Why are hospitals so hard to navigate?

~Edaniel

I looked in one window after another to see sleeping patients. The rare nurses gave me strange looks. "Damn! There are too many spirit energies here! I can't sense her's!"

"Don't worry master!" said my most loyal spirit. It was a girl with dark hair, red cat eyes, black cat ears and a tail, only about my chest height, though she looked about 14, who followed after me, invisible to all but those with higher amounts of spirit energy than normal humans. "You'll find her!" A nurse walked by, and she quickly sped up her pace when she passed me. "...But maybe you should wait until morning. Then people won't freak out when they see you! And you can ask someone!"

"Well, what the hell am I supposed to do until then?" I growled.

"Sleep!" she said like it was obvious. "You said so yourself that you were tired from casting that protective spell over your house!"

"Where?! I'll be even stranger if I fall asleep in the waiting room!" I was getting rather annoyed now.

"No, silly! Outside!" she giggled. My eye twitched slightly as I listened to the rain coming down. Finally, I sighed.

"Fine, I sleep in that little side place. Maybe there's a little dry place..." As I reached the door, she poofed away, since she didn't like rain. I made a run outside for the alley, and quickly found a place behind this horribly smelly bin. ((i.e. dumpster xD. Rest in peace hobo demon! *shot*))

So I sat with my legs crossed, my eyes closed. I let out a deep breath and relaxed my whole body. And so I stayed that way for a long time.

~-+-~

I opened my eyes as the sun shone in on me. Not enjoying the sudden bright light, I backed away out of the dumpster. Stretching my stiff, almost human body, I started toward the hospital entrance. People on the street gave me weird looks, but mostly ignored me as I walked into the hospital. Once inside, I went up to the woman behind the desk.

"I'm here to see Sephira." I told her. She gave me a strange look. "Are you family?" she asked.

"Um, yeah. I'm her brother." I lied. Probably only family visits since she's passed out. The nurse checked some papers, then lead me down the hall.

"Well, she's not quite awake yet as far as me know. She doesn't have many physical wounds, just a sprained ankle. The doctors said she's just sleeping, probably just went too far on a hurt foot and tired herself out. Strange, though, I've never seen such a healthy person so tired." She explained. When I thought she was going to talk my ear off, we reached the door. Opening it, she let me in, and followed after.

It's strange. I have watched this girl for so long, I've planned it all out: How I would kill her and take her summoning powers, steal that jewel and examine its strange power. But now... I looked down at the sleeping body and didn't feel the usual longing for her power. Instead, I saw a girl, sleeping peacefully, innocent and comfortable, though she had no clue that she had someone standing in the room, ready to take away her life. There was only one thing strange: Her smile. I had viewed her fighting, but never once did she stop smiling. Even when she was in extreme pain. But now her face was crinkled the wrong way, into a face that expressed sadness. It seemed like tears would start rolling any second. A nightmare, most likely. A sudden beeping interrupted my thoughts, and I released a breath I didn't realize I was holding.

"I'll leave you with her. They need me in another room." The nurse turned and left, closing the door behind her. Looking back at the sleeping blond, I moved the hair out of her face, revealing the gem and tattoos engraved in her forehead.

"Damn human body..." I muttered. The spirit from last night floated in front of my face.

"I don't think its your temporary humaness!" she giggled. "I don't think you ever looked at her when she wasn't fighter, master!"

"Are you suggesting that I may actually have feeling for her?" My sharp glare burrowed through her.

"N-no sir!" she said nervously, rubbing the back of her head. "J-just saying that you're not use to seeing her like this!" Nodding, I looked past the spirit to Sephira. I guess the dream had ended, because her face was calm now, with no emotion.

The clock ticked away in a corner. 9:30. She had fallen over at about 8:00 last night. So she probably would wake up any mome-

My thought was cut off when a movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. Sephira had stirred, and she blinked her eyes open. Rubbing them, her smile quickly returned. The spirit disappeared just in time, as Sephira looked over at me.

"Oh, hi!" she said. Looking around, she sighed. "A hospital. Great. Another something to pay for."

"Uh..." I said, lost for words. Great! I had missed an easy chance. While she was out, I could have summoned a spirit to take her out! I had ones in my arsenal that could kill her without leaving a mark, so no one would be able to trace it to the guy that walked in and was there when she died! Now it would be too difficult, she would attack me before I could even scratch her.

"Hm? You're not a doctor. Do I know you?" she asked. I could tell she was questioning whether she had a case of amnesia or not.

"Um, no. I'm Edaniel." I could see her puzzlement.

"A Daniel?" she asked.

"No. Eh-daniel. One word. E-D-A-N-I-E-L." I spelled it out for her. She tried saying it a few times, and finding herself unsuccessful, she gave a big smile.

"How 'bout just Daniel?" she said.

"Like that guy from the Bible? Hell no!" I said. That was the one thing I hated, was people calling me that idiot who got throne in a pit with lions because he was an idiot that didn't comply. Stupid angels shouldn't have saved him. A guy will learn!

"Dan?"

"No."

"El?"

"No."

"Fine, how about just E? Like the letter!" No duh, E is a letter! Sighing, I gave in.

"I guess..."

"Yay! E-kun!"

"Who said you could call me kun?!" I asked. She acted like I was already a friend!

"Well, you let me call you a nick name, and you're obviously kind enough to give your time to a girl you don't even know!" Not kind. Not even near that. Plus, I knew her well enough from watching her fight. "You can call me Sephira. Or, since I get to call you E, you get to call me S!"

"I think I'll stick with Sephi-"

"Call me S!" she huffed. It was almost comical.

"Fine. S it is."

"Cool! We sound like secret agents!" I sweat dropped. Man, she wasn't as mature as I thought she would be.

"So, aren't you gonna ask?" she said, sitting on her legs, hands on legs, leaning over in my face. I backed up.

"A-ask what?" I said nervously.

"About my jewel?" she said. Ah. I already knew about it, but I guess I could let her babble. "I think you'll believe me. You're a summoner too, huh?" she said.

"Uh yeah. So what is that jewel about?" I said. She started to go into a explanation on what it did, and about the Greek gods, and how some people just call them powerful spirits.

"So what can you summon?" she asked.

"Uh, well. I can summon Dark Spirits..." I started.

"Cool! Show me one!" she said. Sighing, I hardly had to even think about bring out my usual spirit.

"Hi!" said the girl.

"AW! She's so cute! What's her name?" I looked at both of them. Name? I didn't name the spirits I used.

"Uh... she doesn't have o-"

"WHAT?!" Sephira gasped. "Well, do you have a name for yourself?" she no longer addressed me, but the spirit.

"Well, not really... Master says I don't need one," she explained shyly.

"Hmm... How about Kit? Like, short for Kitty!" I nearly face palmed. What a dumb name! No way she would like-

"Wow! I like it!" The spirit twirled around. So "Kit" came back to me and hung on my shoulder.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Kit disappeared. "Come in!" called Seph- I mean S. I knew that girl well enough that she would get mad if I forgot her nickname. The door creaked open.

xD He can be shy, but around people he knows or thinks he knows, he a bit louder, with a bit anger issues.

Someone continue? I figured somebody would come check on her. Edanial *cough*hobo*cough* will probably stay rather quiet.
