We’ve once again come to that time of the week. And this week’s post has been split into two parts. One week from today, the fifteenth Pokemon movie is going to air on Cartoon Network. So in preparation of that I’ll be covering three, or I should say four, of the Legendary Pokemon that played a major role in that movie. Presenting the three founding members of the Swords of Justice, Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion.
I have to say, out of all Unova Region’s Legendary Pokemon, this group is easily some of my top favorites. One of the big reasons for this is because they’re based off of the Three Musketeers.
- Cobalion = Athos
- Terrakion = Porthos
- Virizion = Aramis
I’ve never read the actual book, but I have seen a movie version of The Three Musketeers that I’m quite fond of (plus a movie version of The Man In the Iron Mask). Anyway, in the distant past, the Swords of Justice fought against humans to protect the homes of innocent Pokemon from being destroyed. As a result, this band of Pokemon has a very strong dislike, or at least mistrust, of the human race.
Hangout: As one might expect, each member of this band has their own individual hangout in the games, and the locations of these change between the original Black/White versions and their sequels. I’ll of course start with the original versions first. In Black and White, Cobalion has to be captured before the other two can be. To find Cobalion, the player has to go to a part of Mistralton Cave known as the Guidance Chamber. Once Cobalion is caught, the other two hangouts are unlocked. The second member of the trio, Terrakion, is found in a special part of Victory Road known as the Trial Chamber. So despite being the second member of the trio, it’ll likely be the last one you can catch. Finally, Virizion can be captured in a hidden area of Pinwheel Forest known as Rumination Field.
In Black 2 and White 2, the three founders of the Swords of Justice have moved. This is probably due to the mass climate change in Unova that takes place between versions that is most likely the cause of a certain legendary dragon. And when one considers the plot of the next movie, this location change seems quite fitting. Anyway, in Black 2/White 2, Cobalion can be found on Route 15, Terrakion can be found on Route 22, and Virizion can be found on Route 11. Also, should any of the three accidentally be defeated instead of captured, they’ll reappear in the same locations after defeating the Elite Four. Only instead of being at level forty-five like before, they’ll be at level sixty-five.
Signature Move: Being part of the same band of Pokemon, all the members of the Swords of Justice share the same signature move, Sacred Sword. Sacred Sword is a Fighting-type move that does the same amount of damage despite any boosts to the opponent’s Defense or evasion. The evasion thing is certainly a plus for me. I hate it when attacks keep missing. Anyway, before anyone asks how the members of the Swords of Justice can use swords if their quadrupeds, the swords in this case are horns that they extend from their foreheads.
Movie Role: So I’ve mentioned that the members of the Swords of Justice play a huge role in the fifteenth movie, so this next part may be a little bit of a spoiler. In this film, the Swords of Justice come into conflict with the legendary dragon, Kyurem, who they had apparently fought once before in the past. The youngest member of the group (who I’ll get to in a bit) picks a fight with Kyurem and the others have to come and save him. The three elder members end up getting trapped and Kyurem goes a rampage. And as you might guess, Ash and his friends have to help stop Kyurem.
That covers part one of this week’s post, so feel free to move on to part two.
