We walked into a park not far off. The park itself was very spacious and seemed to have a mix of all different terrain to suit any pokemon that chose to come. This, and the fact that Valentine’s Day seemed to be affecting everyone from people to pokemon, caused many pokemon to be moving about in the park. It was both peaceful and somewhat extreme for many of the pokemon were running around in a strange love dove fashion. Even the Noctowel who usually chose to sleep during the day were out and about. My eyes scanned the area, and I found that my mind was already converting what I saw into two dimensions, and my hand was starting to twitch with the wanting to sketch it down. However, I refrained and tried to keep a pleasant manner.
Shupple walked forwards and headed towards a bench, I followed suit in a quiet manner. For a moment, Shupple stopped and pet a Linoone that had decided to make its presence known before starting again. As I sat down, I found that the Linnone had followed and had hopped up on the bench between Shupple and me. I wouldn’t doubt it was a strange sight to anyone that happened to turn their eyes on the scene. After a moment, the Linoone got up and seemed to go bounding off after something.
Suddenly a Teddiursa seemed to spur straight out of the brush and took both Shupple’s and my hand carefully examining them both. Suddenly the Teddiursa seemed to almost smirk and put our legs closer to each other. I felt my face grow sharp red as I looked down. The Teddiursa, seeming happy to complete some strange mission, started off again. My eyes trailed the Teddirusa for a moment before I nearly jumped at realizing what it had done. Breathing out, I tried to relax and seemed unfazed by this. Yet, I knew my face was growing redder by the minute. Looking at Shupple for a moment, I found that she had changed a shade as well. We both forced somewhat of an awkward smile before turning our head straight forwards.
The Linoone seemed to come back again and jumped on Shupple’s lap. She made no protest to it and rather started petting it. Suddenly my eyes were forced downwards as I noticed that someone had taken up residence at my feet. Looking down, I found that a Smeargle had found a comfortable seat and was now working on his own picture with a small sketchbook. Seeming to notice that I was staring down at him, he turned his head up and raised an eyebrow at me as if to inquire whether or not I actually thought he needed permission to sit on my feet or not. It came to mind that this was somewhat of a branch off of the solitary nature that most Smeargle possessed. Indeed, we were all in a way very quiet and preferred to draw than deal with others around us. Even still, I couldn’t help but find that this action was somewhat silly for him not to think that I would give some sort of protest in conjunction. Seeming to put on an oblivious façade, the smeargle started drawing on the miniature sketchbook.
I found that my eyes were somewhat trailing over the smeargle’s drawing, and suddenly came to mind that it was somewhat of a hypocritical notion for me to be doing something that I had somewhat condemned people for doing. Shaking my head, I moved sight off of the picture, and my eyes came to rest on Shupple. I noticed that she seemed to have been laughing about something, but I had apparently missed it.
After another moment, the Smeargle seemed to finish his picture and left the residency of my feet to pursue other conquests which included the pond that it appeared he was heading towards. After my eyes moved back from watching him go, I found that many of the other pokemon had started to move off on their own again returning to their own friends. This was the peace of things indeed.
As I looked back at the park, I noticed that the shadows had moved somewhat of a fraction. Being overly perceptive of this more or less due to the hours I had spent trying to copy images and shades, I realized that time was passing quickly and that both Shupple and I needed to get back to the mansion and get ready for the Valentine’s Day Ball. I let out a half sigh and stood up. Shupple seemed somewhat startled by the motion, but her face instantly returned to a peaceful look.
“I think we need to head back to the mansion…” I said repressing the urge to sigh. “We both need to get ready for the Ball….”
“Oh… ok,” Shupple answered quietly rising from the bench as the Linoone jumped off her lap and started off again.
My eyes couldn’t help but trail the Linoone as it went bounding in a straight line off into the grass. Moving my eye a fraction of a degree up, I found what the Linoone was running towards. However, before I could think of what it was, the Linnone pounced it, and then it became clear that it had pounced another Linoone who seemed more or less unimpressed by the gesture. I resisted the urge to laugh and then found that I had already committed the image to memory to be later drawn.
My head turned back to Shupple, and I found that she had been watching as well. She looked paler than usual, and I couldn’t quite explain why. Suddenly seeming to catch my eye again, Shupple turned her head fully and stared at me. Within a second, my eyes had trailed the contours of her face, and my hand was starting to form as if I were holding a pen ready to draw it. I put my hands in the pockets of my pants and turned my head to one side giving Shupple a calm stare back.
“Shall we go then?” I asked patiently. Taking my hand out of my pocket again, I extended it to Shupple who seemed to show a sudden visage of surprise at the sudden motion. However, after a moment, Shupple reached out her own hand and took mine. I nodded to myself and then turned a side step as we both walked out of the park again.
