Continuing on from part one, we now come to the fourth special member of the Swords of Justice. Usually, most legendary trios have a master. But in the case of the Swords of Justice they have an apprentice, Keldeo.
Because Keldeo is a member of the Swords of Justice that’s only available by special event, I thought it’d be appropriate to cover him in a separate post (plus I couldn’t find a good image with all four of the Swords of Justice together). Anyway, just as the three elder members of the Swords of Justice are based on the original Three Musketeers, Keldeo is based on their fourth member, d’Artagnan. The story behind Keldeo is somewhat tragic. Ages ago, a fire caused by warring factions of humans burned down Keldeo’s home in the Moor of Icirrus, and Keldeo lost his parents in the blaze. So Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion, adopted Keldeo and trained him in the ways of the sword. Then one day Keldeo grew, surpassing even his mentors, and then he left the forest and took off for parts unknown.
Signature Move: Like the other members of the Swords of Justice, Keldeo also learns Sacred Sword. Though he learns it one level later than his three mentors. However, Keldeo also has his own exclusive move in the form of Secret Sword, which he learns when taken back to the Moor of Icirrus or the Pledge Grove in Black 2 and White 2 while the other members of the Swords of Justice are in the party. Secret Sword is a move that calculates damage using Keldeo’s Special Attack and the opponent’s Defense, not unlike Mewtwo’s signature move, Psystrike. Also, while Keldeo knows Secret Sword, he is able to take on his Resolute Form in Black 2 and White 2.
Movie Role: As mentioned before, Keldeo plays a major role in the next Pokemon movie, so this next part might be something of a spoiler. To prove himself to his mentors, Keldeo picks a fight with the dragon of ice, Kyurem. But Keldeo screws up and as a result puts his three mentors in danger. Keldeo ends up fleeing and Kyurem pursues and goes on a rampage. And of course, Ash and his friends have to help Keldeo fight Kyurem and save the other members of the Swords of Justice.
That wraps it up for this week. And since I’ve covered the heroes of the next Pokemon movie for this week, next week I’ll be covering the movie’s villain. So until then, stay tuned.
