The Painter

I sat just at the edge of the pond with my legs crossed and my sketchbook lying open across my lap. Every few seconds, my eyes would travel up to the scene and then back down to the paper I was trying to transfer it to. Even with careful strokes of the pen I had in my hand, I found the lines somewhat different from what I actually saw. Sighing almost tiredly to myself, I debated whether or not to simply stop for the day and head to another area to try and draw. I had been traveling for a few weeks, and the changes of scenery had filled my mind with inspiration that I wanted to leave onto canvas. As I worked, the tune that I had inherited from the Smeargle colony ran its way through my throat and into the open air.

A few more strokes and then the turn of the lake…. And…..

“Hello there."

I nearly jumped and looked up startled by the sudden greeting and tapping on my shoulder. Looking into the face of an Espeon Gijinka, I froze. I hadn’t even noticed anyone around, and yet almost suddenly it seemed as though he had just appeared. My eye moved to the right and saw that she had a Lopunny Gijinka with her. Instinct move straight upwards, and I moved my sketch book up placing a barrier between them and me. It had been an action that formed more out of habit than anything else. New people frightened me, and this was my way of dealing with them.

“Hey there", the Lopunny said stepping forwards and seizing my sketchbook. My anger twitched for a moment as I moved forwards to try and get it back.
“Please….” I said almost over a whisper’s level before I finally lunged forwards and managed to wrap my fingers around the sketch pad. Taking it back, I felt the instantaneous need to leave. I turned and started off, but suddenly I was stopped as a hand seized the back of my collar causing me to fall backwards. Least I be frank, I was not enthused.

"Slow down there. We're not going to bit your head off", the Lopunny said smiling happily at me. Once again that strange mix of fear that appealed to my nervous system begged for me to just run, but after a moment, I started to relax again. In truth, what was there to fear with these two girls? They were Gijinka as I am. After a moment, my face resumed a peaceful measure.

"Lupe", the Espeon scolded. "You’re scaring him away!" My head moved and my eyes prcessed the way the two talked to each other. It was apparent enough that they were relatively good friends by the way that they did not show any reserve. I… No. I wouldn’t not think of it now. Not at this time anyways.

"Not even. I'm just trying to 'make a friend',” the Lopunny retorted in a manner that almost forced a strange laugh out of me. However, I returned my feature and continued to view the conversation.

"You can't do it that way, baka", the Espeon finally answered and looked towards me. Placing her hand out to help me up, the Espeon seemed to wait patiently. I couldn’t help but not at this gesture and take her hand.

"I'm sorry for my sister. Let's try this again. Hello there. My name is Estelle. This is Lupe. We are gijinkas just like you. What is your name?" the Espeon asked. Fr a moment I let the names process through my mind as my fingers slowly tapped the sketch book that resided now in front of me. Slowly, I was resuming my own tempo again.

"My name is Mear", I answered feeling it only right to exchange my name for theirs. My eyes somewhat lowered again down to the sketchbook that both my arms coupled.

"Nice to meet you Mear. Do you want to come back to the headquarters with us? There are a lot of gijinkas there just like us. You will feel welcomed." Estelle tried.

In times such as that it is strange when an impulse hits you. On other occasions I would have rejected this and preferred to leave or go back to my picture. However, these girls seemed to have good intentions, and I couldn’t help but value them for it. After a sudden moment, I nodded, and almost spontaneously after that, both girls turned and started heading to an unknown destination that they had named as headquarters.

Realizing my impulse, I started to consider leaving them again, but now there was a strange curiosity that had roamed its way into me. I wanted to know exactly what this headquarters was and what it did. They say curiosity killed the skitty, but I’ll keep my comments to myself on that. Anyways, as we continued to travel, we soon came upon what I could only describe as broken remnants of a building. How exactly was this a headquarters? It appeared more of a footquarters if anything. I nearly Lupe sigh as my eyes continued to move and look over all those that were working on the area. Some sort of disaster had to have befallen or something.

"Damn those bounty hunters... This place has no hope...", Lupe said under her breath but just loud enough for my overly acute hearing to detect. At that moment, I wish I had heard nothing yet once again my curiosity reigned and my eyes roamed to Lupe’s face as she viewed the ground. I couldn’t help but relate to her disappointment in a way. It was the way I sometimes felt when my picture did not come out the way I had expected.

