Fear of Perdition

In the kitchen Aisling sat down at the table with a troubled look on her face. Aine poured cold water into a frosted glass and handed it to Aisling. Aisling slowly drink and sat in silence.

“Aisling,” Aine said. “How many times has it happened today?”

Aisling looked up and stared at her grandmother. “Only two…Nana this is scaring me. I feel like I might actually die sooner or later.”

Aine shook her head, “You won’t actually be dead. When a soul’s connection to the body is severed from the body the person can still live in a manner of speaking. As long as the organs like the heart and brain are functioning properly. You never seen any one go on living without a soul did you?”

Aisling shook her head.

“It’s quite a sad thing to see,’ Aine murmured looking solemn. “If someone literally lost their soul they act like zombies. They walk slowly and their movements disoriented. They can work and eat but that’s because the body and brain remembers from experiences…” Aine paused. It looked like talking about it was difficult for her but she continued. “They can talk but their like tape recorders or parrots they only repeat what they heard or remember…You know they say artisans that made master pieces put a bit of their souls into their work but imagine when an artist loss their souls what would happen?...When they try to create something it might look pretty but when you look closely you’ll only see emptyness.”

After Aine was done with the lecture she looked at Aisling and saw that she was grasping the glass very tightly and her features were trembling.

“Will…that happen to me…?” Aisling whispered staring up at Aine with wide eyes.

Aine answered in a gentle tone. “Only if your will power fails.”

Aisling stared at her and slowly nodded. “Okay…when can we start training?”

“Tonight would be perfect. Mari and Kaki will be training with you in combat practice but first you must go under a spiritual quest.”

Aine clapped her hands, “Now then after dinner we’ll discuss training. You go join Mari and Kaki in the living room.”

Aisling nodded and left the kitchen.

In the living room Mari and Kaki were sitting on the larg comfy sofa watching TV. Kaki was sitting next to Mari and looked like he was about to fall asleep.

“Hey Aisling,” Mari greeted her. “Aine said that you out with Emiko. Did you have fun?”

“Uh yeah…” replied Aisling sitting on the arm chair next to the sofa.

Time seemed to move agonizing slow to Aisling. She wanted to start with the spiritual training so she wouldn’t worry about her soul leaving her again. Then as it was almost getting dark it was dinner time and Aine had prepared a small feast for them.

“It’s so good to cook again,” Aine said happily. “Angels do not need human food so we don’t cook but I really enjoy cooking.” She sang as she passed out plates laden food.

Aisling ate and realized how much she missed her grandmother’s cooking. It was surprising that her cooking skills haven’t change over the years.

Aisling was about have seconds when she sensed someone with a strong aura approaching the house, “Nana?”

“I know dear,” Aine said looking in the direction of the front door. There was a slight frown appeared on her face. She got up from her chair, “Stay here,” She told them and left the dining room.

She knew there was no way a demon could have enter the property without breaking the barrier she would have notice after they took their first step in the grounds. Not even a moratorium could have pass through the barrier. The presence was strong so it must be one of the Vessels. She didn’t recognize the presence so it had to be one of the other Vessles.

She frowned. ‘What did the shamans want from here?’ She concluded that it must have something to do with Aisling.

“Word gets around fast,” She said to herself. In a blink of an eye her appearacne changed. She was not in her granny disquise but her true form.

Aine walked over to the front door after hearing the person outside knocked.

She opened the door and found a young man with red hair who looked around sixteen but she knew he was older than that. She smiled at him but her eyes peered at him shrewdly. “Good evening,” Aine said keeping one hand on the door and place her other hand on her hip. “Can I help you?”
