The Lake

“I need to draw more,” Mear said standing up after a moment. “I think I’ll go out towards the lake.” Mear smiled to me afterwards, trying to reassure me. “Want to come?” Mear than hesitated for a moment before continuing. “If you have something else to do, I understand,” Mear told me and what came to mind is that he probably wanted to think or something, but the question still lingered in my head for about a minute before I realized that I needed to answer Mear.

“Uh...” I said uncertainly. “Sure...” I told Mear after a moment before my mind finally cleared.

Mear nodded and I gathered my things and slowly, we headed outside, the other gijinkas moving quickly among themselves and somebody, I think Hon, bringing Hoom in, who was crying. I had a feeling it had to do something with Lux, but I decided not to completely fill myself in on the subject. I would probably hear something about it later.... I don't know... Something in me felt like I should go to Hoom or stay with Mear. But I kept walking and soon, I flipped my hood back over my head and headed outside with Mear.

It had gotten brighter since I had last been out, but I could handle it if I was in the shade, probably... Mear and I kept quiet among each other as we walked over to the lake and sat beside it as I heard fighting happening in the forest and then Lux coming out with Hon over his shoulder, then going inside, then coming back out and going back into the woods. I probably shouldn't mess with Lux... Even though I should probably punch him in the face....

Making sure to have my hood completely over me, I sat beside the lake, beside Mear, and slid off my boots. It was kind of hot outside, so I slipped my feet into the water and sighed happily and smiled. I didn't always get to relax like this. It was nice....

I looked over at Mear, and noticed he was drawing away in his sketchbook and I smiled at him when he looked up. He smiled back and then went back to drawing. I then realized I should probably ask the question I've been wanting to ask him. Maybe since we're both relaxed.... I dunno.... Maybe I shouldn't.... but....

I let out an exasperated sigh and looked up at the sky, looking up at the clouds, wondering if it was going to rain. And then I felt a bite happen on my toe come from a Goldeen inside the lake. I looked down, carefully took off my fingerless glove on my right hand, and put it in the water, moving it over to the Goldeen and started to pet its scales to where it swam happily in the water.

And then I looked at Mear again, wondering if I should ask him or not....

"Hey... Mear?" I started out and then took a small gulp and a bead of sweat running down the side of my face before continuing when he looked at me. Mhm...

"I was wondering.... Do you remember... what I told you before I passed out... and we all entered the Twilight Zone... or something like that in the dream?"

I couldn't look at him and started to blush a little and looked down into the lake. I just couldn't look at him after I asked him that. I guess it's a habit now or something....
