Forgiving is the Hardest Part

“Thank you Lady Ariana,” Christian murmured as he put his hands on the young priestess’ shoulders, “for preventing Mr. Nino from shooting me with his spirit gun.”

“It was nothing.” Ariana smiled at her butler as Aisling asked Kuro if he knew Áine. “After all, what would I do without you?”

They were distracted when Kuro told Aisling that her grandmother had been the one to rip out his wings. Ariana and Christian exchanged knowing looks while Aisling looked stunned.

“Becoming and Arch angel without consent is that serious of a crime? Huh, and I thought when I was younger that angels were nice.” Smiling at memories of a past time, Ariana watched as Aisling made her way over to her. Brant followed while Puck, ever so stubborn, stayed behind.

The Earth Guardian twisted her fingers nervously. “Um…I wanted to say sorry. I am very sorry for the way I acted the other day.” Bright green eyes filled with uncertainty met dark honey gold orbs.

Should she forgive Aisling and Puck? While it was true that her curse had taken over, should they have acted so callous? She was an angel and he was a Tarot Card spirit! They should be familiar with those kinds of things. But then again, this was her curse they were talking about…

Doubt and pain flickered in her eyes as she looked at Aisling. Her words sounded strangled, as if they had trouble escaping her throat. “I—I forgive—” Aisling saw her eyes flash blood red for a moment. “I don’t.”

Christian put his arms around his mistress’s shoulders comfortingly. Ariana’s tension eased, her eyes melted back into dark honey gold and, victorious in today’s inner battle, she looked at Aisling. “I…I forgive you; and I forgive Puck as well, even if he won’t admit it. Besides, I’m the one who’s cursed.”

Aisling’s mouth fell into an ‘O’ formation. “I thought you were possessed by a demon,” she whispered so that no one else could hear. Brant looked at Ariana but didn’t say anything.

“I was possessed by my curse.” She hugged her knees to her chest, “It’s complicated.” She looked up at Brant and smiled, “Hi Brant.”

The Knight of Swords had a little smile while he nodded and looked at Christian warily.

“He’s with me. Don’t worry.”

“Can you read his mind?” Aisling asked.

“No, I can’t, although I think he and Puck have a telepathic link. I just observe him and try to figure out what’s on his mind. Christian and I do the same thing,” Ariana tilted her head up and looked at her demon butler.

Brant had a inquiring expression on his face.

“I’m fine Brant.” Her heart wasn’t hurting that much anymore.

Puck looks hot as a human and Brant as a human looks seriously cool. That is all.
