Night to Remember

[[ Luis ]]

Luis exhaled slowly, his scarlet eyes darting over the landscape. The height of the balcony allowed him to see the extensive forest stretch onwards for as far as his sharp, trained eyes could observe. No words were exchanged between him and his new acquaintance, Vixy, for a good while. The mutual silence was surprisingly comfortable. At one point, Luis glanced over at her, attempting to figure out the species of Pokemon she was. However, she lacked the gijinka appendages that others normally had. Without animal-like ears or a tail, it was nearly impossible for him to identify her breed.

She appeared to feel his stare upon her and turned her head to meet his gaze. Her short, auburn hair whipped about her face as her nightgown billowed behind her in the breeze. "Something up?" she inquired, a hint of suspicion in her voice. Luis shook his head. "I was studying you," he responded, blinking. When her eyes narrowed, he continued, "I was trying to guess your species, nothing more."

Vixy seemed to be reassured by his statement, but she still gave off a hint of wariness. "If you're so curious, I don't think it would hurt to tell you. I'm a Vulpix."

"Oh."

Silence overtook the two again. Luis returned to gazing out across the treetops. The moon was high in the night sky now, her pale, silvery light straining to reach the spots cast in shadow. The male Lucario shifted his position, feeling a bit restless. He thought of different topics to start a new conversation with, but nothing he could come up with could be deemed interesting. He drummed his fingertips against the railing lightly, wondering if Vixy would end up leaving.

[[ Melody ]]

Her feet thundered up the stairs, her fingers grasping Hon's gifts tightly. As she reached the landing, that Chinchou boy's words whirled about in her brain. "Are you two together?" repeated itself continuously. She shook her head to clear her mind. When she found the door leading to the room that she called her own, she flung it open and scurried inside. What on Earth would Hon get me? she asked herself. The curiosity was eating her alive. She set the roses and the corsage aside on her bed, and then turned her attention to the box. She set it down, and with hands trembling from anticipation, untied the ribbon holding it shut and pried open the lid.

Melody gasped when she laid eyes on the item inside the container. Staring back at her was a snowy white dress. How... how considerate of him, she thought, running her fingers over the slick, downy-soft material. She held it up to get a better view of it. Its design was pretty basic, but it was this simplicity that made it so alluring. The snow-colored gown was strapless, the top half tailored to compliment the upper body curves. It flared out at the hip, becoming rather ruffly before stopping just below the knee. Beneath the white layer of cloth were a couple of levels of pale pink lace, which would become visible if the bottom half of the dress shifted. This same lace bordered the top of the gown. Two ribbons draped across the waist, with a bow on both the left and right hip, gave the outfit a finishing touch.

Melody nearly cried from joy. He bought it so that I could have a gown that complied with the dance's dress code, she thought. I may not be able to attend the ball now, but I don't mind. I am so wearing this. It's the least I could do to show thanks. Without further ado, she pulled off her blue dress and slipped into the ball gown. After straightening out some unwanted wrinkles, she picked up the corsage and attached it to her wrist. Her gaze happened to shift to the roses lying in a heap on her bed. She walked over to them, gingerly picked them up, and deposited them in a sea-green vase sitting on her dresser. Satisfied, she strolled into the bathroom to have a look in the mirror.

She didn't look half bad in her dress. Hon had done an excellent job at picking the correct size and design that she would like. For a few moments, she pondered over how he was able to find the perfect outfit, but then decided not to worry about it. Before heading out, she took one final glance in the mirror to ensure that her look was foolproof. Something just doesn't fit... she thought, frowning. She tried to figure out the out-of-place detail, but couldn't seem to pinpoint one. Suddenly, however, she realized what it was. With a smile, she removed her ponytail holder, allowing her pale blue hair to cascade down her back. She then swept out the door and entered the hallways, thoroughly content.

When Melody entered the kitchen, both Andreas and Hon whipped their heads up to see her. Andreas' eyes widened. "Wow, Melody dear, that looks great on you!" he exclaimed. Hon blushed, seemingly proud that his gift had turned out to be of good use to her. The female Mudkip chuckled lightly, grabbing her apron and tying it around her waist.

"W-wait... What are you doing?" Hon asked, confusion evident in his voice. "You're able to attend the dance now."

"I know," Melody replied brightly. "But I must finish cooking for everyone. I don't want the ball to be a dud because no good food was available to the attendees. Maybe we can catch a waltz at the end or something, but don't count on it. Now, where was I? Ah, yes, the cheesecake..." She went straight to work, humming an upbeat tune to herself.

Andreas looked over at Hon, who appeared crestfallen. After glancing down at his own outfit, which consisted of a red dress shirt and black pants, he spoke up. "Melody," he said quietly, "You have already sent out plenty of food. I'm pretty sure you could take a break and relax for a bit. Surely you wouldn't want to miss out on some fun?"

Melody turned to face the twenty-one-year-old and retorted, "But I must make the guests as happy with the food as possible. To do so, there should be a wide variety of treats to choose from. I've only prepared fifteen different dishes. Fifteen, Andreas! The great chefs of this world would laugh if they heard that! I must have at least twenty-five dishes to provide a broad enough spectrum of morsels to choose from!" She spun back around and returned to decorating the cheesecake.

There was an awkward silence between Andreas and the Houndor next to him. After a moment, Hon leaned over and whispered, "Fifteen? Did she say that since she started cooking, which was about thirty minutes, she's done fifteen?!" Andreas stared straight at the wall, as bewildered as Hon was.

"Yeah," he managed to get out, "fifteen."

This... was the epitome of awfulness. Writer's block decided to drop in, especially with Luis's part. UGH. I really hope there's some substance there for you to continue off of, Wolfdemon. D:

I tried to keep it more lighthearted and maybe even a bit humorous with Melody's part. You've finally discovered Andreas' age, if you read closely enough! I did add a little conflict in there too. Melody can get rather stubborn and determined when it comes to getting a job done. Also, fifteen! Fifteen!!!XD
