Confrontations

"Dang it, Ryuu," I hissed at him. His injuries were pretty severe. I helped him to his feet and walked him into the headquarters. "What were you thinking? That guy is half your size. I thought I had taught you better than that." He had made me look like a fool.

Actually, I corrected myself, I had done that all on my own. For whatever reason, I had been unable to step in earlier. Nino's blatant glares my way had stopped me dead in my tracks. No one had ever been able to make me stand down. And calling me a kid? I was an adult, thank you very much. I had been out of high school for two years.

Sighing, I turned and found Aisling gone. "You can be such an idiot," I snapped at Ryuu as I sat him in a chair and got him a bag of ice for his head. He had to have a major headache, so I grabbed some pain killers I had thought to bring and threw the bottle to him.

"Sorry, but you should know by now that when something isn't right, I have to step in," he retorted.

I knelt in front of him, my features going soft, if only for the moment. "You know the spirits can't stay on this side. They have to move on. Would you want to be stuck here?" I told him. He stayed quiet. "Sure, Nino's methods aren't anything like ours. He is quite harsh, actually. But, he gets the job done. It's why we are here."

I stood up, not giving him a chance to say anything back. Aisling returned to the room and I told her to stay with Ryuu. I was going to go have a talk with this Nino character. I wasn't about to let him get away with what he had done to Ryuu.

Finally, I found him. "Hey," I called out harshly as I stormed to his side. "I don't know who you think you are-" I jabbed my finger in his direction, "But, I don't think you have any right coming in here and messing our assignment up."

"You seem to be able to handle that on your own," he retorted with a shrug.

I frowned. "Look, we do things our way, you do your thing your way. No need to go insulting us, as we have not done that to you. We may look young, but I assure you, I am leading one the best of the best here. I have been out of high school for two years. I know what I am doing," I informed him.

He stared down at me, and I was aware of how much taller he was than I.He was quite a character; so closed off to the world; so distant to everyone. In a way, he reminded me of myself.
