Shupple
I had finished up getting ready for the ball and just as I looked away from the mirror, scratching my hair a little, I heard my doorknob turn by slightly an inch. I felt myself lightly blush as I waved my hand through the hair horizontally and the door swung.
I felt myself blush even more as I found out it was Mear standing up in the doorway, staring at me. I just stared at him, blushing even more as he continued to stare at me a little before diverting my eyes. Then I looked at his outfit, and noticed it had been changed white with a red tie, and I found it... exquisite? Was that even the word I was looking for? Maybe it was handsome...
“Y-you look... wonderful...” Mear stuttered and I felt my heart beat just a little bit more harder then I was used to. My blush grew to a bright red and I averted Mear's eyes this time, and then, my eyes coming back to his at the same time, ironically.
Turning at the same time, surprisingly, we headed out of the room and headed down the stairs in silence, and soon, we came upon the ballroom, filling slowly by many people. I still couldn't believe this whole thing was happening...
Looking at Mear, it seemed we both agreed to go in and slowly, we did. Music was playing mid-tempo but people were dancing and having fun. Mear and I headed to the sidelines and watched the people, my eyes diverting to the snack table, but I suddenly wasn't hungry... That's right... I barely just ate an hour or two ago...
My eyes diverted back to Mear and I felt myself blushing even more. Why was I doing this?
"W-would you... like to d-dance, Shupple?" Mear suddenly asked, holding out his hand for me to take. It took me just a few seconds to realize what he had asked and I nodded, taking his hand and him leading me to the dance floor, a blush rising to his cheeks and mine also.
We took each other's hands in a delicate way that dancers do and danced a little to the beat, but then I messed up just a little on my footing, thank God not stepping on his feet, and messed up the step. Feeling nervous about this whole thing, I looked up at Mear and I think he seemed to be thinking the same thing I was, but I started out talking instead.
"D... do you want t-to head o-outside instead?" I asked nervously, my voice jumping all around.
Mear nodded and he took my hand in his, I blushing and we headed out the back door of the ball room and out into a little deck. We parted hands, and I looked quickly at the clock behind me. 33 minutes had already passed by? Wow. That was fast.
I leaned against railing of the deck and looked up at the moon, Mear leaning against the railing beside me.
"Beautiful night..." I didn't even know why I was talking, or why I even continued. "I used to play on nights like these, chasing my dad around the lawn behind our house and then tripping and falling, I ending up laughing in the end. It was so much fun back then with my parents..." I chuckled a little and then it died, I just staring up at the moon in the end.
It was such a beautiful moon... Such a beautiful night, filled with such happy people... I couldn't help smiling by these old memories, but what made me wonder was what made them come back to me... Maybe being with Mear was what brought them back...