Suddenly an idea came to mind, moving the sketchbook to one arm, I started walking into the rubble. It was the least I could do for their kindness. After that, I flipped my sketch book open to the page that I had drawn only weeks ago of a mansion that had appeared in my mind. It was rare that I didn’t copy things. In that respect I was limited in what I could transfer onto canvas, and yet every so often I would get dreams or visions if you will and be able to copy those onto canvas. It had finally occurred to me what the picture was for, and with that I used my power sketch to take the picture and return it to a three dimensional image. With that, I erased the image on the sketch book. Rubble began to fly and the building began to come together again. Dust flew and scattered the area.

"What's going on??" I heard a high voice squeal off in the dust that had now consumed the air.

"Another attack?" yet another voice asked.

“Sketch reverse,” I whispered to myself answering them in my own way.

There were screams and coughs form the dust, and in that moment, I realized that I had not taken into consideration those in the area. I mentally kicked myself for it, but after a moment another Gijinka used an attack to clear everything. When the dust finally cleared, I let out a sigh and a smirk slowly resumed itself on my face.

It had been proven that matter could not be created or destroyed, but by using reverse sketch to change the broken things around me, I had rebuilt the building in the way my mind’s eye envisioned it. For a moment I wondered if they would take this as a gift or some kind of bribe on friendship. I honestly hoped it would be the prior of the two. After a moment, I looked around waiting for people’s reactions.

"Sugoi..." Lupe mumbled, and for a moment I felt tense and unsure what to do. I had not expected such a compliment for doing it….

Finally out of lack of assurance, I resorted to a thumbs up followed by a shoulder shrug that I hoped no one would notice. “It was the least I could do…” I said quietly wondering if anyone would notice. “For noticing me…” I guessed that no one had taken to notice for instead of replying to this, Lupe just started walking towards me. After a moment she was standing only a few meters off, and I understood her intentions.

"Everyone, this is Mear. He is a Smeargle. Please give him a warm welcome", Lupe shouted.

My muscles tensed, and for a moment, my arm twitched as if wanting to move the sketchbook up once again making the barrier between me and the people around me. However, after a moment, my arm stopped twitching and relaxed. People I didn’t know seemed to greet me, and in a half second, everyone started entering the rebuilt house.

As I entered, my eyes scrutinized every little bit of the house that I had rebuilt waiting to see if there was some sort of flaw in it. I found only two flaws, and yet they were minuscule in stature and no one seemed to notice them. I closed my eyes and kept my comment to myself. In my mind’s eye, there had been many rooms in correspond dance with what Estelle had said about it being a headquarters. I had also rebuilt and placed a bed in many of the rooms furnishing it mostly to my own tastes and yet knowing that people would eventually chose the way they wanted their rooms for themselves. It was a needed compromise in my mind.

"Mear... thank you so much", Lupe said all but beaming at me. I was unsure of exactly what to do so I simply put one arm behind my head and gave a light smile that in its strange deformity evolved into a grin. I couldn’t help it and wouldn’t try to. It was nice…

"You’re welcome,” I answered unsure of anything else to say. I wanted to say thanks for noticing me and things, and yet I couldn’t say it out loud so I simply gave another should shrug and a half smile. “It was the least I could do,” I continued.

“What do you mean?” Lupe asked.

“N-never mind,” I answered trying to resume my stature. The main room had been what had taken most of my mental capacity. It was a large room with vaulted ceilings that held a giant glass chandler at the very top. For a moment I looked up, yet within that last second, a thought came to mind. I took out my sketch book and pen and walked over to the farthest wall. Bending down, I signed my name at the crevice between the floor boards as the initial wall. Taking a step back, I was composed again. Now… this was finished.

Standing up and turning around again, I looked at all that were in the room. I had never been around such a large group of diverse pokemon let alone them all being Gijika. I leaned back on the wall a few meters from where I had finished it with my signature. The rush of wanting to get away had once again returned to me, and my eyes started to roam the easiest way to get out of the almost crowded room.

Hello ^_^ I'm Kratos aka KC-chan. Thanks so much for the welcome and things. I will try to write on a weekly basis if not a daily one.

Oh just a note: the attack sketch initially copies an opponents moves, transfers them to paper, and Mear is able to then use that attack. However, in reverse sketch, Mear takes a picture, and then changes the physical world around him in correspondence with the picture.

Anyways, that's about it. First post WOOT!
