Legendary PKMN of the Week 6

Yes, it’s once again that time of the week. It’s time for another post about one of my favorite Legendary Pokemon. Last week I talked about the shadowy yet misunderstood Darkrai. So this week I’ll be talking about Darkrai’s opposite number, the Lunar Pokemon, Cresselia.

As the anti-Darkrai, Cresselia has the power to dispel the nightmares Darkrai causes and replace them with pleasant dreams. Cresselia also seems to despise Darkrai with a passion, as whenever the two meet up Cresselia chases after Darkrai like a dog chasing a cat. This never really made sense to me, because Cresselia is a Psychic-type and Darkrai is a Dark-type. Meaning that Cresselia would be at a definite disadvantage in battle. But then again since it’s said that Darkrai doesn’t intend to cause any harm (usually), it may prefer not to fight Cresselia.

Anyway, Cresselia also seems to have the power to heal the psychological scars of those who look at her. In short, Cresselia is essentially a healing Pokemon. And when she isn’t fighting off Darkrai, Cresselia is quite gentle. You’ve probably noticed that I’ve referred to Cresselia as “she” quite a few times now. That’s because Cresselia is known to be a female only species, but being a Legendary Pokemon she can’t be used for breeding purposes.

Hangout: In Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Cresselia can be found on Full Moon Island, opposite Darkrai’s home on New Moon Island. But just because you can find Cresselia on Full Moon Island, doesn’t mean you can catch her there. Once Cresselia is encountered on Full Moon Island, she runs off. That is because Cresselia is what as commonly known as a Roaming Pokemon. As a Roaming Pokemon, Cresselia hides out on the routes of Sinnoh with the common wild Pokemon, and when she’s encountered in battle she flees.

Roaming Pokemon were first introduced during the time of Gold, Silver, and Crystal, and to this day they continue to be a pain to catch. In order to capture a Roaming Pokemon, one has to chase it all over its home region and then try and keep it from fleeing long enough to weaken it and capture it in a Pokeball. In the days of generation two this was a whole lot easier, as using a move like Hypnosis would keep them from running away for a few turns at least. But from Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and onward, Roaming Pokemon have been able to run away even when a move like Hypnosis is used (which makes no sense!).

So nowadays the only ways to keep a Roaming Pokemon from running off is to use a Pokemon with the abilities Shadow Tag or Arena Trap, or moves like Mean Look. Of course those tactics won’t work too well on two certain Roaming Pokemon, but that’s for another post. The bottom line though is that it takes a lot of time and energy to capture a Roaming Pokemon (unless you use a Master Ball). Getting back to Cresselia herself, she can be found in the upcoming Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 games as a stationary Legendary Pokemon on the Marvelous Bridge. But to get her to come there you first need to get the Lunar Wing from the ghost of the girl who supposedly died on the Marvelous Bridge (spooky).

Signature Move: Being one of the more powerful Legendaries, Cresselia has her own signature move in the form of Lunar Dance. Being the signature move of a healing Legendary Pokemon, Lunar Dance is not an offensive move. Rather it allows Cresselia to sacrifice herself to heal an ally. This can actually come in real handy in the right situations. For example if the key Pokemon in your strategy gets too banged up to use, Lunar Dance can bring it back to full strength.

The Perfect Match: I’m not sure if this has ever occurred to anyone before, but it seems that Cresselia would be the perfect Pokemon for one of the most iconic heroes in anime history. Rather than just name her, I’ll just show her in the image below, as I’m sure everyone knows who she is.

Incidentally I made that wallpaper a couple of years ago. Anyway, a character that’s actually from the Pokemon franchise that would also be perfect for Cersselia would be Nurse Joy (one of them). I mean Cresselia is a healing Pokemon, plus there has been a Nurse Joy who used a Legendary Pokemon before (Latias).

So that wraps it up for this week. I already have the Legendary Pokemon for next week picked out. As for what Pokemon it is, you will know… in time. That was a hint by the way. Until next week then.
