Pokemon Jukebox! - Westerly and Northerly Towns

Today I've decided to take music from a spin-off game, one which I have been playing almost nonstop recently. Pokemon Rumble Blast is what I like to call "Pokemon turned into mindless entertainment", which is by no means a bad thing, it's just different. It's Pokemon with button-mashing! BUTTON-MASHING! My Mew, I love it!

You know what else this game has? Frickin AWESOME music. Let's take a look at two of my favorites. AWAAAAAAAAAAAAY~

Perhaps when this game gets a little older, I'll be able to dedicate an entire post to just one song, but as of right now, no one has really done any fan remixes, and the songs have (obviously) not been used outside their games. Both are shames, because these pieces of music are absolutely amazing.

Our first piece is Westerly Town's theme. Westerly Town is the third town in the game, where you go to track down Cobalion, who has been stealing the Toy Pokemon's source of energy, the Glowdrops. Yes, I know it sounds stupid. Just listen to the music.

If you didn't just start jamming out, I'm not sure what's wrong with you. This music perfectly captures the desert atmosphere of Westerly Town. It's fun and fast (daaaaamn, dat bass guitar), but the flute gives it a sort of melancholy air over top of the busy guitar jamming. I remember first stepping into Westerly Town and spazzing. May I say again? DAAAAAAAAMN, dat bass guitar! I also love the main melody from the flute. It's short and sweet, but you want to hear it over and over again. This is a song I don't mind having on repeat.

The other song I'm going to discuss is Northerly Town's theme. Northerly Town is the fourth town in the game, but your circumstances for arriving are nowhere near as good. After a fight with Cobalion, your Wonder Key, the device that makes it possible for Toy Pokemon to move, is bent, and you're basically without hope. And then you hear this music.

Heh, I bet you were expecting something uplifting, right? :D

But anyway, you know how I said that when I stepped into Westerly Town for the first time, I spazzed? Well, when I showed up here for the first time, I more than spazzed. I think I died. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever heard in a Pokemon game. I wish I was able to find remixes for this, because this is a song that definitely deserves its own post. Listening to it, I BELIEVE (could be wrong) that this entire piece can be played by a single person on the piano. You know what that means? :D (grabs her piano)

But let's talk about the song itself. I love piano pieces, and this one captures the dramatic, melancholy atmosphere of just being defeated and thrown into an isolated, frozen little town bereft of Glowdrops. However, the section at :33 begins to sound more hopeful and bright, though still keeping the dramatic atmosphere. Usually I hate when pieces switch from primarily minor to primarily major chords, but this piece does it really well, keeping major chords almost entirely out of the first half, but keeping in minor chords every now and then in the major section. ...hopefully that didn't go over anyone's head, I never know how much music terminology to use...Uh, major means happy sounding and minor means sad sounding, yay~! XD

Well, hopefully the next time I want to do a Pokemon Rumble Blast song, there will be remixes up, so I can focus in more detail on this game's amazing soundtrack. Til then, ciao~!
