What's going on?

~Mari~

I saw a movement out of the corner of my eye, and turned to look at it. I just managed to get a glimpse of someone running down the hall. I felt like I should follow them. I quickly glanced at Kaki, who was staring at Matsu with fascination, as if he recognised him. I shrugged and left him there as I followed the figure.

It seemed like I had been walking for ages, but I knew it couldn’t have been more than five minutes. I didn’t get it. This was my school, so how could I be lost? I looked around and noticed that everything looked different. It was then I realised that I wasn’t even in my school anymore. The walls were cracked and grey, the lockers were gone. Doors were creaking, while the doors to other rooms had completely fallen off. Vines were growing and wrapping around everything, there were large spider webs everywhere I looked. I could hear shrieking and crying, as if people were calling for help. I wrapped my arms around myself, as if I thought that would protect me.

I contemplated going back, but I decided against it. I had already come this far, I only wished I had Kaki with me. I noticed a light at the end of the hall, and walked towards it. As I got closer, the shrieking and crying stopped, and it was eerily quiet. I stopped in my tracks, too scared to go any closer. The light seemed to flash brightly and surrounded me. I shielded my eyes from the flash. When I opened them again, I was in a small white room.

A woman was sitting there, screaming. Her hair was the same soft blond colour as mine, and when I looked up, I saw she had emerald green eyes. “Give me back my baby! Give her back to me!” she cried out, banging on the locked doors. I watched her, unable to look away. “Please give her back! If you don’t, he’ll try to kill her again!” she collapsed into herself.

“Madam,” I heard a voice on the opposite side of the door say. “You are obviously very upset about the death of your husband, I understand that. But no one tried to kill your daughter, you were just imagining that. Don’t worry, we’ve put her into an orphanage, she’ll be fine there.” The voice explained to her.

The woman curled up on the ground, “he’s not dead. He tried to kill my baby.” She started to cry harder. “He’s not dead” she repeated to herself over and over. “He’s not dead.” I felt like I wanted to comfort her. I reached out towards her, but I was pulled away by a strong force.

When I looked around, I was in the same room. But what I saw there made me scream. The woman from earlier was lying in a pool of blood. I looked beside her, and saw a note. Trembling, I picked it up. “He’s not dead. I’ve told you that a thousand times, yet you don’t believe me. I just want to protect my baby, but you won’t even let me see the sun. So I promise you, I will come back for my girl, and to take that man’s life.” I read the note aloud. I took a step back and I felt like someone was watching me.

I turned around to see the woman in a white dress, stained with blood, smiling at me. “My baby,” she smiled warmly and reached out to grab my face. I had never been scared of ghosts before, but now I was terrified. I screamed, covered my ears with my hands, and closed my eyes.

When I opened them again, I was back in the school hallway. I was breathing heavily, and had to lean against a locker. What was all that about? I tried to take a step forward, but my legs felt like jelly. I fell to the ground and stayed there for a while, trying to calm myself down.

When I was sure I was alright, I stood back up. I saw another movement out of the corner of my eye, and jumped. I looked down to see a cat sitting there. It meowed and rubbed against my leg. I sighed, why was I so jumpy? The cat seemed to be watching me. “Hey little guy,” I bent down to pat it. It stared at my hand for a second, and then bit me before running off. I shook my hand quickly, “Ouch! That hurts!” I looked down to examine my hand, and saw that it was bleeding. “Stupid cat!” I groaned.

I looked at my hand again, and my eyes widened in shock. The bite marks were gone. But that wasn’t the weirdest part. The blood had made some sort of weird symbol on my hand. It almost looked like writing, but I had never seen that language before. I looked in the direction the cat had run off in. Should I follow it? I shook my head. No, I wanted to get back with the others everything was too creepy. I walked back in the direction I came from. I saw the others and waved, “Hey guys. I’m Ba-” All of a sudden the room started to spin. I heard someone call out my name as I lost consciousness.
