~Mari~
"Is he gone?" Kaki asked as he looked around for the boy who had just been chasing us.
"Good riddance!"I huffed. "Hey Aisling. Do you know what that brat did?"
"What?" she asked.
"He tried to lock us up in the morgue!" I growled inwardly. That had scared the hell out of me.
"Oh..."
"I don't think I'll sleep easily tonight or tomorrow night..." I groaned and rubbed my temples. Kaki looked confused, and I guessed he didn’t really know what a morgue was.
Aisling looked over at the dark haired boy who had been chased with us."Hi, how are you?" she smiled. "Are you the other ghost hunter?"
"Huh?" he looked at her blankly. "Ah yes, I'm Aiba."
"He was the one that got us out of...that place," I shuddered thinking about the dark, creepy morgue.
"Since there's no ghost I don't see a reason to stick around," The boy named Aiba said. "Well...later then." I watched as he left, and realised I hadn’t properly thanked him. Oh, well. If he was a ghost hunter, I was sure to see him again.
"Wow what a day," I heard Aisling whisper. She looked at her watch and smiled, "Come on guys. It's Ryuu's birthday today and I need to do last minute shopping."
I shook my head, “I don’t think we were invited. Besides, there’s something I want to do.” I looked up at Kaki, “Do you want to go with Aisling?” He shook his head. “Alright then, we’ll see you later!” I waved to Aisling and grabbed Kaki’s hand. “Come on.”
“Ok then. See you later!” Aisling smiled and waved back.
“Mari. Where are we going?” Kaki asked me after we had been walking for a while.
I kept looking straight ahead, “The hospital.”
I glanced up at him to see that he looked confused, “But we just left the hospital.”
“It’s a different hospital,” I explained. I didn’t say anything for the rest of the walk, I was too nervous to talk. I stopped in front of the white building, and took a deep breath. It was now or never. “I let go of Kaki’s hand, “Will you be ok to wait here for a couple of minutes?”
He looked hurt, “But...”
“It’s ok,” I told him. “I’ll only be gone for a minute. I know, you can stay in the waiting room.” If they have one, I added in my head.
“Welcome,” a woman in a white uniform smiled as we walked through the doors. “Are you here to visit someone?”
“Sit,” I whispered to Kaki and pointed to a chair. He nodded and went to sit down. I turned back towards the woman, “Uhh... I’m not really here to visit.” She looked a little confused. “I want to ask a few questions about a woman who was here a while ago.”
“Are you a relative?” she asked.
“Daughter,” I told her.
She nodded, “Name?”
I blinked. Name? “My name’s Mari.”
She laughed, “I meant you’re mother’s name.”
“...I don’t know,” I looked away.
She looked a little worried about that, “I’m sorry, but if you don’t have a name...”
“She died,” I cut her off. “She committed suicide here.”
“Oh,” that had caught her off guard. “Please wait a moment.” She walked around the corner, and came back a few seconds later with a man who I guessed was a doctor.
They were whispering together, and when the doctor looked up and saw me, he smiled. “Ah, you must be Elizabetha’s daughter,” he held out his hand and I shook it.
“Elizabetha... Was that her name?” I asked him.
“Yes,” he nodded. “You’re the spitting image of her.”
I asked him a few questions about my mother, and he responded as best he could. I didn’t learn much. She had been very unhappy here. During the day she would scream, and at night she would cry. The same routine went on every day until she died. When I was all out of questions I smiled, “Thank you for taking the time to speak to me.”
“It was my pleasure,” he smiled back.
“Mari,” I heard Kaki whine.
I looked at the clock and saw that we’d been talking longer than I’d thought. “Thanks again,” I waved to the doctor as Kaki and I left the hospital. A piece of paper fell in front of me and I picked it up.
“Tsk, tsk, little one.
You’re too curious for your own good.
The fun has just begun.
Just as it should.”
I read the letter aloud. “Bad rhyme,” I muttered to myself and tucked the paper into my pocket.
