After several minutes, the sound disappeared. I was left there still wondering where it had come from. As I started down the stairs, I head the sound once again, but it was up towards the girls wing. Sighing to myself, I shook my head and started to walk down stairs towards the first floor. I wouldn’t be able to sleep for a while, and I knew it. Suddenly, something seemed to brush by me and continue on its way. As my eyes shot to try and find the cause, I found that there was nothing there. My eye continued to try and find what that thing was in vein. However, I did see that someone was coming down from the girls side of the wing. For a moment, I wondered who it was before there was enough light to show that it was a Hondoom Gijika.
For a moment, I debated whether on not to say anything, but after a moment, I found that allowing anything to fall into silence was not a pleasing thought.
“Did you do something?” I asked wondering if this Houndoom had been causing the sound. However, this theory was quickly thrown out the window as I saw she reflected a look of surprise as well.
“Did the shadow hit you?” the Hondoom asked.
“Shadow?” I asked wondering if that was the cause of whatever had brushed up against me. Then again, how can shadows actually hit something. This though was suddenly disregarded as I realized that an attack could cause a shadow to attack. Finally I continued my thoughts and started talking aloud again. “Was it some kind of attack?” I asked slightly wary of the Houndoom.
Seeming to realize my suspicions, the Hondoom shook her head quickly. “No I didn’t do anything. I just saw the shadow going by… I think it was the effect of someone else’s attack.”
I gave a nod. “I see,” I answered. The Houndoom seemed to reflect a visage of weariness and gave her own nod.
“I was just going up to bed when I saw the shadow and decided to follow it,” the Houndoom answered.
I gave another nod.
“Are you new here by the way?” the houndoom yawned. I realized in that instant that she was probably just tying to keep conversation to be polite and would probably rather be in bed at the moment.
“Yes my name is Mear. I am a smeargle,” I answered.
“Ah….” The hondoom yawned again. “I’m Hoom the houndoom….”
“Nice to meet you,” I answered as I started down the stairs again. “I think whatever it was is gone…”
“I hope so,” Hoom answered. “Sorry, but I’m tired.. I’m going to head to bed…”
“Night then,” I answered as I finally made it to the bottom of the stairs almost completely awake now. For a moment, I debated walking back up the stairs and getting my sketchobook, but at the moment, I didn’t want to wake anyone by walking up the stairs. So I simply walked out into the main room again. The moon was in all the windows and was bating the area in white light. As I continued through the main room, I passed a few of the windows and looked out into the night. It appeared that there was still movement out in the night. I shook my head and found that I was becoming extremely tired again. Maybe I would just head up the stairs again and head to bed again.
Nodding to myself at this, I turned around only to find a Gengar staring at me with a giant smile on his face. Blinking for a moment, I realized that it was the same Gengar as before. With a giant smile, the Gengar stepped forwards and handed me a card. I blinked unsure as to exactly what to do with the card, but before I could ask, the Gengar ran off.
I looked down at the card and found that it was completely blank on both sides. Shaking my head, I had no idea what exactly to make of this. I slid the card in the pocket of my pants, and as I looked back towards the Gengar, I found that it was gone as quickly as it had come.
I headed back up the steps up to my room, but as I did, I heard a noise coming from the wing that I had assigned to be the ladies’ wing. Shrugging to myself and guessing that maybe others could not sleep as well, I just shrugged and sat at the division between the two wings. What was I doing? I shouldn’t be sleeping here! I shook my head and tried to stand up again wanting to get back to my own room.
As I forced myself back up, I looked towards the men’s wing and started to walk towards it sleepily. I shouldn’t have bothered to get up because of the sound in the first place. As I walked up the flights of stairs and come close to my room, suddenly I tripped over something and knocked into the door itself. Suddenly forced wide awake, I blinked and found that I had not gone up the men’s side of the mansion but rather the women’s. I looked straight up at the door, and suddenly Lupe was opening it and giving me the strangest look.
