Movies?

Recently, I watched "I Am Number Four", and honestly, I didn't care for it much. From the commercials, it seemed to be more of an action-y, sci-fi film, but upon watching, it really was more of a romance. The whole time I was wondering, "When are you going to stop flirting with the pregnant girl from Glee and actually fight some aliens?"

But, a person who sits at my lunch table thought just the opposite. She thought it was going to be bad, but was pleasantly surprised. It just goes to show how people can look at the same thing, but get completely different ideas.

Anyways, today I watched "Take Me Home Tonight", and I thought it was awesome. I loved Demetri Martin, even though he only had a small role. (I didn't even know he was in it until I watched it.) It had those awesome 80s songs, and overall, thougth it wasn't anything knew, I had a good time. However, it got pretty poor reviews...

Honestly, I can't watch depressing movies. I don't see much merit in watching a movie that doesn't make you feel good. That's why I'd rather watch a shameless comedy or really action-y flick than one that's about the end of the world.

I remembered that when I was younger, I watched a movie called "8 Below" and recall it as one of the worst movie experiences of my life. I watched it because I love dogs, but left and right all the dogs were dying! I decided to look up a review and it said it was "heartwarming". I don't see anything heartwarming about a dog staring at the Northern Lights, falling off a cliff, and then dying when it breaks its back. It got really good reviews, but I was so glad that they had to shut the movie down because the lightbulb blew. It was just way too depressing.

So I guess I really don't understand what makes a movie good or not. It's hard to really get into someone else's mind. Though, if it shows anything, I think that its better to not base what you watch on reviews, because you can end up missing a real gem or watching total crap because someone doesn't see things the same way you do.
