Legendary PKMN of the Week 13

Wait a minute, two Legendary Pokemon of the Week posts in the same week? Right now a few of you are probably thinking, “Did Darkarax bump his head and think a whole week has past?” Nope, the reason there are two posts this week is because of the recent episodes of the Black and White anime that mark Giovanni’s big comeback. And since the Pokemon featured in this post played such a big role in those episodes along side the Kami Trio, I’m doing sort of a bonus post this week. So presenting another new favorite of mine, and one of Generation Five’s Event Legendary Pokemon, Meloetta.

Meloatta is another Legendary Pokemon that has an unknown gender, but one has to assume that it’s a female Pokemon from appearance. Anyway, the songs and dance of Meloetta has inspired the works of musicians, artists, and dancers for many years. In the distant past, Meloetta once knew a joyful tune that inspired her to dance. But when the world was engulfed by the sorrow of war and death, Meloetta became depressed and forgot the melody. She apparently also lost a pair of red shoes that she used to wear. Being an Event Legendary Pokemon, Meloetta has no hangout in the games where she can be found and captured, so I’m going to skip ahead to the next part of the post.

Signature Move: The signature move of Meloetta is the very song that she used to dance to in the distant past before sorrow came to the world, Relic Song. Unlike most signature moves, Meloetta does not learn Relic Song by leveling up. Instead it has to be taught to her, or rather reminded of, by a minstrel that hangs out in a café. Relic Song has the power to put the opponent to sleep, but its main use is to switch Meloetta from her Aria Form to her Pirouette Form. In Pirouette Form, Meloetta’s type changes from Normal/Psychic to Normal/Fighting, which can be helpful if Meloetta is facing a Dark-type.

Role In the Anime: This next bit is pretty much a spoiler for the Black and White anime, so a few of you might want to skip this part. In Giovanni’s latest evil plot, known as Operation Tempest, Meloetta is targeted in order to obtain the Reveal Glass that can change the Kami Trio to their Therian Forms. Giovanni manages to capture Meloetta and takes her to an underwater temple. Once there, she’s more or less strapped to an alter in the temple forced to sing so that her voice can raise the temple and unlock the Reveal Glass. But in the end, Ash and his friends managed to stop Giovanni, return the Kami Trio to normal, and free Meloetta. Meanwhile, Giovanni manages to escape. For more information, consult my previous posts on Giovanni, and the Kami Trio.

So that (for real) wraps it up for this week. Next week I really will be talking about another Legendary Pokemon from Generation Five. And it’s another Event Legendary Pokemon. Here’s a hint, think cyborg. Until then, stay tuned.
