Alright guys, I'm not sure I should be joining in this or not. Tell me if I can't, and I'll just delete the post. K? :)
When Melody's ears began to work properly, she began to hear voices. Jumbled voices. Slowly, she opened her eyes and stood up a little wobblier than she intended. She realized had been Teleported to a busy outdoor marketplace. Few people took notice of her, but those who did walked up to her and said things like, "Are you okay?" and "Nice costume, Miss. Are you entering the Pokemon contest?" Melody was utterly confused until she took a closer look at these people's features.
They were humans.
But they weren't panicked by her appearance. Instead, they were quite interested in her. She then remembered the phrase "entering the contest" that some of them quoted. The cogs in her brain clicked away and she put two and two together. So there was supposed a contest, and apparently by the way they marveled at her fin-like ears and tailfin, the people were to dress as gijinkas. She thought about maybe entering to win whatever prize was offered; if it was money, she could use it to buy essentials and maybe even another Mystic Water if she wanted to. But there was the possibility it was a setup... And a tiny voice in her head brought her back to the reason she had been Teleported here in the first place: Deliver the message. But who could Melody trust enough to tell what she had seen and heard?
There was a shuffling noise behind her that broke her train of thought. She spun around, ready to blast whoever it was away if they were a Bounty Hunter. Instead, a young man stood in front of her. "Your tailfin and ears are authentic," he stated in a casual tone. Melody quirked an eyebrow. "You a gijinka too?" she asked, still suspicious. He nodded. "Emmett the Empoleon," he greeted her. "Melody the Mudkip," she replied. Emmett stood in place for a few seconds longer, then began walking again. Melody felt her distrust fade away slightly, and she decided to follow him.
They strolled around for a while, until he came to a halt in front of a billboard. In bold, bright letters, it read, "Pokemon Contest. Enter today." So she guessed right. There was a competition going on. In smaller letters, there was a description of what the contest was about. The more she read, the more suspicious she became, but there was also a spark of excitement in her. Finally, she had finished reading the fine print, she looked around. Emmett had disappeared. She bit her lip and cursed herself for losing sight of him. Might as well try to blend in with the crowd instead, she thought, and began walking.
Being in the market was exhilarating. So many scents, sounds, and sights... Melody hadn't experienced anything like this for two years. Being free in the outside world was suddenly overwhelming to her, and she had never appreciated it as much as she did now. A certain stand caught her attention as she passed. A man was shouting out prices and bargains, trying to catch customers' attention. He had a display of bright East Indian robes, sparkling jewelry, and other exotic merchandise. She was so enchanted by the items that she didn't even notice the person or people in front of her until she ran into them with a loud thunk.
