Birthday

-Emiko-
Walking back to Ryuu's, I just enjoyed the peacefulness that was nature. I closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath. We were passing a park full of screaming, giggling children. I grimaced with one girls shrill scream... if you could call that a scream.

"So, who do you think is going to even show up?" I asked Ryuu suddenly, teasing.

He glanced up at me, shaking his head, "Well, since I am so popular, I'll bet we have a full house."

I smirked. "Kara will have her work cut out for her, making all that food. Good thing she likes cooking. I could never enjoy it." I shook my head. I hated cooking, and I was horrible at it.

"Don't forget Elle is helping her," Ryuu reminded me. "Besides, the only reason you don't enjoy it is because you eat it all before you have the chance to bake anything." He tickled in around my waist, forcing me to jump forward; it was my most ticklish spot.

I shrugged, a smile now in full bloom upon my lips. "I can't help it when the food is begging to be eaten. Besides, even when I don't eat the ingredients, I can't cook to save my life. Remember that one time? The one where we were stuck up in the mountains because of that false sighting of a ghost in that cabin?" That had not been fun in the least. We had had the whole cabin to live in to ourselves, and I had gotten the great idea to cook.

Ryuu cringed, "I had hoped no one would ever bring that up again. I thought a monster had attacked the kitchen, no joke. It tasted even worse. It kept popping and making weird noises."

I grimaced as well. "Hey, I warned you that I was no good. I never had to cook back home."

"That was obvious," Ryuu agreed.

I smirked and punched him on the arm, which of course, he had to retaliate. Once we had settled down, I smiled over at him. Ryuu, smiling back at me, grabbed my hand, and we walked hand in hand back to the house.

-Elle-
Takara led me into the kitchen and set me to work right away. I was in charge of all of the pastries and dough. I needed to mix and mead and watch them as I put them in the oven.

Ryuu's sister was nice enough. Maybe too nice, but it was a nice change compared to dealing with Miss Emotional Emiko all the time. Our relationship had changed slightly. We had been brought a little closer, even if neither of us would admit it.

The back door opened and Ryuu and Emiko stumbled in together, laughing. Before they disappeared upstairs into Ryuu's room, I noticed that they were holding hands. They were mixing business and pleasure. Daddy always told me that was a no-no.

"Them two sure are getting along better than normal," Takara noticed.

I turned my attention back to what I was supposed to be doing. "Ya." I mumbled.

Takara stopped and came over to my side, helping me. "Emiko never mentioned you at all. How are you related?"

"Did Emiko ever mention family? Ever?" I asked her. Her family never mentioned her. It was like she had never been born to them. They had erased all thought of her.

"Well, I suppose not," Takara nodded, understanding.

"We are cousins. Though, the family will no longer recognize her. It's best to let her enjoy her life the way it is now, here with Ryuu than to bring up questions of the past." I was truly envious of her. She had created such a niche for herself. She found a place where she belonged. A place with Ryuu.
