Minccino

More English Pokemon names have been revealed for the Generation V group.

Some I liked (Shimama=Blitzle), others I didn’t (Meguroko=Sandile).

But there will always be one that will stand out the most….and that was Chillarmy, lovingly renamed Minccino.

Now, as I played my Pokemon White ROM one day (yes, I’m guilty of romming on the computer. Doesn’t matter anyways, since I’m going to buy the real game when it comes out) I began wondering how exactly on earth do you pronounce Minccino? Meen-cheeno? Meen-sinno?

But no matter how I pronounce it, the name always ended up sounding like some weird version of Missingno. I still have nightmares to this day about the evil glitchy block that messed up my beloved Blue Version.

This particular White ROM that I was playing already had all the dialogue, items, Pokedex entries translated into English, so I found it pretty cool that I was able to understand what the characters were saying. The Pokemon names were still Japanese, but instead of being written in katakana, they were simply translated into romaji.

I had successfully beaten Aloe in Shippou City, and was heading out into Yaguruma Forest. My team seemed pretty empty to me at that time: Futachimaru, Mamepato, and Yooterri. So after fighting trainer after trainer, I decided to wander into the grass and try to see if I could encounter something new……only no Pokemon showed up when I did. I wasn’t using any repels, so what was happening? Running around frantically in circles, I finally realized that I had the “No Wild Pokemon Encounter” AR code turned on, as well as a billion other codes. Oops! The first Pokemon I encountered was a Mamepato—already had that, so I ran away. As soon as I did,the game returned back to the overworld as usual, only a white text box popped up. The writing was in Japanese, so I ignored it. The translators must have either accidentally made a glitch in the game, or something, I reasoned. The next wild encounter was a Kurumiru, that too I ran from, and another text box popped up. More Japanese writing, and glitchy text. I went on an online translator, copy and pasted the thing into it:

The Pokemon are afraid.

Get out of here!

It’s coming!

*&^$ N-no…NO!!!! What’s happening?!!!! #$%@ ———-

I laughed, was this a joke? Returning to the game, I made my character move one step forward—wild double battle. This time it was two Chillarmy—both shiny! Was this my lucky day or what? In my excitement, I barely paid attention to the fact that Chillarmy’s name was actually written in English: Minccino. Both of them had higher speed than my current Pokemon so they attacked first…

Wild Minccino used Transform!!……wait, I didn’t know that Minccino could use Transform?! I watched in horror as one of them changed into a mass of glitchy blocky text—compiled of bits and bits of sprites and graphics—The head of the male player character, random numbers, bizzare shapes, chunks of what appeared to be water, grass, and indoor tiles. The other changed into an exact duplicate of my character. Their nameplates read: MiSSiNGNO. My Pokemon were both too frightened to attack, and fainted in fear. By now, I was seriously creeped out, so I pressed “Run.”

You dare run from me?

YOU WILL PAY!

“W-why?” I whispered. I tried exiting the emulator. That didn’t work. My computer was literally frozen.

Go on, I dare you. Close it.

My mouse wasn’t working. The music had all stopped, except for a few screechy notes played at random intervals. They sounded garbled and shrieky. In frusturation at this freakish glitch, I pressed the power button of my computer, thinking that it would solve the problem. Wrong.

Last resort—I lobbed a Pokeball at one of them, catching it without evening trying. That ended the battle on the spot, cuing the message “Wild——- fled!” Checking my party, I found that all my previous Pokemon, save for my starter with 1 HP had dissapeared. The other five slots were filled with a black blob all named either “MincciNO or MISSINGO” . They all came with the option “Stats, Items, Switch, Release.” I push release.

“Are you sure you want to release it?” I chose yes, all of them. Then all the sudden, a virus warning came up on my computer, something about an unknown malicious virus detected in my files, and if I wanted to run spyware. The game crashed after that…….

To my great horror, 572 virus viles were found in my computer, all named MISSING?.exe, but the spyware was unable to get rid of them. 572 was the Pokedex number of Mincinno. And the stupid glitch in the ROM had somehow managed to release a bunch of undeletable viruses into my computer.

The whole screen turned blue after that without warning, like a Windows error.

A hideous image of Missingno rendered in the R/B/Y style, but with chunks of Mincinno’s spirite came onto the screen.

“HaHAha….ThANK You foR RelE@sing ME…….g00d BYE” A loud, distorted cry blasted through my speakers.

I’m typing this right now on my friend’s laptop. My own computer had since crashed, deleting all my files, and programs. No matter where I take it, the repair people can never seem to fix it. Never.

I don’t know where it is know, but one thing’s certain. Mincinno might as well very be the new incarnation of Missingno……….Or is it?
