“Then let us get to work,” Matsu smiled lightly back at his dark haired partner who only seemed to close his eyes for a solid second before opening them and nodding to himself. Both them turned and started down the hallway yet again, but it was only in a matter of a few steps that the sound of feet echoing in the hallway caught their attention.
“Not a ghost, and not a demon,” Nino said darkly.
“What would a normal human be doing up at this hour,” Matsu said quietly as he looked down at the watch that reflected the time to be approximately three in the morning back at him. However, just at that moment, a girl with dark curled hair seemed to turn the corner and get extremely agitated at the notion in front of her.
.
"Move it," the girl hissed darkly reflected a look of sheer agitation back at the dark haired man who reflected nothing more than a dark look of nothingness that often reflected in his soul. The girl appeared to be ready to brush straight past them, and yet on a second notion, the girl stopped completely and seemed to address Matsu. The light haired man simply kept a complacent look as he worked his own thoughts as to why this human was here. "Wait, Do you know Emiko Suihara?" the girl asked quickly, and suddenly, Nino felt his face move to a sharp scowl. However, Matsu in the exact opposite was now desperately forcing back a laugh that was working its way inside him.
However, suddenly the girl grew pale and seemed to tighten. Nino’s sharp eyes caught the remnants of a soul moving into a body. His muscles tightened considerably at the sight of a possession, and one dark eye looked to the right meeting one yellow eye. The girl seemed to tense more and more as though she were trying to force the spirit back out of her, but both men before her believed that a normal human would lack enough strength to force the spirit from her. Nino’s eyes narrowed as he waited for full possession. If he tried to rip the soul straight out of the girl at that point, it would only force both souls in the body outwards and in the end effectively slay the girl. Matsu on the other hand was just waiting patiently for Nino to take in his own convictions before proceeding forwards.
Just as the spirit seemed to take full grasp, the sharp dark haired main aimed his gun directly the girl’s head and pulled the trigger. The sudden explosion of spiritual energy that unfolded from Nino made him wearier than usual. He had been using too much manna to begin with, and if this was going to keep up, he would need Matsu’s help to sustain him. The girl let out a half scream as a soul seemed to jut straight out of her back. Nino felt himself kneel forwards a bit, but the white haired partner was already taken forwards and seized the dark haired girl by the hand. The light haired man’s eyes narrowed as he quickly began to try and synthesize the actual soul to the body once more. Indeed it was true for any good exorcism that one must either mangle and defeat the body or use spiritual pressure to force both souls out. However, with spiritual pressure, there was always the case and place that the original host’s soul would be forced out as well. What must follow was what the light haired Matsu was doing now as he quickly used his own manna to act as glue and synthesizing the soul back to the body. It was an instantaneous process, but it left the light haired man somewhat weary himself now. Yet he made no show of it as he pulled the girl towards him and carefully began to lower her to the ground.
“You’re going to be a bit tired for a while,” Matsu sighed to himself looking back at the dark haired girl who was starting to go from a look of shock to a more complacent visage. After a moment, she closed her eyes completely and relaxed leaning on Matsu’s bent knees.
“That was annoying,” Nino said aloud, but just as he said this, someone burst through the door behind, and Nino felt a spiritual pressure come raining down on him as the boy known as Ryuu came crashing into him. Backing up quickly, Ryuu appeared to see what he had caused and tried desperately to force a laugh from his body. It turned out to come somewhat more cracked than the light hearted laugh that Matsu always managed to produce, and in the end it did nothing but cause Nino’s eyes to narrow considerably as he stared back.
“Ha hi Nino.” Ryuu laughed once more as he moved considerably away. Nino just reflected a blank look but was actually feeling somewhat weary still. Matsu’s eyes which had previously been on his dark haired patient were now moved up to the gray haired man who was standing before him.
“I take it this is him?” Matsu made a light comment as he directed his index finger at Ryuu. Both men both light and dark registered the comments that they had been making beforehand about the Ryuu now standing before them. Matsu’s eyes were already working across the face of the said Ryuu as he tried to determine what measure would make Nino not want to proceeed forwards.
“Yes.” Nino answered back once again finding himself use as little words as possible. There was no real use in words besides to convey the message that both men knew just by looking at Ryuu.
