Mear
“They weren't mine... Not mine...” Shupple screamed out causing me to jump. My eyes moved over her face as she cried, and then I found my eyes move to the Gengar…. Gray? I was sure that I had heard his name or something of the like. Shaking the question out of my mind, I exchanged a half glace with Gray to which he nodded and started to get up.
“I'm going to look around for medical supplies,” Gray said with a controlled manner that I realized as being something one only acquires after seeing much death. With that, he proceeded to the back of my closet and started looking around. I found it somewhat surprising that he would know where to look, and yet then again who truly knew the matters of those that didn’t state them.
My attention moved back to Shupple who seemed to be trying to compose herself. I gave a half smile trying to grab at as much reassurance on the matter as possible, and yet even in my own mind, there was a florescent doubt that would not leave. Once again, the image that the ghost girl had left in my mind flashed before me, and I found for a half second, I had gone rigid.
In that moment, Shupple seemed to be fumbling with something within her jacket, and at that moment, she produced my sketchbook. “Here's your sketchbook, Mear,” Shupple said quietly after a moment. Taking the sketchbook in hand, I instantly had the mind to draw what I had seen onto paper. I gave a half nod and slowly took out a pencil as well. Starting the contour and then the internal design, I slowly realized exactly what the image was. Suddenly, I felt Shupple leaning over my shoulder.
“Is…. Is that….” Shupple said breaking off after a moment. I found my eyes rise, and after a moment I nodded.
“This was the image the ghost child had left in my mind…” I said after another moment as my eyes returned to the picture. “I… think this is the reason she is haunting the area….”
My eyes moved over the paper once again as I stared down at the picture. Drawn in thin lines on the white paper was a picture of a plush rabbit with eyes made out of buttons. It was a simple rabbit in design and context, and yet the sewing was very fine and made it look extremely well made. I placed my hand on the picture and then let out a breath.
“I don’t…. understand why….” I said feeling somewhat tired at that point. “If this run around game this ghost is playing is only for the purpose of a rabbit….”
“We all….. get attached to things….” Shupple cut into my thoughts, and I realized that I had drifted into my own understandings at that point. It took about three seconds for the context of the words to truly make sense in my mind. It was true for I had a perfect example of my own attachment to my sketchbook, but was it truly enough to rise from the dead in order to secure something?
Seeming to understand my doubt on the issue, Shupple seemed to avert her eyes for a moment. “I mean… there are probably other reasons as well… I mean…” she tried but was already fumbling with her words.
I gave a nod and let out a breath. Suddenly the sound of crashing caused my eyes to move caustically to the source which was my closet. Approximately twenty canvases had fallen straight down on Gray, and he was now half buried under them.
“Why do you have so many???” Gray seemed to half yell from under the pile of canvas. I resisted a sudden laugh that was accumulating in my throat, and yet in the end, the resistance failed. A loud laugh seemed to escape me suddenly, and after it had made its reverberations off the walls, I was left with a sudden feeling of nervousness.
Shupple seemed to eye the entire situation somewhat in a comical manner as one of her eyebrows was raised high on her forehead. Shaking her head after a moment, Shupple seemed to try and force herself to stand up for herself.
“It shouldn’t be that hard to find….” Shupple said somewhat in a dry manner.
I was about to protest when Shupple gave me a sideways glace and then seemed to walk straight into my closet. I fell silent and became somewhat of a spectator in the event that played out. Shupple started moving canvases and finally managed to unbury Gray who was lying on his back clinging to a medical kit. Shupple seemed to put her hand up to her face in a dry manner as one does when they can’t help but feel the entire situation to be stupid. Gray laughed for a solid minute before he finally got to his feet and actually moved back over. It was in that moment, that I became once again a player.
“We should find the others…” Gray said after distributing bandages. “Well… those that remain….”
I felt my eyebrow raised at this comment.
Lee
The girl that stood before me was smiling a dual smile that I could not begin to explain. My eyes moved over her once and then twice, and yet each time, the girl just returned my stare with a smile.
"Hello," the girl laughed to me. "I've played with dolls with the Glameow, and pretended the Houndoom was a mermaid. Now, I'm letting the Mudkip become like a chameleon. I think interacting with you would be entertaining too."
I felt myself tense completely as my eyes moved back to Melody who was already fully transparent. Melody only managed to force out the words help before she was completely gone, and yet I stood there transfixed as to what to do. A sharp laugh caused my eyes to move over to the girl who was still smiling at me. In that moment, I realized what she was holding was a doll of Kat.
“What game should we play… hm…” the child said putting one finger up to her chin as she considered the possibilities. My eyes narrowed, and I took a step back ready to kick back any form of attack that she could throw. However, the girl seemed to just shrug her shoulders after a moment.
Taking the offensive, I raised my right foot in a manner waiting for the perfect moment to blast the girl back with a Mega Kick. The girl only seemed to smile back and hold up the doll of Kat. I felt my eyes narrow as I understood the meaning that the girl was convening. She wanted to test my convictions in attacking.
“Oh I got it!” the girl said suddenly as her eyes lightened up. “Let’s play a fighting game! Since you are a fighting pokemon after all heheh.”
Suddenly, the shadows seemed to elongate and began to combine forming into a dark blob before me. Staring at it for a full second, I realized that the blob was taking the form of myself in the exact stance that I was standing in. We were exact mirrors of each other each leaned into a perfect fighting stance. My face became emotionless towards the blob who seemed to start smirking back at me.
A split second was cut short by both of our sudden jolts forwards. I took three spin steps, and so did he. With an arched kick, I made to kick him in the side, and in perfect mirror, he did the same. Both of our kicks crossed by calf in the air, and we both stood complete transfixed by the sheer force that we had both exerted. With neither of us willing to give into the other’s full kick, we stood there frozen for what felt like minutes.
“Brick Breaker,” I glared suddenly managing to use the energy to finish my own full kick and beating back the shadow. The shadow in turn was kicked back a few feet and nearly landed straight on the ghost girl who gave out a cry and backed up away from the fallen shadow hitmonlee.
I let out a cold breath, and resumed my kicking fighting stance. However, the shadow didn’t seem to get up but rather changed form into a hitmonchan. Half of my mind at that point screamed out as I realized that I was looking into the face of my younger brother, Chan. Yet within another minute, I was able to see the shadow once again fully as it was, a dark figure of a hitmonchan.
“Aw….” The girl seemed to cry out from behind the shadow figure. “You’re not like the others….” The girl reached up and pulled both sides of her face down in the formation of a frown. I raised my eyebrow, but soon enough my question was answered by my own understanding. She had been using illusions of familiar forms in order to take down the others.
“Come,” I said quietly. “I’m about to end this fight.”
