Reawaken

A female malevolent sprite... The mansion under siege by supernatural creatures... The Twilight Zone... Is that my family...? No, just an illusion... Hon... you evolved! But we have to wage the final battle, so don't celebrate just yet... We're fighting now, fighting hard... An intense burst of light-

A light pressure on Melody's cheek brought her from her sleep. It took her a moment to recover from the vivid and intricate dream she had just finished. Her eyelids fluttered open a hair's breadth, hesitant to greet the harsh sunlight that would inevitably overwhelm her senses. She could make out a shape - a dark silhouette of a person retreating from her form. She squinted as the figure settled into a chair by her bed. Who could that be? she asked herself. She opened her eyes fully to discover the answer to her unspoken question.

He was staring out of the window as in in a trance as she studied him. His face appeared dreadfully familiar, but Melody knew that she had never met him before. He was a Houndoom; she could tell by the jet-black horns curling out of his soot-colored hair and the wiry tail that was currently thumping against the floor. He looked remarkably like Hoom, she realized, and immediately, the gears clicked into place. That's Hon! she thought. He really did evolve! So that must mean... that dream was real! No wonder it was so lifelike...!

Her face broke out into a wide grin, and at that moment, Hon seemed to snap out of his daydream. He shifted his gaze over to her, and abruptly flushed red. After a second or two of awkward silence, he hopped out of the seat and bolted for the door. Melody's eyes sparkled with mirth as the door clicked shut. Oh, well. At least that shows he's still the Hon I know, she laughed internally.

The Mudkip sat up and stretched, then hopped out of bed. After washing her face in the bathroom, she strolled over to the dresser and pulled out her old battle suit. "I think I should change things up," she stated aloud. "Besides, it's comfortable and pretty." Without further hesitation, she slipped out of her nightgown, pulled on fresh undergarments, and tugged the dress-like bodysuit over her. As the finishing touch, she used her familiar hair ribbon to tie her hair back in her normal ponytail. She brushed a couple of wrinkles from her clothes and strutted out the door.

As she made her way down the stairs and through the lobby, heading for the kitchen, the evident noise of somewhat labored footsteps caused her to turn her head. Lux had slung a limp Hon over his back and was hauling him through the spacious room. "Oh my gosh! What happened?" Melody burst out, placing her hands over her mouth and fearing the worst. She scurried over to the towering Luxray, who grinned widely and responded, "It's okay. He ain't dead Melody. We were sparring and he became heat exhausted from his newly formed powers."

The Mudkip furrowed her brows. "Can that happen?"

"Apparently!" he laughed, placing Hon on a nearby couch. "Even so, he is fine. He will come to soon. Would you be able to take care of him for me? They say women have the best charm for healing a man's heart!"

Melody was a bit suspicious at this uncharacteristic cheeriness, but nonetheless beamed in return. "Yes I can do that!" she returned, a small Aqua Ring forming in her hand. "Thanks for your kind words too!"

The Luxray, showing his canines proudly, saluted her, did an about-face, and swept out the door. Melody stared at the space he had previously been for a moment, and her smile faltered. "Everything's not fine, Lux. You should know that it would take more effort to fool me," she said softly to no one in particular. "But a game is always open for two to play."

She turned to address Hon's wounds, allowing her bubble of cool, soothing water to glide slowly over the multiple bruises and lacerations. The purple-and-black spots eventually morphed into a healthy peach color, as the split and bloody skin seamlessly stitched itself together. However, the teenage Houndoom showed no signs of recovery from his deep unconsciousness. Melody sighed darkly, but her head jerked up when she picked up on light footfalls and the tiniest trace of water lilies floating through the air. "Andreas," she called out, whipping her head in the direction of his scent.

Deep amber met startling aqua. Melody's name fell from the bespectacled man's mouth several times, and both of them rushed forwards at once, tackling each other in a crushing embrace. "You're okay," Andreas gasped. "I looked and looked all over for you, but you had disappeared. I had no idea what had happened. I-I could never get back to sleep..."

"I'm okay now," Melody responded gently. "We gijinkas defeated the source of the problem. But..." she glanced back at Hon. "There is something I need help with." She grabbed the scientist's hand and led him over to the couch where the Houndoom lay. "This is Hon, by the way; he evolved. He is in a heavy unconscious state stemming from heat exhaustion due to his overuse of his new-found abilities. My Aqua Ring can only heal wounds, which I have taken care of, but I can't restore energy or anything of that sort. I need you to give him a serum to help him come to more quickly."

Andreas nodded and went straight to work. He rummaged around in his pocket, eventually producing a small medicine vial and a syringe package. He assembled the syringe with an expert hand and used it to extract the fluid from the bottle. He flicked the medicinal instrument several times to mix the liquid thoroughly, then began searching for veins in the Houndoom's arm. When he found one he deemed large enough, he stuck it with the needle and injected the serum. Melody hovered by the scientist as he backed away. There was silence as the two waited for Hon to revive himself and explain to the Mudkip and her partner just what had happened between him and Lux.
