“Hey!” someone shouted. The young girl stirred slightly. She opened her eyes.
“G-Gengar?” she whispered. She looked at her ghost Pokemon.
“Everyone wants to see you,” he notified her. “There waiting just outside.”
Ren got out of bed and dressed. She grabbed her Pokeballs and headed out the window. Netto was already outside.
“Finally!” Netto exclaimed. Enzan, Meiru, and Netto were dressed for the night.
“We finally found out what is wrong with the wild Pokemon!” Meiru explained.
“W-what’s wrong with them then?” Ren asked, softly.
“It’s Darkrai,” Enzan answered. He pointed to the north side of the village. “Gengar can guide us to him, right?”
Ren turned to Gengar. “Yep,” Gengar said. “Follow me!” He floated off. Everyone followed. It took them a better part of an hour to get there. “We’re here!” Gengar whispered. Ren passed the news and they stopped. They hid among the bushes.
They peered through the bushes. Just above a small Rattata, a dark ghost like Pokemon hovered over it. Ren’s eyes widened. It’s Darkrai, she thought.
“I’ll-!” Netto began, getting one of his Pokeballs.
“No,” Enzan cut in. “Your Pokemon won’t handle Darkrai. Neither will mine or Meiru’s.”
“I-“ Ren began. “Rilu!” She sent out her Lucario. “I’ll handle this, guys,” she said.
Everyone looked at her in surprise. Ren blushed. “G-Gengar, can you take them back?” she asked.
“Of course! If I do, can I levitate all the furniture to fool with Ijunin’s dad?” Gengar asked. Ren nodded her agreement. Gengar smiled mischievously and took off.
“Netto-kun, Meiru-chan, Enzan, Gengar will lead you back to the village,” Ren whispered. “I’ll handle Darkrai with Rilu.”
“Say wh-?!” Netto was about to shout but Meiru put her hand over his mouth.
“You’ll come back alright,” Meiru told her. Ren nodded. Enzan gave her one last glance. The three took off.
They were gone and Ren was left with Rilu. “You ready, Ren-chan?” Ren nodded. She took a deep breath and the two stepped out of the bushes.
Darkrai didn’t pay them any attention. “Um . . . Stop!” Ren cried.
Darkrai looked at the two new comers and laughed. “A girl and a Lucario have come to stop me? What a joke!”
“I-I’m not a-afraid,” Ren said. Darkrai stopped laughing.
“How annoying,” he said. Darkrai formed a Shadow Ball and shot it at them.
“Rilu, Aura Sphere!” Rilu shot a blue Aura Sphere at the oncoming Shadow Ball. They both hit each other and made smoke.
Darkrai came through it. Rilu was ready and stood his ground. Rilu slammed his paw into Darkrai and used Force Palm. Darkrai was paralyzed but became quickly annoyed. He glared at Ren. She froze.
Rilu looked back at her. “Ren-chan! Look away!” Ren didn’t listen. She was frozen and numb.
“You know you should listen to him,” came a mysterious voice. Darkrai was knocked into a tree. Ren fell to the ground. Her concouisness slipped into the black, into a nightmare.
The Lucario looked at the new comer. “Who are you?” Rilu asked.
A Grovyle came out of the shadows. “I just helped you out,” said the Grovyle. “It doesn’t matter because you should get your trainer back to the village.”
Rilu looked at Ren. “She’s now trapped in a nightmare,” the Grovyle said. “She’ll be safe once you get her back to the village.”
Rilu picked up Ren and began to run back. The Grovyle followed close behind. “Just who are you?” Rilu asked again.
“The name’s Dark,” he explained. “I’m an enemy of Darkrai. I work for Cresselia, the one Pokemon that Darkrai can’t stand against. Cresselia protects your village from Darkrai so many Pokemon in that area don’t fall under Darkrai’s spell. She’ll awaken in due time is she stays in the village.”
Rilu looked at Dark then back on the trail. They were in the village. Rilu rushed to Netto’s house where the others had waited.
Rilu set Ren on the couch and sat at its foot. Dark went to lean on the wall. With the rising sun Ren had awoken.
