Slowly, everyone trickled into the kitchen to see what they could eat. I smiled as I handed out the plates and we all took a seat at Ryuu's giant table. Good thing I had added the leaves to the table, otherwise, we might not have fit everyone.
I took a seat next to Ryuu and snatched some food off his plate before I grabbed a bowl and took some before passing it on. When there was food on everyone's plate, we dug in silently.
I still couldn't get over the fact that Kuro was back in my life, sitting across from me. I doubted I'd be getting used to it any time soon, either. But, as long as he was here, I didn't care. I sighed, happily.
Sure, we may have been stranded in some alternate world, but we were all together, save a few faces. But, I felt like we were all just one giant family. I hadn't felt like a part of a real family for a long time.
I thought of Elle, and I wondered what she'd do when she met Kuro again. Ryuu say me dazing off into space and elbowed me gently in the side. "You okay?" he asked. "What are you thinking about?"
I smiled. "Just thinking about how Elle will react when she sees Kuro when we get back."
Kuro looked up, a reminiscing smile on his face.
"She thought the world of Kuro, and she took it really hard when he died. I think it's one of the reasons she resented me so much," I admitted, feeling guilty again.
Kuro nudged me in the leg with his foot under the table as if telling me I wasn't allowed to feel guilty. I sent him a warm smile and shook my head, getting rid of such thoughts. I needed to only think about today and the wonderful people I was surrounded by, not the ghosts of the past. Nothing good ever came of looking back, anyway.