“I… uh… sorry…” I said unsure of anything I could say at the moment that would do anything more than make matters worse. How had I managed to get over here??? I was so sure that I had walked up to my own room, and yet…
“Hu?” Lupe asked putting her hands on her waist methodically.
“I headed up the wrong wing,” I tried to explain but found that my thoughts were somewhat scattered on the matter of what I was tying to say.
Lupe just stared at me for a moment before turning her head to one side.
“Did you need something?” she asked.
“No…” I said shaking my head still trying to focus besides the fact that sleep was demanding that I return to a bed. “Sorry,” I answered again.
“… oh…” Lupe answered almost somewhat solemnly.
It was then that the fragments of my understanding pieced themselves together, and I understood that she probably anticipated that I had come to check up on her after she had passed out and resumed consciousness.
“Are.. you feeling better?” I tried asking wondering if maybe this would lighten her mood a bit.
“Better now,” Lupe answered still convening the understanding that I myself had just come to in the previous second.
“That’s good,” I answered looking down.
Suddenly it seemed as though Lupe came to her own sudden realization.
“Hey where is your sketchbook?” she asked looking at me and moving her head to one side.
“Back up in my room,” I answered somewhat dryly. That was where I wanted to be at the moment, however, just as Hoom had conveyed the cutesy of speaking with me before, I would do the same for Lupe.
“Did you just get up or something?” Lupe asked slowly moving her hands off the sides of her waist.
“Kind of,” I answered back. “I heard some strange sound and decided to look into it. However, it seemed just to be a few restless shadows and things.”
Lupe gave me a confused look but then finally nodded.
“Why did you pass out earlier?” I asked. Very blunt. There was no courtesy in this, and even in my own state of tiredness, I understood the effect of my bluntness. Lupe’s face seemed to brighten red as if she was suddenly very agry.
“It just happens sometimes,” she answered back. “I’m fine.”
“Does it happen often?” I asked again.
“Why are you asking?” she asked as her voice seemed to grow in agitation.
“Sorry,” I answered back. “I didn’t mean to poke into things I shouldn’t.”
I turned to go back and try and find the bed that I had somehow missed on my way up the stairs.
“I just…” Lupe tried and then fell into silence.
I turned around and looked at her truing my head to one side.
“I told everyone that I don’t remember my past,” Lupe answered. “But I do get images of things… that’s when I pass out. I get visions of things, and I start to remember things…” There was a strange pang of hurt in Lupe’s voice as she said it.
I breathed out realizing the full effect of my sudden question. “Sorry,” I answered finally. “I didn’t mean to bring it up…” I looked away and wasn’t sure of anything else to say on the matter. I had obviously overstepped my bounds on this one.
“It… it’s fine,” Lupe answered back.
I looked back at her and then nodded slowly. “You’re not a mean person you know,” I said turning again as I stared away. I was tired.. very very tired. “Night.”
I head Lupe behind me start to say something, but I just continued walking away. Finally, a word came to my ear. “Night,” Lupe finally answered.
As I walked back down the stairs, I found where I had made my error in standing, I passed the point where I had sat down and then started up the other side to the boy’s wing. Gaining successes this time, I found my room once more.
As I walked forwards and clasped my hand on the doorknob, something slipped under me causing me to once again fall on a door. Shaking my head and mentally snacking myself for not looking for anything, I directly my eyes to the floor to see what exactly I had tripped over. It appeared to be a set of colored paint tubes. Staring down at them, I leaned over and picked one up.
Looking it over, I found that the particular paint that I had picked up was a light purple. Bending down again and picking up the other paint tubes, I found a complete array of paint. Looking around, I wondered who had placed the paint at my door… Was this a quiet act of kindness? It appeared so, and for a moment, I couldn’t help smiling to myself.
Clasping the door handle once again, I twisted it and entered my room. The bed had never looked so pleasing before, and almost absentmindedly, I set the paint on my drawing desk and walked lazily over to the bed. Flopping on the bed, I relaxed yet again into the bed and closed my eyes. Sleep, like a quiet cat roaming the house, finally returned back to me as I snoozed on the bed.