“What did you mean that my father is one of the Seven Demon Lords?” Ryuu asked sharply as he looked back at Nino with a strange fire in his eyes. Nino said nothing for a full second before breathing out. This was going to be a long morning to say the least. However, this comment that Ryuu had suddenly brought to the table was starting to make him annoyed.
“I never said that out loud.” Nino said back trying to keep the edge from his voice and inherently failing in the end. How the hell did he know that Nino’s thoughts were sharp in his own mind, and suddenly Ryuu seemed to react as if to some unseen stimuli. The gray haired Ryuu pulled at his hair quickly and seemed to echo back.
“I don’t know.” Ryuu shouted back at Nino, and it took a full moment for the dark haired man to take in that the boy had just reacted to his internal question. “Why didn’t you kill me Nino?” Nino’s eyes narrowed even more.
“My father is Yuki Asa, Snow born at dawn. You wanted to know his name didn’t you?” Ryuu continued as his voice almost seemed to break. Nino’s eyes reflected a dark light suddenly at hearing the name, and yet it meant nothing to him at that point in time. The boy yelling at him seemed to pose the most of the mess.
“Hey just relax, Ryuu. You’re so confused and frustrated right now you’re shaking.” Matsu said gently as he had now moved from his strange sitting position up to a standing one. The girl that had been sharply exorcized seemed to leave a strange feeling in the pit of the light haired man’s stomach, and yet he would not think on it now but would rather speak on behalf of Ryuu. However, it seemed that Ryuu had picked out somewhat of the edge in Matsu’s voice caused only by the worry for the dark haired girl and had taken it now into his own company.
Nino felt his eyes roll somewhat tired of it all and wanting to get the job completely done. Yet Ryuu persisted as though he would never cease. There were questions that Ryuu had, and yet Nino knew to himself that he would not be the one to answer for them.
“Wouldn’t you be a bit confused if you found out that your father was a Demon Lord?” Ryuu shouted aloud causing Matsu’s yellow eyes to shoot directly at Nino’s.
Both men stared for a solid second before Ryuu had seized Nino by the collar. The dark haired man made no gesture to change position of force Ryuu back. This emotion had to be spent in the end, and Nino preferred to get it done here before it caused any more serious troubles.
“Just how would you feel if your mother and father died on impact in a car crash only three months ago and then finding out that your father is a demon and your mother is nowhere to be seen?” Ryuu shouted, and his eyes reflected a look back that Nino could not at that point match. Instead, Nino took a hold of Ryuu’s wrists and forced the boy to let go. However, the boy didn’t just let go but started to completely fold over as well. Holding onto Ryuu’s arms and carefully bringing him to the floor, Nino let out a half sigh.
“So much excitement, no?” Matsu sighed to himself, and for the first time, Nino saw that his partner was reflecting a look of pain. The light haired man had worked his way back to the floor and was now propping up the dark haired girl once more. “I can see why you’ve gotten tired already… so much blunt emotion,” Matsu continued. “But I also see why you refuse to kill him.”
Nino felt his eyes move sharply up to Matsu’s and for a moment, both men narrowed their eyes towards each other. Yet this action was killed in its cradle as the sound of yet more footsteps seemed to echo in. Worried voices mixed with newer ones, yet both men remained completely silently. Matsu felt a smile recurl its way upon his face for a full second as he looked back at Nino who had resumed a somewhat pained scowl.
“He’s like you were,” Matsu said aloud with a half laugh to himself. Suddenly, the light haired man’s eyes caught the reflection of light in the window. His eyes dropped down back to the watch at his wrist, and a smile perked pore on the light haired man’s face. “Time goes fast, no? Nino?” Looking up, Matsu found that his dark haired companion had risen with Ryuu laying complacently on his back. “Are you attempting kidnapping, Nino?” Matsu smiled to himself as he stared at the dark haired man.
“No,” Nino answered back. “We don’t need another mouth to feed.”
This brought a sharp laugh out of the light haired man, and he had seized his ribs sharply trying to hold back more laughter that was radiating from him at that point. After a few more seconds, the sound of running feet continued closer and closer. Matsu turned his head as he viewed the group that had started through. Emiko, head as always, seemed to be leading this strange mob towards them.
“Hello, hello, Miss Emiko,” Matsu smiled remembering the sudden chime that he would use for a long time that followed. Nino said nothing but moved his shoulder a bit as the sleeping Ryuu moved his own head and fumbled around in his sleep.
