~Mari~
I clenched my fists. Damn that guy had been irritating. How dare he just grab me like that? Oh, well. I’m just glad that Nami's safe. Though something that guy had said kept flashing through my mind. “Mari!” I turned to see Nami running toward me. She practically tackled me to the ground, and hugged me. “Mari I’m so glad you’re alright!”
I hugged her back and grinned, “of course I’m alright! Who do you think I am?” She smiled and moved back, so I had a chance to sit up. Suddenly, I turned serious. “Nami. Why don’t you want to move on?”
She looked at me confused. “It’s because we’re friends,” she smiled. “You were always so lonely, and so was I. I didn’t like seeing you sad, so I wanted to make you happy,” she told me. “I’d always thought of moving on, until I met you. Now I couldn’t imagine leaving you all alone again.”
I looked down, so I wouldn’t have to look her in the eyes, “so it’s my fault?” I was the reason she wouldn’t move on? “You don’t want to move on… because of me?” I whispered. “Am I the only thing keeping you here?” She looked at me, totally confused.
In that moment, I made a decision. I let the tears fall freely down my face. “Nami, do you promise you won’t ever forget me?”
Misunderstanding what I meant, she nodded. “Of course I’ll never forget you! We’re best friends, and we always will be,” she grabbed my hand, and held it tight.
“Best friends,” I whispered to myself. A best friend wouldn’t let her stay like this. I clenched her hand hard, and looked up into her eyes, “Goodbye… Nami.”
Her eyes widened in shock, “Mari? Wha?” With my free hand, I lightly put two fingers to her forehead, and released some of my spiritual pressure into her. “Mari!? No! Please!” I had never seen a ghost cry before, but tears were freely flowing down Nami’s cheeks. She tried to cling to me, “Mari!”
I closed my eyes, and kept telling myself that I was doing the right thing. “Nami, I’ll miss you. You’ll always be my best friend,” I told her.
My words seemed to have a calming effect on her. She smiled, “I’m going now Mari.” She lightly stroked my cheek, before disappearing completely.
I sat there for a while, just letting myself cry, “Nami.”
