly. “He is a weakling… you best be careful and hold his collar tight, Miss Emiko.”

“Why you!” Ryuu yelled sharply as he tried to brush passed Emiko who had seized him by the shoulder.

Nino just kept walking down the hall sharply.

“DON’T YOU DARE HARM ANYONE!” Ryuu’s yell echoed down the hallway but did not seem to faze the dark haired man who continued down the hall.

Just as he turned down a somewhat quieter hall, Ryuu found that someone was following him. Turning his head sharply to the young girl who seemed to suddenly jump at being noticed and try to hide herself, Nino gave a blank stare.

“I know you’re there….” Nino said darkly. “Come out.”

“S-sorry….p-please don’t hurt me….” A voice said as the form of the young girl from before appeared out from behind a corner. She looked as though she could possibly be the younger sister of Emiko with her bright red hair, but after a moment, Nino dismissed the entire notion completely.

“And you are?” Nino said darkly as he looked down at the girl who seemed to be obviously regretting following him.

“I… just… thank you for not hurting him….” The girl said after a moment.

Nino blinked once, and then nodded his head calmly.

“Indeed,” he answered turning once again as if to walk away.

“Wait! … Please…” the young girl suddenly said causing Nino to turn around once more as his eyes stared darkly at her form. “Wh-why did you hurt… the…. Them…”

Nino said nothing for a solid moment as his eyes once again made a general sweep of the girl. She could be no older than twelve or thirteen, and yet she had the strange amount of courage to talk to him after she had already witnessed what he had done to that fool Ryuu. Either she has a lot of courage or is just a complete fool. Nino shook his head as he stared back at her.

“I harmed no one,” Nino answered back as he turned around once more trying to walk away again.

“But then,” the girl asked causing Nino to stop and resist the urge to roll his eyes. “Why did you send the spirits on….”

“Were you not paying attention?” Nino snapped sharply causing the young girl to jump. “They do not belong in the world of the living. The second their bodies die, they should feel no more attachment to the world.”

“Oh….” The girl seemed to answered back as she lowered her eyes. “But….”

“And you children with your powers in the cradle at best think that you have the skill and willingness to deal with these spirits. It’s atrocious,” Nino spat sharply. Feeling a sudden need, Nino took out a cigarette and started lighting it. The second the smoke and nicotine hit the back of his throat, Nino started to feel better. The agitation had started to leave his form, and for a split second, Nino mentally kicked himself for showing so much emotion. It was a sickening thing when one trains to purge himself of all useless traits and finds that there are still more and more to behold. Shaking his head, he looked directly into the young girl’s face once more.

However, the girl just seemed to stare back half stunned at the fact that Nino had been so harsh to her. After another moment, Nino took the cigarette that he had placed in his mouth out of said hole in face and breathed out.

“Did… did something happen to you?” the girl asked after a moment. “All the people that can see ghosts that I’ve met… are… nice…. And….”

Nino shook his head feeling a dry distaste for the girl’s implications.

“ Nothing happened to me,” Nino answered back sharply causing the girl to suddenly pale and turn her eyes away.

“S…sorry…” the girl answered back.

“You’re all just weak and don’t even know what you’re doing,” Nino stated sharply as he placed the cigarette back in his mouth. “Go back to your friends and leave me alone,” he ordered as he turned around once more starting down the hallway. “Next time I catch you following me, you won’t get off so easy, kid.”
