A Word on Chang Wufei

This started as something silly I put together for my Introduction, a little "About Wufei" piece, but it got to be so long that I thought it should be it's own post.

Gundam Wing is one of the most misinterpreted animes I have ever seen. Croik tells it best, but I would at least like to discuss, very briefly, a few aspects of Wufei that I personally picked up. Note that this is all just opinion. Yours may be different, and that is okay! I mean, your opinion should have evidence that you can backup, but just note that this is not an attack. This is just something I put together for fun. I went back and added the quotes because I thought it would be cool, and it was a lot of fun for me.

* * * * *

"It's up to me. I'll define my own justice!" "Now then, Earth. Show me your true idea of justice."
He never says the word "injustice." I watched the series. He says the word "justice" a few times. He seems to say it more in Episode Zero, but I will have to check that. It seems his wife was the one who really spoke of justice. More importantly: He may be loud and obnoxious, but he is generally rational.

"Nataku, I've got no right to pilot you! But for now I'm asking you to lend me your strength!"
Wufei questions everything, including himself. We relate on this matter, and that is why I cosplay as him.

"I don't kill bleeding hearts or women."
He does not hate women. He simply does not think they should fight. He doesn't think he should be fighting, either, but he does it because he feels he has to. After all, he never tells Sally Po she's weak because she's a woman. He just tells her that she and her whole group are too weak to fight the enemy.

"I do not accept to Relena Peacecraft’s ways. Her belief that peace is attained by throwing away weapons and confining soldiers is wrong!"
He lives in his own head, which is constantly aspin with inner conflict. He runs around by himself and doesn't always seem to notice (or perhaps care) what the other pilots are doing.

Sally Po: "You saved my life yesterday!"
Wufei: "Because you people are weak."

He tells people exactly what he thinks of them, sometimes screaming and hollering and carrying on all by his lonesome self. He tends to blow a lot of hot air, and doesn't strike me as the best judge of character. Certainly, he is not entirely within his right to be that irritatingly loud. One site pegged him as a hypocrite, and I am inclined to agree. He has a reason for being the way he is, but he is one nonetheless.

AND LASTLY

Duo:"How about Wufei? Did he just become a Mariemaia soldier with the idea of blocking their plans?"
|
Heero: "The more you fight, the more sacrifice for peace becomes a waste. You must have realized that. The war we fought is over!"
Wufei: "So are you saying that soldiers who know nothing but how to fight get discarded?"
Heero: Soldiers have fought to attain a sense of peace! Believe in the world we live in today!"
Wufei: "I’m acting for the people who were used as weapons! I’m fighting on behalf of all soldiers, including yourself!"

But our group knows the truth of the matter: Wufei joined Mariemaia in order to save the world from bad credit! (Okay so maybe I made that up.)

The following are the lyrics to the song in the video on the front page. I welcome a better translation.

Anime Lyrics dot Com

FLASH BACK! Shining winds
FLASH BACK! Blow across the earth
DON'T STOP! There's no turning back
DON'T STOP! No one can stop it

Risking the pride known only to myself
I live toying along with life

More than the dream in front of our eyes
We pursue the dangerous game
We are knocking on the door
to a faraway tomorrow

FLASH BACK! For whom
FLASH BACK! Does the world turn
DON'T STOP! There is no answer
DON'T STOP! So let's go searching

In the night where solitude alone surround me
Let's count the stars till morning

The burning flame
Tinges the eyes red
Gleaming with silver wings
I pursue dreams

My heart is struck by the wind called freedom
Faster than light
Fly to the sky oh yeah!

More than the dream in front of our eyes
We pursue the dangerous game
We are knocking on the door
to a faraway tomorrow

End