We walked down the street and through the square once again as people seemed to becoming more and more on edge with getting ready for their own Valentine’s Day festivities. I had felt the tension that had started up when Shupple and I had passed through the square, but it didn’t appear to be around anymore for people had turned their energy into sudden rushing around and perorations. Shupple and I walked past the café that we had eaten in only to see that the Gardevoir was standing outside. She waved slightly and gave a light smile. I wondered if she was going to stop us and say something. However, she just turned back inside seeming to smile to herself. I looked back at Shupple who had by that time turned red again. I decided that there had been some sort of exchange that I had not noticed and left it at that for the sake of my mind.
Starting to walk slower and slower, I found that the once steady walk that Shupple and I had started with had now moved down a few levels to a half walk at best. We passed by several stores including the one that we had walked into and purchased clothes from the other day… was it truly only yesterday? I shook my head a bit.

"You look good," Kat said aloud suddenly breaking my thoughts that had moved yet again off to my family. "Shoulders look a little tight... But it's not something I can fix right now. It would take all day." I nodded at her calmly. It would be fine. "Um, when the dance is over, would you like me to help you look?" Kat asked with an almost strange look on her face.
Now this had surprised me in the same way that the event concerning the understanding had. I really needed to reassure my faith in people again. Then again, not people per say. The people of the mansion were all Gijinka… except for a few as Daniel had said earlier, so honestly there was no real reason not to have high expectations of this crew.
“If you wouldn’t mind,” I answered. “I would be honored if you would help me look.”
Kat’s face seemed to brighten considerably, and she put her hands together and made a large smile. I gave a natural relaxed gesture back in assurance. After another moment, Kat had returned to the subject of the dance.
“It’s going to be so much fun,” Kat continued on. “The food, the music, the dancing!”
Indeed, she was excited. I couldn’t help but compare this excitement to the time that I had gotten very jumpy about receiving my black belt from the Master. It had twisted such happiness in me that I was literally on edge all day long until I was finally presented with the belt. I smiled a bit and nodded again.
“I rarely dance, but I hope it doesn’t compromise anything,” I said after a moment.
Kat eyed me almost in a confused way. I guess somewhere in the back of her mind she had expected me to know how to dance. Either that or maybe she had been fanaticizing it or something along those lines. In this simple action, I came to the conclusion that she was still very young. Not young in the sense that Kat was a child but more that she was just a young soul. Her easily pleased motions made this known to me, and the sudden showing of almost half sadness confirmed this.
“Well I can teach you then,” Kat answered. “It’s not really that hard, and you look… reasonably coordinated.”
Was this a stab at my pride? I couldn’t help but let out a mix between a chuckle and a laugh. No… it wasn’t. I understood that she was just making the comment, and I gave another smile.
“Coordinated enough,” I confirmed with a smile. “I didn’t become head of my dojo back home by shear force.”
This seemed to spark a smile out of Kat for one reason or another.
“So you’re a dojo master then?” she asked with a strange enthusiasm.
“Indeed,” I answered back. “I ran a dojo back on Dewford Island before my family and I got separated… I trained with many fighting pokemon, and they came from all around to the dojo.”
“Oh cool,” Kat answered somewhat less enthused as she had just been. I guessed that maybe she was starting to calm down again. Suddenly she was on her tiptoes and seemed to inspect me again. I didn’t protest but found my eyebrow rose in confusion. Shifting back on her heels again, Kat put one hand to her chin. “Hey just how old are you?” she asked.
The question of age had been so spontaneous that for a movement, I was completely caught off guard. I remained silent for a fraction of a second before I started to answer.
“Twenty,” I answered.
This seemed to confirm something to Kat as she smiled again and put her hands together in a pleased gesture. After a moment, she turned and then turned back.
“That works,” she smiled again. “Now how old do you think I am?”
In truth, I had never been one as perceptive as I had hoped to be in these sorts of fields. Going off more of the way she acted than anything else, I guessed that she was around fifteen or sixteen… seventeen would be pushing it, I decided, but then again with teenage girls, they were always determined to appear older than they really were. This was the case with Rogue who was bound in determined to tell everyone that she was sixteen rather than thirteen. So what it boiled down to was that I could easily say seventeen and get away with it.
“Seventeen,” I said turning my head to one side waiting to see if she would either be pleased with this or whether it would spark some sort of offense.
“Hah,” Kat laughed lightly making it more of her form of answer than anything else.
“I guess not then?” I questioned not really wanting to continue the conversation but feeling that it would be rude to suddenly fall silent.
“Sixteen,” Kat answered. “You’re off a year.” She laughed again obviously pleased with my miscalculation… or maybe it was something else. I could not really tell.
