Trials

“My name is Sai and this is my brother Kai. We will be your opponents,” The man with long orange hair, pulled back, bowed slightly.

“We were told not to go easy on our opponents, but I didn’t think that we would have to face off against Lord Asa’a son,” The man with short, spikey, slate colored hair commented putting his hands behind his back.

“Don’t hold back you two other wise you’ll never reach your goal, and you’ll die,” Sai smiled at us and materialized a staff in his hands and Kai materialized a katana in his hands.

I grinned. "Who said anything about holding back?" I grinned as I formed a spirit weapon in my hands. It was getting easier. Hardly gave me any trouble at all. It still wasn't a very powerful gun, but it would do the trick nonetheless.

"Don't underestimate them, Emiko," Ryuu warned. "If they are servants of my father, they will surely be powerful."

"Just don't get dead," I told him with a smirk. "You take one, I take one?" I suggested rushing forward and shooting my gun at Sai, but he was quick and used his staff to block the bullet.

I shot off two more rounds, but he managed to block both. Growing frustrated, I shot three more times. Sai blocked them all, and before I had a moment to try something else, he ricocheted one of the bullets back towards me, and it hit me in my left arm.

The pain was immense, but was of my own stupidity. Cursing myself and my obvious carelessness, I made my gun disappear and I called forth a katana. It was small, but very sharp. I rushed forward and swung at Sai with all my might, but he blocked my attack and kicked me down to the ground.

I felt like it would have been better if Elle and Asa had actually trained us a bit more before throwing us into these trials. I could have benefited from learning something new. Sai and Kai were clearly trained very well. Asa was a skilled demon lord. And I had no formal training other than the little I had done with Nino.

Sai swept his staff at me, and I grabbed the end, using it to do a roundhouse kick to his chest. I hit him, but he managed to flip off onto his feet a few feet away from me. "You have to think. You can't do this how you would have months ago. Think and analyze your moves carefully."

I glanced over at Ryuu hoping he was doing better than I was.
